A/N: I’m a Rogue/Bobby shipper. I’m a Rogue/Wolverine shipper. Then how come I end up writing Pyro/Rogue nc17 fic with smut and all? The truth? Because I honestly need medical help to sort out my issues. Mwuahahahahaahaha. Pyro’s just so hot and Rogue so cute. And the other way round.
Disclaimer: Not mine. I wish it was, but lookie lookie, it isn't. Would I be living in this lil flat if I had invented something as superb as these comics (and movies while at it)? I think not.
the Best Kind of Reality

Part 1
She had humiliated him once.
Originally, it had been Bobby’s idea to play basketball without using their powers. Just ordinary people playing basketball. The big, important game was played at noon, every Friday and even the teachers had liked the idea so much that they usually gathered around the court to cheer and applause. Of course, they cheered both teams and every member so it really didn’t feel like competition to them, although in every way, it was exactly how the students saw it.
A competition.
Not by what they defined who had the ‘coolest’ and most ‘unique’ power; they had completely different kind of methods on finding out that one, but with this game they tried to solve who was the most bad-ass player in the building. The toughest. They say, you can take the boy out of the street, but not street out of the boy and well, whoever said that, truly knew how the real world works.
Now, at first it had been boys against boys. Why? For no reason. It was just the kind of unspoken rule that no one dared to break. Without girls messing around, they had been able to really play. Was there anything better than tackling another player when they had no one there to keep an eye on the rules? Rules weren’t needed, not there. They were all attending a fine school in which they had to pay attention to their manners 24/7 not to embarrass themselves but here, on the court, it was a whole new world. The young men turned into little teenagers again and teenagers got their defiance back; the one they were forced to swallow in front of the teachers and other students.
Every once in a while, it felt good to forget. Forget that the world was on your tail, fearing and hating you. It didn’t matter they; humans, didn’t know who specifically was a mutant, it felt bad anyway. To know they’d hate you, if they knew you were one of them. On the court the were no mutants, no humans. Just people. People, ball and the game.
Then the hell froze. He, John – normally known as Pyro, couldn’t remember whose idea it had been to take the girls into the game too, but if he had to guess, he would have guessed Bobby. Rogue, that manipulative little bitch. No doubt it had been her who had told Bobby to whine a little so that the other guys would let some of the older girls play too. Why couldn’t the ladies have their own game?
With girls playing, the game had turned softer. All the sudden there were mister nice guys throwing the ball, minding their language, behaving. What the fuck was up with that? If the girls wanted to play, they should’ve had at least learnt how. Playing in the school’s PE wasn’t same as playing on the street, you know. Obviously, they didn’t.
So, few weeks back Rogue had wanted to take part, too and he had had no other choice but to let her. It wasn’t only his decision to make, because if it had, the damned bitch would have not played. When he had said she wouldn’t get a single point to her team, she had suggested a bet.
"50 dollars says I’m gonna get the winning points."
He had snorted, amused. HA! Never! "Okay, game on, Marie."
… Pyro had not expected, not in a million years, that he could end up being the one paying. Come on, be serious! Rogue, she was a girl! A girl! Girls didn’t know how to tackle and play dirty and so on! Only, this one did. Either it was Bobby that had betrayed his fellow sex or the girl had a past more interesting than Pyro had ever imagined.
After humiliating him, she had turned to Bobby. Oh yeah, gave him a wet-looking French kiss as if she was the hottest girl in the school with her grey stripes and long gloves. Fine. Maybe she was. Maybe. The look on her face as she turned back to Pyro had been so malicious, so proud of herself that… God, he had wanted to wipe it off her face so badly. It was a male thing, of course.
Playing with his lighter, Pyro tilted his head, letting his gaze follow the line of the bushes next to him till he saw the couple sitting on the brown blanket. Rogue and Bobby, who else? The girl was wearing a black tank top and white summer skirt that revealed her knees now that she was sitting on her legs. Like normally, Rogue had put her hair on ponytail which was a shame. Pyro, he just loved the way her hair looked when it beautifully framed her face, landing onto her shoulders and going all the way to her mid-back. She had said she was aiming for waist-length hair, but it would take at least another few years before that was going to happen.
She threw her head back laughing at something Bobby had just said and punched his arm, flirting. Hadn’t they got pass that base already? Jesus Christ, what was Bobby waiting for? She had learnt to control her power better, although at times she still couldn’t handle it. That was why she still wore those gloves… or was it because she knew she looked much more exotic that way? Pyro didn’t know, but he wanted to. A tease. Brushing a grey lock of hair off her face, she stopped laughing and just stared at her boyfriend with such a sugar-filled expression that all Pyro wanted to do, was go grab her and throw her into the pool. It was only a decoration of course, not for swimming, but come on, it wasn’t about that. It was about water. About making a fool out of her. Screw Bobby, screw whatever the great Iceman would have done.
It was what he pictured himself doing while his butt stayed perfectly glued to the back of the wooden bench on which he was sitting, feet on the actual seating. He wondered if she’d still look as amazing with her clothes wet… or would she look even better that way?
Bobby had once been his friend. Still was, in some ways. Yeah, so what? Wasn’t it natural for one to have really weird, twisted thoughts about your pal’s girlfriend? Besides, he didn’t really fancy her. He just wanted to humiliate her. Two different things, completely!
"Hey, John, you seeing wet dreams about my girl there?"
Huh? Only after a confusing second, he realised it was Bobby that had turned to look over his shoulder and asked the question. It was meant to be a joke and Pyro did laugh, but not for the reason Bobby presumably thought he did. If only he knew how close to the truth his question had got.
"Yeah, always", he responded flashing a wide smile and winked. Rogue smiled, but didn’t laugh. Bobby didn’t seem to notice her silent moment, but Pyro sure did. Was she suspecting something, seeing through his act? Good. He couldn’t prevent his smile deepening. What she saw, would probably scare the young, inexperienced girl and she’d never ever dare to step on his toes again.
"As long as you keep your hands to yourself, Johnny", Bobby laughed. There was an invisible threat inside the comment that only a guy could spot. Pyro was smart enough to let his friend know he had indeed noticed it. "Don’t go around touching what’s yours, man, not my style."
"As anyone would believe that one." Pyro tried not to glare. What a moment for the sour-looking girl to open her big mouth and enter the manly conversation. What the hell was that remark about, anyway? So far, he had never done anything like that, but things could very easily change… If it had been any other girl, it would’ve been out of question.
But this one, she deserved whatever was coming to her way.
"What, you telling me I’ve hit on you?" Pyro asked capturing her eyes for a moment. A click of his lighter made her broke the contact blinking and only then, she was able to roll her eyes out of disgust. He didn’t mind though, the eye contact hadn’t had a sign of disgust in it.
"Is there a girl on this earth you haven’t hit on?"
"Yeah, couple." Pyro couldn’t stop the thought crossing his mind; even though Rogue had learnt to hide her strong accent for a reason only mad man knew, it was still there to be heard and he was just glad. It sounded so damn good.
"As if."
"Listen to that, Ice, sounds like your girl is jealous of me", he sneered to the young man, who gave a hesitating look to his mate. She shrugged smiling sardonically. "What’s there to be jealous about, Johnny?"
"Oh come on, you two", Bobby cut in finally, wrapping an arm around Rogue’s covered shoulders and pulled her closer. "Let’s try and behave, alright?"
She lifted her chin up to look at him into the eye and again that disgusting smile was on her lips. When she happily snuggled even closer to him, Pyro felt sick. Jesus, get a room and stop tormenting people! He looked away, but couldn’t keep his eyes away from the girl for long. The gaze returned to its normal target, Rogue. This time she seemed to be unaware of his observing eyes.
"Bobby, yo, dude!" A faint yell reached their ears all the sudden. Looking to his right, over Bobby and Rogue, Pyro saw a younger student standing on the stairs leading into the school. Will, wasn’t it? He was waving at them, at Bobby to be precise.
"What?" Bobby replied pulling away from Rogue, leaving the girl without a shield protecting from Pyro’s intense stare. Better for him. Now she was left with no other choice but to notice his stare. She looked away, probably wondering what the hell had gone into the guy. Pyro had always been an ass towards her – it was the way he was, but he had never acted like this. Without really saying anything, he made her feel like she had done something wrong when the truth was, she hadn’t. Then why did the look in his eyes make her feel dirty somehow? Stained?
"A phone call, it’s your mom calling. Said it’s important", the boy shouted back over the lawn, gesturing Bobby to come closer. He glanced Rogue frowning. "I better go take that one." With that said, he got up.
Taking grass between her fingers, she looked up and pulled it from the ground with its roots and everything. "Yeah, sure, I should go finish my essay anyway. I’ll probably go into the library if you miss me."
"Alright." He bent down to place the final kiss on her forehead, before he jogged to the boy who still waiting for him.
The minute Bobby disappeared into the main building, she stood up grabbing the blanket at the same time.
"I’ll walk you."
Rogue couldn’t believe it. Had Pyro just sounded almost normal and said he’d walk her?
"You don’t have to", she said casting a glance over her shoulder, not knowing what else to say. No, please, don’t? She had no essay to finish, not really, it had been an excuse with what to escape the situation. Then, she had always been a horrible liar and most likely Pyro had smelled the lie.
"I’m going to the same direction myself so it’s not a big deal." He jumped down to the ground and quickly walked to her, not giving her a chance to flee.
She folded the blanket and picked up her school bag before turning to Pyro. "Fine then."
In silence, he waited for her to move first and after she had inhaled, she started walking towards the building next to the main building. Few months back, professor Xavier had decided they needed another library, the kind where they had all the books one could imagine and where the kids could do their homework rather than spend time with each other. There was another library inside the actual school for that, near the dorms. Pyro couldn’t have cared less, but the other students seemed to be happy about the new wing.
When they reached the doors of the library, she climbed the stairs up assuming he would continue his way into the other building but the minute she turned around to say goodbye, she noticed he was right on her heels.
"You coming to the library, too?"
Why did she sound so horrified? The smile met his lips almost accidentally. "Yeah, why not?" He replied, "not like I have anything better to do."
She didn’t say anything, couldn’t say anything. So instead, she turned around, pulled the door open and stepped over the threshold not bothering to hold the door for him. Not that surprising.
Not looking back, she walked through the big hall and went straight to the second floor. Pyro followed her, enjoying of the cat-mouse game with every fibre of his being. How could it be so intoxicating; following a girl, watching her bottom swing from one side to another, smelling her perfume and knowing that he was the reason she was walking so fast, with so tense steps? She didn’t want to let it show, but couldn’t manage to hide it.
She reached her usual table, exhausted and out of breath. He wasn’t sure if she knew he was still there… well, an easy way to correct the error. "You really should breathe while walking, Rogue."
The girl wasn’t startled by the comment, which told him she had probably sensed him all along. Probably even heard too if she wasn’t too nervous.
"I’ll keep that in mind." Still avoiding his eyes, she threw her bag onto the table, sat down and closed her eyes. Walking past her, Pyro laid his hands down onto the handrail separating the second floor from nothing. He looked down, but there was no one in the main hall below them. Usually the library was full, but during a hot summer day and with it being Saturday on top of all, students usually came nowhere near the library. It wasn’t that hot in there, but this place was for studying and that was something you did not do during a day like this.
Expect if you were Rogue, of course.
Pyro turned around, leaning against the handrail and crossed his arms examining the girl in front of him. She was only few feet away, back towards his direction.
He took a couple of steps closer and it was all he needed to reach her chair. He could see her body tense and the fact amused him. With one single move, he stole the ribbon holding the brown locks and just watched how they fell down onto her shoulders.
"Stop that, John", she snorted, pulling away from him. "Pyro", he corrected automatically. Why was it that people kept insisting on calling him John or Johnny or something as stupid as that, when it was more than obvious his real name was nothing alike that. Pyro, he was Pyro all the way. The lighter made another click. With each click, the girl jumped slightly.
He threw the stolen ribbon onto the table in front of her, but she didn’t reach for it. He had half-expected her to, but wasn’t completely surprised by her cold, indifferent attitude either. Well, at least she tried to be indifferent and she earned the points with a good try.
"What the hell is the matter with you, John?" She spat out, refusing to use the name he wanted to be called with. So, they had to call her Rogue, but when someone else wanted the same treatment, she looked it to be her right to deny it? No way. Pyro shook his head, amused.
"I’m just having fun", he replied removing the blouse from her shoulders and lifting his hand to meet the soft skin of her back, "Just having fun with our little mutant girl." The blouse fell on the floor.
If she had really wanted to, she could have had used her power on him and he knew that. Then why didn’t she? She could have released her gift and suck the energy out of him without really killing him. It would’ve been painful, but not lethal. And yet, she didn’t. If that wasn’t a hint, then he didn’t know what was.
His fingers travelled up and down her back, drawing circles, triangles, squares and writing letters. M. I. N. E. M. I. N. E. M… Leaning forward, he brought his cheek to meet the side of her neck. Rogue didn’t move, didn’t even breathe.
"Bobby’s coming here soon, you know?" She breathed in when she no longer could hold it. Pyro couldn’t see if her eyes were still closed, but her voice had got low and husky. "You worried he’ll find you doing something bad?"
She swallowed so loudly that Pyro was sure it echoed around the empty library. The blood in her veins was pumping, he could almost hear it. But her blood wasn’t the only thing that boiled, his inner guts were burning. He wanted something, needed something that he knew he couldn’t have right there and then. Too risky. With both hands on her shoulders, he pulled back only to notice how her cheeks had got red. Underneath his hands, he felt her tremble.
"Forget it, John." Somehow she had managed to gather her strength for she sounded like she meant it. Still, he doubted it. "There’s no way in hell I’ll do anything with you, Johnny. You’re living in a fantasy world, dream reality."
She didn’t say it out loud to be exact, but he knew she was begging for him to stop. Why? Was she afraid she couldn’t put an end to it if he continued? Funny. He hadn’t even done anything yet. Just touched her. It was a promising start, no questions about that one. "So?" He threw back, "It’s the best kind of reality there is."
"Rogue, you here?" Bobby’s questioning voice made Pyro take a step backwards. Turning around, over the handrail he saw Bobby walking towards the stairs leading onto second floor.
"Here, man", he yelled, waving his arm. Bobby noticed him, waved back and ran the stairs up with speed. During that time, Rogue had picked up her blouse and put it on the chair next to her. Her hair was in a ponytail again, but it looked messier than a moment ago. Glancing at the girl trying to steady her breathing, Pyro noticed that the red on her cheeks was already fading. Damn, he should’ve bitten her. Bobby didn’t seem to pay attention to any of those facts. Either he was stupid or just blind to the signs. Big mistake.
He came to the two and sat down next to Rogue leaning against the back of the chair with his elbows. "I assume the essay won’t be done within the next 15 minutes?"
Rogue shook her head, unable to speak. "Okay, so what do you say, Johnny? Should we go take a match? I already told the guys we’re up for a game, but if you ain’t, then it’s fine."
"Sounds good to me, buddy ", Pyro replied immediately. A little game sounded more than perfect, actually. Bobby was the first one to move; he got up on his feet again looking down to Rogue. "You ok with it?"
Rogue only nodded trying to smile. This time Bobby did notice that something was off, but didn’t say anything. There was a weird expression on his face, but Pyro assumed he just didn’t want to break down Rogue’s problem in front of some other guy. Better that way, Pyro really wasn’t up for hearing Rogue’s confessions anyway.
"Okay, see you later, sweets."
Only after Bobby had gone to the stairs already, Pyro started walking. Before he passed Rogue, he quickly leaned closer to her ear whispering; "the game ain’t played yet, Rogue. We’ll see who wins. You or me."
"I’m telling Bobby", she spat out, angry. Was she angry to him… or to herself? Tensed jaw gave away the fact she was doing all she could to hold back the tears. "And when he asks you why you didn’t use your power to keep me away, what you gonna say?" Without waiting for her reply, he started walking again but only this time backwards. Waving, he yelled to her; "See you later, Rogue. Had fun."
This game, he was so winning.
