Chapter 9: Epilogue
************************************************************************
Scott Summers and Jean Grey were married the next day in the biggest wedding in X-men history. Before friends, family, allies, and even enemies the two childhood friends turned lovers took the ultimate step in their relationship. They grew up fighting alongside one another in a world that hated and feared them. In that time they had faced uncertainty, heartache, fear, and even death itself. But in the end their love proved stronger than any force the heavens could throw at them and in a tearful ceremony they sealed their bond forever.
Everybody who attended was touched deeply by the ceremony. Some, however, were more affected than others. Logan was in the front row with Ororo, cheering Scott and Jean on every step of the way. He even got himself a tux and cleaned himself up for the occasion. It made Jean very happy because it showed he was moving on. Logan even humbled himself before Scott and shook his hand with the simple condition that he took care of Jean. And regardless of the tension between them, Scott gave him his word.
It was also not lost between them that Logan and Ororo stayed close the whole time. Jubilee and Gambit had an especially fun time poking fun at what they called ‘the latest romance’ even though it earned them plenty of annoyed looks from Logan. But with Ororo by his side he could care less. She even got him to share a romantic dance during the reception. Logan still complained at times, but he was easily silenced by kisses. It was a promising beginning to something much grander.
Logan and Ororo weren’t the only couple. Betsy and Warren also stayed close during the wedding. Many were intrigued, but not surprised by this sudden turn. They had avoided their feelings for too long and after last night they were through wasting time. The wedding gave them a nice outlet to embrace their new love. When Scott and Jean were at the altar, they held hands tightly almost as if they were seeing a glimpse of their own future. They also took time to give Scott and Jean their thanks for helping them to realize their feelings. Betsy and Warren owed them a lot and wished each other the best as they moved ahead with their newfound new relationship.
Emma Frost also attended, spending most of her time hanging around Hank and Xavier. Some were suspicious of her presence, but with reassurance by Scott, Jean, and the Professor such fears quickly faded into the festivities. While Emma didn’t show it, she had a good time sharing this moment with the X-men. Scott and Jean made it their mission to thank her again for how she helped them earlier and promised they’d put her lessons to good use during the honeymoon. After being an enemy for so long she was coming to see herself as a part of the team.
The festivities continued with great fanfare. Jubilee used her powers to put on a miniature firework show to commemorate this wondrous event. The throwing of the bouquet was equally celebrated, which ended up having Rogue and Remy sharing a special dance together even though some complained they cheated for the opportunity. But that didn’t matter to them. Today was about sharing special moments with loved ones.
And among all the happy faces who watched Scott and Jean get married, none was more proud that Professor Charles Xavier. He felt so accomplished watching two of his dearest students get married. Scott and Jean always held a special place in his heart and like many others this was an emotional time for him. But one of the most memorable moments for him was when he and Jean shared a dance. He may have been bound to a wheelchair, but with help from Jean’s telekinesis he rose for this special moment. And when it was over the Professor gave both his students proud hugs and gave them his gift, an all expense paid honeymoon to the Caribbean.
As the day came to an end Scott and Jean were full of happiness. In the past week they had confronted old feelings and laid them to rest once and for all. Now on this fateful day they were ready to move forward. Their bond was strong and their bond was true. Together, they would go on to live happily, free of regrets. And because of them, others could move on as well. True love came through and new bonds were formed. It was a day of new beginnings. And it all culminated in Scott and Jean’s vows, which would forever echo in their hearts.
“There were times I was lost, and you found me. There days which were heavy, and you lightened my heart. Through it all since the day we met, there was you for me and me for you. That hasn’t changed. That will never change. Times have been good, and times have been bad. And still, our love had endured and triumphed. I take Scott Summers to be my lawfully wedded husband. I take Jean Grey to be my lawfully wedded wife. Through pain and passion, through sorrow and hope, through death and through life. Whatever tomorrow brings, we will face it together.”
THE END
