Chapter 8
Just before 7am Shelia comes in the room and announces she will be working most of the day. She transcribes records and is able to work from home using her laptop. “I’ll be busy until about 4.” Loki tries to hide his disappointment that he won't get to spend the day with her, but she misinterprets his expression.
"You’re planning on leaving today aren’t you?" she asks assuming that is his intention.
"I wasn't planning.... I mean.... If that's what you want.... I can go," he stammers feeling confused about why he has the urge to ask to stay longer. Their agreement was for him to stay a couple of days and get some money. He has some cash now and there is no reason to continue imposing on her, except that he wants to stay.
To his great relief she says, "You don't have to go. I kinda like having someone around. We'll probably need to figure out better sleeping arrangements at some point, but the couch is yours as long as you want it."
"Thank you Shelia. I really appreciate everything you have done for me. I am truly unworthy of your kindness."
"I'll work out here. That way if you want to sleep a little more you can use my bed," she says as she gathers her laptop and work files, trying to hide the blush creeping across her cheeks.
As soon as she is settled in the living room, he heads directly to the bedroom and climbs under her blanket inhaling her scent. What is wrong with me? He thinks to himself. Is this what Thor experienced when he first met Jane? Laying in her bed he gazes around the room. There is very little to see. Like the rest of the house this room is sparse. Only the closet is any different. Holding untold secrets about her. Getting back up, he enters the closet and again stares in wonder at the collection of books. Since he has the time, he looks over each title, pulling several out to look them over and thumb through the pages. He pictures her curled up on the couch holding one in her hands, turning page after page as she devours the words. Returning the books to their homes he moves on to a dresser. He opens the top drawer and is slightly embarrassed when he discovers it contains her under garments. Embarrassment gives way to curiosity and then to arousal as he imagines her wearing the small black lace item laying on top.
Quickly he pushes the drawer shut and moves back to the bookcases. On the top shelf of the rightmost one he spies a black box with handles. Pulling it down he opens it up to find several newspaper articles, a stack of important looking papers and a ring. Knowing he has crossed a line and invaded her personal space he quickly closes the box and puts it back on the shelf. Hearing a huff behind him, he turns and sees King looking at him.
"Hey boy, you wanna go outside?" The dog starts to wag his tail in anticipation and heads to the back door of the house. Loki follows him out of the closet, changes his clothes and takes King out to explore the property, making sure not to disturb Shelia on the way out. He has to admit that he really likes the animal. He is a good companion and since he doesn't like Roger that's even better.

One week later
"Sir, you have a guest arriving on the upper platform."
"Thank you Jarvis. Care to identify them so I know how to dress?" Tony Stark asks the AI unit.
"It would appear to be Thor of Asgard."
"So formal dress then," the play boy jokes.
"Wonder what the golden boy wants?" Tony asks himself as he steps away from his workstation and heads to the elevator. When he arrives at the upper platform he finds Thor standing at the edge looking down at the spectacular view from his beach house.
"Tony my friend!" Thor bellows upon seeing him exit the elevator.
"Here on a social call?" Tony asks.
"No, I used the bifrost as usual," Thor answers, confused by the unfamiliar term.
"No, it's an expression... Never mind. Is there something I can help you with?"
"Yes my friend. Can we talk indoors?" Thor requests.
"Of course," Tony says suddenly serious and leads Thor down to his workshop.
"As you know, my brother Loki was to be sentenced for his crimes."
"Yes I'm aware," the smaller man responds wryly.
"His punishment was handed down, but for his protection it is being kept secret. However, I think it would be good for you to know."
"Ok," Tony replies warily.
"Loki has been turned human and banished to earth," Thor explains succinctly to his friend.
"Loki? Human? As in no magic?"
"Correct. He has been on Earth for just over a week."
"So why are you telling me now?" Tony wonders aloud.
"When he arrived he was almost killed immediately. Father helped him, but I fear he may yet find himself in more trouble."
"Almost killed? About time," Tony grumbles harshly as he starts to work on a small device.
"Tony, no matter his crimes, he is still my brother. And now that we know he was being unduly influenced he is being given the opportunity to redeem himself."
"So what do you need me to do?"
"I would ask that you keep watch on him," the Norse god requests.
"So you want me to babysit a god stripped of his power?"
"I ask that you keep watch and assist if needed. Please Tony. This is important to me," the Asgardian prince pleads.
Sighing Tony relents, "Fine, against my better judgment, because of the damage he caused to my house…. Do you know how much these windows cost to replace?”
“Tony!” Thor interrupts him, grinning in spite of himself.
“Ok, can you tell me where he arrived? I can try to track him from there. Jarvis, pull up a map for me,” the philanthropist says getting down to business.
"Yes sir," the AI complies immediately.
When the map appears Thor begins to describe where Loki was dropped as Tony manipulates the projection to narrow down the area. A few minutes later Tony has a general location.
"Jarvis, I want 24 hour monitoring of all emergency lines within a 50 mile radius of this area. Report anything that could be Loki. Monitor for any unusual thermo signatures or energy fluctuations as well."
Turning to Thor he adds, "It's not too far away. We could go on a little recon mission if you want. Knowing his exact location would make monitoring easier. "
"I don't want to risk drawing attention to the area by being seen," Thor answers.
"Well then, you have nothing to worry about. I am nothing if not subtle," Tony answers deadpan.
