Chapter 5: Afterglow
Kitty reddened. What if he�d come in just a few minutes ago? She smoothed her bedspread nervously, afraid he�d somehow be able to tell what she had been up to. �Um� Hi, Kurt.�
He smiled shyly. �Are you feeling all right, Katzchen? I vas a little vorried about you vhen you ran out.�
She patted the bed for him to join her. �I�m okay� I�m feeling a lot better now, actually. It feels really good, knowing everyone in the mansion is on my side.�
Kurt cautiously slipped his arm around her, encouraged when she smiled at him and relaxed against him instead of pulling way. �Of course ve�re on your side. Ve�re you�re friends.� Even though I vant to be so much more to you.
Kitty rested her head on his shoulder. I think maybe I want more� but I don�t know how to tell you, she thought. Aloud, she said, �I know. But Lance had almost convinced me otherwise.�
His eyes widened. �Vhat? He vanted you to think ve didn�t like you because of him or something?�
She nodded. �He pretty much said if you didn�t like him, you couldn�t like me while I was with him.�
Kurt scowled. �Zat lying, manipulative��
Kitty squeezed his hand. �Don�t worry about it, it�s all over now. He�s already driven me to curse in front of my friends today, you don�t need to call him names. That�d be stooping to his level.� There was a moment of awkward silence.
He cleared his throat nervously. �So, um� vhat do you vant to do now?� He silently cursed himself for not thinking any farther than coming to talk to her.
�I�m actually kinda tired for some reason. I was about to take a nap. If you don�t have something else you need to do, it�d be nice to, um� cuddle.� She blushed.
Kurt turned purple as he blushed also. �Ja, I� I vould like zat.� They lay back on her bed together, her head on his shoulder and their arms around each other. Soon her breathing slowed and he thought she had fallen asleep.
Kitty was almost startled out of her doze when she felt his hand gently stroking her hair. But she forced herself to stay still, wondering where this was going.
Her hair is so soft, he thought. He couldn�t help but touch it. For once it hung loose in mostly dry waves around her face. It made her look even prettier than her signature ponytail did, and he wondered why she never wore it down.
She felt something lightly touch her forehead. Did he� just kiss me? It was probably just a platonic thing. He doesn�t feel that way about me� does he?
I vish I could tell you how I feel, Katzchen, Kurt thought miserably. I love you, but I know you could never love a demon like me.
Kitty decided to experiment, to see how far he would go if he thought she was asleep. Maybe he�d reveal more than he was willing to show to her face. She tilted her head up towards him slightly.
Her soft pink lips beckoned him. He licked his own nervously. She still appeared to be asleep. The romantic swashbuckler inside took over and he gave in to his desire to kiss his sleeping beauty.
Oh my God, he�s really kissing me� maybe he does like me. She kissed him back carefully, still faking sleep. She felt him cup the back of her head with his hand. The kiss gradually deepened. Kitty forgot she was supposed to be asleep and her tongue slipped into his mouth.
Kurt�s eyes flew open. She�s� she�s actually kissing me� mein Gott� vhat should I do? Reluctantly, he broke the kiss, pulling back. He didn�t want to take advantage of her so soon after her breakup with Lance.
Her blue eyes looked into his gold ones. She looked surprised but pleased. She�s not disgusted zat I kissed her? �Katzchen? I�m so sorry� I shouldn�t have done zat.�
She licked her lips. �Um, Kurt� I really liked that� you�re a good kisser. Were you, um� just trying to make me feel better or do you really� l-like me that way?�
He bit his lip. �I� I shouldn�t have done zat, no matter vhat I feel. I don�t vant to take advantage of you, or force myself on you. I really didn�t mean to�� He trailed off when Kitty�s finger touched his mouth to silence him.
She took a deep breath. �Just tell me the truth. You�ve liked me all along, haven�t you? And I�ve been too blind to realize it. But I� dreamed about you last night� and it made me see you a whole different way. I�m not sure what to do about it. But we�re best friends, and whatever else happens, we�re staying that way. So we need to be honest with each other.�
Her hand lowered, and Kurt blurted out, �Ich liebe dich, Katzchen� I have loved you since ze first time I saw you. I thought you vould never vant a blue, ugly demon, so I never told you.�
She smiled. �I know I was scared of you at first, but I�m not anymore. And you�re not ugly, you�re cute and fuzzy.� He pouted playfully at that, and she amended herself. �But now I can see you�re� sexy� too. I think� I�m falling in love with you.�
He stared at her for a moment. Did I just hear� �You� you are? Am I dreaming? If I am, I never vant to vake up.� He winced when she grinned and pinched his arm. �All right, all right, I�m not dreaming� Katzchen, I can hardly believe zis. I have vanted it for so long� but I don�t vant to catch you on ze rebound. And, I have to ask� how did you figure out zat I had liked you all along?�
Kitty kissed him softly. �Woman�s intuition,� she answered with a wink. �And we can wait. A week or two, at least. I don�t know if I can stand any longer than that to be with you.�
Kurt grinned, struggling to hold back tears of joy.
