--- Brain storming round… I mean day 2 ( *Cough Cough*) ---
Rogue sat across the table from Remy with a little smile on her face. She liked the fact that her mutation didn’t bother him. How where they going to work around it though? He seemed pretty sure that he could figure out something. The idea of being able to touch almost made a shiver of anticipation run through her. The smile dropped when Rogue glanced over at Jean and caught the weird look the red head was sending to her. Was miss perfect reading her thoughts again? Rogue glared at the taller girl.
Kitty and Lance sat next to each other, holding hands under the table looking for the all world like the cats that’d eaten the canary. Jen silently congratulated herself. It was so nice to know that she’d helped two little love birds get together. She glanced at Avalon and sighed. The Half Japanese girl had grabbed her and said the she needed to go book shopping… at 7am. Jen didn’t even know book stores were open at 7am. But most of the books in the library had been bagged and put in the back of the house van, so she figured it wouldn’t hurt to help Avie pick out new books. She was wrong. The female speedster ran, ran all over the store. They had traded every book with them for a new one. Avalon kept ranting that this book would be great to read and that book looked really interesting and she hadn’t ever read it before so she’d be reading it first and…blah blah blah. Jen ended up tuning her out and taking the keys. Something was bothering Avalon and she was in no condition to be driving. Jen looked at her friend with a great deal of worry. Avalon… was attracted to someone… but she didn’t want to be. Who was it? Jen closed her eyes and “scanned” the group. Who ever it was had arrived recently. She smiled as her power touched Louis. The two of them had been together for about five years now. They were high school sweethearts. She got a small zap as her power ran over Lehnsherr’s son. What was his name? It started with a P, she remembered that. Peter? No, that wasn’t it. Pedro, Pepper, Pei-something. It would come to her. The professor’s voice hushed though her mind. “*The name I believe your grasping for is ‘Pietro’. I assume your trying to find out the cause for Avalon’s unrest?*” Jen did the best she could to answer in the affirmative and keep her face blank. “*I have a feeling something happened between them.*” Jen tried to give him a mental ‘duh’. The professor’s laugh curled through her mind before he spoke again, “* Pietro is very strong willed and I believe he is interested in Avalon but has gone about the wrong way in approach her. I can see she hasn’t changed much from the time she spent with the brotherhood. Avalon thinks she doesn’t need anyone or anything and when someone comes along and changes her stasis, she gets upset.*” ‘Even if the person in question get her hot and bothered.’ Jen thought before she remembered someone was listening in. She gave him an apologetic look. “*its alright, I have lived longer then you.*” Jen smiled to herself. Professor Xavier had been like a father to her when she was at the institute.
“Jen…” Faith pulled the girl out of her reverie and silent conversation. “I was just asking if you had any ideas on how to curb this problem.”
“Oh… no. Aside from the anti-mutant shit we have vampires to worry about. Their numbers are growing faster then we can keep them in their graves and we are sitting here just thinking about anti-mutant bigots? Why don’t we talk about how to stop the vampires?”
“We’re not all bad.” Louis looked at her.
“You’re not a vampire. Besides you hunt with us. You have no right to complain.”
“Why are you so mad at vampire?” The day walker asked.
“We’ve all been chewed on more than once! Every day we all risk our lives to destroy the walking dead not knowing if we’ll come back alive and still their numbers grow. I have every right to be pissed off.”
“Jen, its okay we fight because we choose to… and because we have to. If you want to stop you can.” Avalon gave her friend a smile, “You can even stay in the house if you chicken out on us.”
“I realize that you are concerned about the night walker problem. Believe me, I know. I worry that the girls…” Reilly, faltered and regained his composure, “That they won’t be safe. But the other day, Sasha got hit in the head with a rock by some kid because she’s different. I don’t want her or Emma growing up in a world where that is okay.”
“We won’t let anything happen to the girls.” Marley smiled at the telekinetic.
“Anyway. Back to the discussion at hand,” Mystique interrupted. “I think we should just let them die out. We are the future, after all. The next step in human evolution. The closed and weak-minded will vanish into a cloud of there own ignorance.”
“It’s not that simple, Raven.” The professor said, “Although, yes, we are the next link in the evolutionary chain, the rest of the world is still hesitant to accept that. We need a way to convince them that we are here to stay.”
“Can’t you just hack the minds of the people in power? Make them pass laws or something?” Avalon asked. Really, she’d been feeling grumpy anyway, after a night of frustrating dreams and not being able to get back to sleep when she woke up at five. It pissed her off that Pietro had affected her like that. Avalon grumbled. ‘Making me dream those kinds of dreams.’ To keep her mind off him, Avalon had cleaned the entire house even going into the rooms to get the trash. She realized this was counter productive when she got to his room. She had paused in shock for a moment. The early morning sun made his skin glow and his hair shined like real silver. Lying among the white sheets, he looked like an angel. Avalon had scoffed at the association. ‘Some angel.’ When he finally stirred in his sleep, Avalon realized that she’d been staring. Grabbing the trash, she had run from the room.
“It’s not that simple. I could, but that would be unethical. They have to come to the conclusion on their own.”
“I know,” Rogue said dryly, “Lets write our congressmen. That’ll clear this up.” Avalon gave a small smiled. Some else was just as grumpy as her.
The discussion carried on for several more hours with little progress. Finally the professor suggested they all think about solutions and reconvene the next day.
Lance, who’d heard from Pietro that Avalon could produce flowers on her whip, approached the ex-Brotherhood member. “Avalon?” He asked almost shyly, “could I speak to you privately?” She nodded and head out of the room with him. Pietro watched them with the ping of some emotion. Lance walked into the library with Avalon in tow.
“What?” She asked simply.
“Pietro said you can create flowers from nowhere, is that true?”
Avalon shrugged, “More or less. Why?”
“Could you make me a dozen red roses?” He knotted his fingers together.
She smiled. This was so cute. The elementalist leaned down and placed her hand on the red carpet. Her eyes swam green as she tapped the part or her magick that controlled the earth and plants. She felt through the carpet, through the foundation of the house and in to the soil underneath. The root system pulsed under her “touch” and she sifted through them, finding the right set. Before Lance’s eyes a rose bush sprang from the dark rug. Dozens of rose buds grew outward and flowered in an array of velvety red blossoms.
“Take what you need.” Avalon said casually. Lance pondered over flourish, choosing what he felt would be best for Kitty. As soon as he’d chosen the right flowers and Avalon cut them so the plant wouldn’t be too upset, the elementalist let the plant fall back into the ground as she thanked both it and the earth. Lance turned with a smile and left the room the take the flowers to Kitty’s room.
