A/N Hi everyone. Here is the next chapter in my story. Hopefully, I will be able to introduce the OC's to the others in the next chapter and get to the plot's first conflict.
I really don't know how I feel about the dialogue in the second part. I was kind of sleepy. lol
But anyway enjoy for now! :3
The woman leaned back into the comfortable cushions of the couch, holding a mug full green tea in her hands. She took a breath out, feeling more than content in this moment. It had definitely been one of the more relaxing days for her. She had been able to work from home and finished early, as usual. Because of that luck, she had been sitting in front of the T.V. with a blanket draped over her lap and a hot drink in hand for the last hour and a half. And she had to admit, she could really get used to this fast. The woman let out a small laugh, wondering again if she really could somehow persuade her new supervisor to let her work from home all the time. She leaned forward, placing her drink on the table and stretched, letting out a loud yawn. She leaned back again and placed her feet on the hard wooden surface, something that she had always scolded her son for whenever he did it. The woman leaned back again, pushing herself further into the couch and craning her neck to look at the clock on the wall. It was 1:40, meaning that because of her overprotective nature, she’d have to pick up Damon from school in an hour or so. She furrowed her brow in worry thinking about her son. It had been a week since the...incident at that pastry shop and even now she still didn’t know what to make of it. The only thing she could think to do was scold him on the car ride home and when they were at home eating dinner that night. The woman didn’t really know what else to do other than that. Yes, he had openly insulted two people he had never met but that really didn’t call for more severe punishment. Even not letting him eat those buns was too much. Not that it would really have mattered. Damon wasn’t budging on his stance and stubbornly refused to take back what he said, continuously pointing out that he wasn’t lying about what he said about the couple.
She had been but embarrassed when it had happened, yes, but at the same time she was concerned...she still was. The woman had never seen her son act that way towards...well...anyone. Sure, he was blunt, like all kids his age were but it was more about the way he said it. The way he looked at them like he wanted to bite into them. It almost scared her. After seeing those two, Damon had been eager to get home, practically tugging her to the car while she was still scolding him. He had been quiet for most of the car ride home, too and had been more than his usual sulky self when she said no to him or punished him. It was more like brooding. At the time, the woman had comforted herself by saying that it was nothing more than a phase but did it have to happen right after their encounter with the young couple? It was like seeing them had flipped a switch in him. She had tried talking to him about the whole thing while she drove home but he was so quiet on the way there. His amber colored eyes seemed to have intensified in color and never left the window. It was almost like he was searching for something to...make sure it didn’t come too close to him. By the time they had gotten home that night, the boy was had fallen silent. The woman had asked her child one final time why he had acted that way towards the two and what he said still echoed in her mind.
“Mom...those people were dangerous”. Even when he was looking away from her, she could still see the look of almost fearful anger in them. She rubbed a hand over her mouth in deep thought, wondering what had happened at that moment. However, she guessed she should breathe a sigh of relief since that same switch which was turned on is now off because Damon seemed back to normal the next day. It was for this reason the woman had told herself to forget about it but there was still something that was nagging at her. Dangerous, he said...she didn’t think that her son had ever talked like that before. The woman breathed out and pushed hair out of her face, while at the same time doing the same to her thoughts. There wasn’t anything to worry about. Damon saying something rude to two people wasn’t anything that should weigh too heavily on her mind. She had scolded him and he had gone back to his usual rebellious, sarcastic, but still sweet (at least to her) self. The woman leaned to the side, laying down and then swung her feet onto the cushion. An empty apartment and no work meant that she was about due for an afternoon nap. She pulled out her phone and set the alarm to pick up Damon even when she knew her mother instincts would always wake her up for it. She was still worried about her son and the way he had acted but it couldn’t be anything more than a...one time thing. But even so...she still had to wonder where that anger had come from.
“I’m telling you the kid looked like he wanted to sink his teeth into the both of us”, Scott said, sitting in the lounge area. He shook his head and took another gulp of his soda, letting out a laugh.
“Sounds like you’re lucky to not have any bite marks then”, Kitty replied.
“Yeah...I’m pretty sure I could have taken him”, Scott said, grinning.
“You sure have a way with kids there, Scott”. Spike said, swinging in one of the chairs. Kitty giggled.
“So what, you just met some kid out of nowhere and he wanted to knock the living daylight out of you?”, Spike asked, holding a hand over his widening smile. For whatever reason, Spike especially found what had happened to him and Jean to be absolutely hilarious.
“Geez, I know kids are hard to deal with but who would have thought one could act like that? Exactly why I wouldn’t want any”, Rogue said, brushing hair out of her face.
“Well...he did say one thing before he practically eyed us to death”, the dark brunette said.
“What’d he say?”, Kitty asked.
Scott made a face and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Uh...he...kind of said...we both stunk?” , Scott said.
Spike held his stomach, laughing almost hysterically. He was in good company though. Kitty had both hands clasped over her mouth and had turned away from him while holding in her own.
“Well, maybe you guys just needed to bathe”, Kurt said in his thick accent before laughing himself.
“Gotta hand it to the kid though. That was pretty savage”, Rogue said, smiling.
Scott rolled his eyes.
“Haha. Very funny”, he said. The young man winced slightly actually feeling his cheeks begin to slightly burn. He couldn’t help it. He had been insulted in public in front of his girlfriend.
“Where was his mom anyway?”, Kitty said, still laughing.
“She was right next to him”, Scott said, rubbing his forehead.
Spike and Kurt laughed louder again. Scott felt himself becoming irritated couldn’t resist the urge this time. He picked up a nearby cushion and threw it at them, hitting Kurt right in the head. He only said ouch for a second and quickly regained his footing before they both started laughing again.
“Well, at least I think it was his mom”, Scott said, wanting to shut them up.
“Based on the way you said he acted, it sounds like it had to his mom. Who else could stand that kind of attitude?”, Kitty said.
“Aunt, maybe his niece...I dunno…to tell you the truth...the lady...or that woman looked pretty young”, Scott said, absently fidgeting with his shades. Though it had taken a lot of energy for it not to show on his face, the young man had to admit that at the time he couldn’t help being struck by how beautiful the woman was. Although Jean would always be the only one for him. Still...he had to admit...the way the woman carried herself...welcoming and effortlessly alluring...her long blond hair flowing down her back and shoulders. And though he couldn’t see her eyes through her brown-tinted shades, he could make out the soft features that made him think that there was no way for the kid to be hers. He brought a hand to his chin, almost daydreaming. He could already imagine Jean turning into a knockout when she reached that age, making him feel even luckier that she was had chosen him to love. Scott, pursed his lips slightly, feeling his cheeks redden. This time he was not able to hide it and he could immediately feel the others’ eyes on him.
“Hey, check it out. Scott’s blushing!”, Bobby said, smiling.
“Now, I wonder why that would be”, Kitty chimed in.
“Thinking about that lady in the store, are we?”, Spike teased, casting him a smug look.
“W-what? No!”, Scott blurted out, his face turning redder.
“Dude, you sound sooo guilty right now”, Spike said.
“I’m not. Really”, Scott said.
“Oh, cut it out, Spike. It’s not like it’s a crime to look at someone else when you’re already in a relationship”, Bobby said,
“Um excuse me? It kind of is, you jerk”, Kitty said, crossing her arms.
“I wasn’t looking at anything”, Scott pressed. He silently admitted that he was lying just a bit. He grit his teeth, trying to compose himself but only ended up make his underarms sweat more. The young man felt his face turn red anew and could feel his heart beat faster in anxiousness.
“She was a troll then”, Spike said springing to his left side and offering a smile.
“No. I-”, Scott began, scratching his head.
“So she was hot”, Bobby said moving in close to his other side. Scott felt his jaw tense in frustration. They had both invaded his personal space at this point. He wanted to say something but found himself unable to. It really felt like no matter what came out of his mouth it would be something wrong. The young man bit his lip and huffed at himself. He should have just agreed that she was a troll.
“Well, which is it?”, Bobby asked, leaning next to him.
“Can only be one, man”, Spike said, close to his other side. Scott could feel both his annoyance and embarrassment growing. He’d had his fill of teasing for the day.
“Oh knock it off”, the brunette said, elbowing both boys in the ribs at the same time. They weren’t laughing this time, at least.
“Jeez, we were just asking”, Bobby said, rubbing his gut and pouting.
“Some people”, Spike said, grimacing.
“Anyway…”, Scott continued.
“Jean wanted to talk to the professor about the kid because she thinks that there could be something more to him”, Scott said, changing the subject.
“Like what?”, Kurt asked.
“She couldn’t feel any thought wave patterns coming from the kid...said he feels different.”, Scott said.
“She thinks he might be a mutant”, Kitty said, surprised.
Scott nodded.
“I didn’t hear anything about that”, Bobby said.
“It’s news to me, too”, Rogue added
“Been a while since anyone new showed up”, he added with a shrug.
“Is it X-23? That’s what Cerero picked up on a couple weeks ago, right?”, Kurt asked.
“Uh...it was. And we were kind of trying to keep that a secret. Thanks, Kurt”, Scott said, shooting him a look.
Rogue rolled her eyes.
“What’s the big deal? It’s not like we all don’t know who she is anyway”, she said.
“Yeah but it’s...well Logan’s already kind of claimed her as his own business to...take care of so...it might be a good idea if he doesn’t hear us all talking about it”, Scott said.
“Makes sense. I guess they are technically related”, Spike said.
“Yeah, I guess”, Rogue said, sounding irritated.
“But Cerebro didn’t pick up on that kid you guys met in the shop?”, Kitty asked.
“Apparently not”, Scott said.
“Then maybe Jean was wrong then”, Bobby said.
“I don’t know about that. If Jean said she felt something coming from him, then I believe her”. Scott said.
“And you would have good reason to do so”, a familiar voice said. They all turned to see Xavier make his way into the room, Jean at his side. Once he was fully inside, the older man spoke to them as a group, his face bewildered and worried.
“I have spoken with Jean about the child you both met”, he said, looking at Scott.
“So what’s the word then? Is it true?”, Spike asked.
“After giving me the details of your encounter, I believe Jean to be correct”, Xavier said.
“Telepaths, especially one that is as experienced as Jean have the ability to sense the difference between that of a human mind and one of a mutant”, the older man said.
“I couldn't feel anything coming from his mind because it...was blocked somehow. Usually, only a mutant can do that”, Jean said.
“Indeed”, Xavier said.
“It is more than likely that the child possesses some kind of gene that we don’t know about”, he said.
“Professor, could it be that he’s a telepath, too? Maybe that’s the reason Jean couldn’t sense his thoughts”, Kurt suggested.
“But Cerebro didn’t pick up that mutant sig though”, Bobby said.
“Yes…”, professor”, said, pressing his fingers together.
“That’s what confuses me. Usually, our system can detect any mutants...anywhere”, he said.
“Well, I guess it’s about time to reprogram it”, Bobby said, enthusiastically rubbing his hands together.
“And we’ll be sure to come to you if it needs breaking”, Kitty said, looking at him.
“Do you really think he could be a telepath?”, she asked.
“Perhaps. Anything’s possible”, Xavier said.
“Which is why I would like for Scott and Jean to go find him again.”, he said, turning his attention to the older teens.
“I’ve mapped the area and there are only a few elementary schools near that shop. It should be easy enough to find him”, Jean said.
“Yeah. If he actually goes to school around there”, Scott said.
“We can go Friday. I should be able to sense him...or not sense him without even having to actually go in”, Jean said.
“Well, that’s a relief”, Scott said.
“I’m in”, he agreed.
“Excellent. Hopefully, we’ll be able to offer some help if the child if needs it”, the older man said.
“Uh, we’ll see how his sister...uh I mean mom.”, the brunette said, feeling his cheeks get hot again. What the others had said earlier had made him antsy.
“We’ll see how his mom feels about it”, he quickly corrected himself. He bit the inside of his lip nervously. Jean raised a curious brow at him, looking amused but didn’t say anything. The other’s teasing from earlier was still under his skin. He'd have to get back at those three guys sometime next week.
Scott and Jean talked to the others for a few minutes before both deciding they were both in need of cheeseburgers. Considering the smug looks he was getting from Bobby. Scott didn’t think that he could get out of there fast enough. He readily agreed, already feeling worried that the younger one would say something weird to Jean. The two were still talking once they outside, the young man happy to be spending more time alone with his girlfriend while Jean still slightly looked preoccupied with her own thoughts. Scott furrowed his brow, feeling a twinge of concern for the spaced out look on her face.
“Jean, are you ok?”, he asked.
The redhead looked at him and smiled a moment later.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Just...thinking about that kid still”, she said.
“I guess you think he really could be another telepath. If he is, he might need help with his powers...even if they haven’t emerged yet. We could help ease him into it”, the brunette said.
“Well, that is something but…”, Jean trailed off.
“But what?”, Scott asked.
“I don’t know...it’s just something about the kid we met...I could barely read anything coming from him but...he somehow felt familiar for some reason”
