Back on the plane to New York, Harry was avoiding looking into anyone's eyes. He didn't want to go into the details of what had happened in Britain but he knew he would have to. It seemed that Bruce valued these people and their friendship meant a lot to him. He knew that he couldn't take that away from him just because he didn't want to talk.
Tony had been kind enough to offer him and Teddy a home, he owed him at least an explanation. And according to the Agent with them, he would be joining their ragtag team of superheroes, he owed them all an explanation."So...where do you want me to start?" he asked them, knowing that not telling them would be detrimental in the long run."I find the beginning to be a good place." Natasha replied dryly, expertly hiding her curiosity about the new individual."Right, the beginning cause I never thought of that." Harry replied, shooting a glare at her. "This could take a while.""It's a long flight, even though it's my plane so it's shorter than commercial flights." Tony replied back."Well, don't say I didn’t warn you." Harry mumbled. "When I was a little over a year old, my parents were murdered by a madman with dreams of world domination--""How?" Steve interrupted, feeling that they hadn't really started at the beginning."You may have to start earlier than that, possibly with explaining about what they studied in school." Agent Coulson suggested.Looking down, Harry let out a large exhale, knowing that he had to tell them everything. He jumped when he felt a hand grabbing his, squeezing in encouragement. Looking up, he looked at Bruce who was looking at him with understanding."Alright. There is a secret society hidden from everyone else in the world. A society that's frankly stuck in the middle ages but what do they need technology for, they have magic." Harry restarted his explanation, finishing off condescendingly."Magic?" Thor interrupted this time, reminded of what that power had done to his relationship with his brother."Not like Loki, Thor. These people Harry speaks of build their whole lives around magic, they cannot function without it simply because they don't know how to." Agent Coulson explained before the Asgardian stared attacking Harry for his magic. "They are born with the ability to wield magic, it's not a learned art like Loki's. The school they go to does not teach them how to acquire magic, it teaches them the way they can harness the magic that they are born with.""How do you know so much about it?" Bruce asked the Agent."SHEILD was asked to step in to find Mr. Potter when he disappeared, they had to brief us on everything. Director Fury and I are the only two people who know the full extent of the magical world. We dug in further into his past when they asked us to step in so we have all the details. When we found him, we made sure to always keep them off track when they got close to tracking him. We both thought that he had been hurt by them enough, had done enough for them, he deserved a chance to be away from them, a chance to finally be happy." Coulson explained."You followed him?" Teddy questioned, wondering just how creepy these people were going to turn out to be."Not exactly. We kept tabs on where he was and steered the Ministry away from his trail if they were getting too close at any point in time." Coulson explained."Okay, so this society, what's so important about them?" Clint questioned, trying to get back to the story."My parents and their murderer were a part of it. My father and mother were both raised learning magic at the British school, Hogwarts. That's where they met and fell in love. They married straight out of school and had me. Their murderer, a man named Tom Riddle, had been terrorizing the community by that point. Tom wanted a fully pure blooded magical society. My mother came from a family of non-magical people, so she naturally was on his list of people who needed to be exterminated from the magical community." Harry went back to the story, deciding to think about the fact that SHIELD had been following him later."Sounds to me like Hitler." Steve mumbled, clearly angry at the similarities between this Tom Riddle and the leader of the Nazi party."They are similar, yes." Harry replied, internally thinking that Tom may have been more merciful in the way he tried to get rid of muggle borns. Hitler tortured and condoned concentration camps, Tom just used two words in killing his victims."Tom changed his name; he became a Dark Lord by the name of Voldemort, a name he chose in part to show his desire to flee from death. He began killing muggles, people born with no magic as well as muggle borns, people who had been born of non-magical people but did possess magic, like my mother. My parents’ location at the time was told to him by one of their friends who betrayed them; he showed up and killed my father then mother on Halloween." Harry resumed his explanation. "When he tried to kill me though, he failed. His soul was ripped from his body and fled, not to be seen for years and I was left with the parting gift from him of a scar on my forehead, shaped like a lightning bolt. In one night, I became an orphan and murderer, all while barely being over a year old.""I was then taken to be raised by my mother's sister, Petunia. She and her husband and son took me in, unwillingly. I was treated like an unwanted insect in their pristine house up until the age of eleven. For ten years I grew up not knowing about the magical community, not knowing what I had done for them and not knowing about my own magic. Then I was contacted on my eleventh birthday. I began attending Hogwarts and learning about magic. While I was excited to learn magic, there was a down side. I realized that everyone in the wizard world expected something from me. They had had ten years of glorifying me, of picturing me in their mind the way they wanted me to be. I was to be the hero and saviour of some, the picture of innocence and purity for others. Some saw me as the bane of their existence, a stuck up child who had grown with a golden spoon in his mouth. Others yet saw an enemy, those who had followed Voldemort. And then there were the Weasley’s.”“They get their own category?” Clint questioned, fascinated by the story so far.“They deserve it. The Weasley’s were what was known as blood traitors. A family of pure bloods who didn’t live up to the status of a pureblood or their upbringing. Arthur Weasley had a menial job working in the Ministry, it paid pennies compared to what he should have been making and worked closely with muggles. Molly and Arthur had seven children and not the money to fend for them all. The clothing of their children’s was handed down from one to the next and their books were second hand. Everyone saw them as a joke, a disgrace to wizard kind in some cases.” Harry explained.“When I first was on my way to Hogwarts, I met their son, Ronald. I had grown up without friends so I was starved for attention and immediately accepted that this person would be my friend. I should’ve known that it was too good to be true when the first question he asked me was if I had the scar. We got to the school and I went to the same dormitory section that my parents had gone to, as everyone expected of me. Ronald and Hermione were there too.”Bruce squeezed his hand in reassurance when he paused for a moment and Teddy shot him a look of encouragement. Deciding that it would be no use explaining the adventured of his school time, he skipped straight to his seventh year.“Voldemort kept trying to come back during my school years but was always thwarted by me, Ronald and Hermione until finally when I was fourteen, he succeeded. The Ministry refused to believe me for some time but finally they had no choice but to admit that he was back. Overnight I was to take up my mantle as the Chosen One, the person who was once again supposed to miraculously defeat him. In my seventh year, the war came to a head at Hogwarts and I managed to kill him once and for all. That was also the day that Teddy lost his mother and father and became my official responsibility.”“After the cleanup that took months and dealing with press and Ministry, life started to settle and people started getting back to their lives. That’s when I started seeing Ginevra, Ronald’s younger sister, again. We had begun a romance in my sixth year but I didn’t want to be with anyone when the war broke out so we only got together when it was over. On my part, I only did it out of expectation. Everyone expected me to go out with my school sweetheart, my friends little sister. Within four months, I had proposed and we were to be married. Again, something that was expected of me not that I planned on doing because I wanted to.”“The wedding came and we got married. We were set to leave the next day for a world trip, visiting countries all over and being a couple of newlyweds on our honeymoon. Until I got a letter from my bank. It said there were urgent matters that they needed to discuss with me and I needed to come in the next morning. I told Ginevra that I had some matters to attend to the next morning and that we would leave in the afternoon.”“What, you were married before Bruce?” Clint asked.“Not exactly, we didn’t actually sleep together because we agreed that we should do it on our honeymoon for the first time. So you could call it a paper marriage only.” Harry replied.“But you just said that you were about to go on your honeymoon.” Tony shot back.“I never said we actually went.”“What happened?” Natasha asked.“The bank appointment. The people running the bank had noticed that Ginevra had been to the Potter family vaults several times leading up to the wedding and had removed various artifacts. The artifacts were heirlooms that had been in the family for generations plus the money she had transferred to her family account, all without telling me. They hadn’t transferred the last amount as it required the owner of the vault’s approval, not a family member like a wife. Apparently when she had gone to transfer and take things out before, they had been small amounts so they had allowed it seeing as she was to be my wife. This amount was much bigger though and they requested her to bring me. She backtracked and told them to forget about it so they got suspicious and contacted me.I had them return all the money from the vaults, perform magic to return all the artifacts back to where they belonged and headed home. I didn’t say anything about it when I got there but she kept shooting me these looks all throughout lunch at her parents’ house. She knew that I had found out.”Harry remembered that day like it had happened yesterday. He recited it all for the avid listeners, Teddy and Bruce included who didn’t know every detail of the day he had divorced Ginevra Weasley.~*Flashback~*Harry apparated into the back garden of the Burrow, eyebrows contracted in a frown as he thought about his wife’s actions. He would have given the Weasleys anything they wanted had they just asked, there was no reason for them to steal from him. Though he tried to stop himself from thinking that all the family was involved in this mess. For all he knew, it was only Ginny who was acting of her own free will, it could have nothing to do with anyone else in the family, and they might not even know that this had happened.Deciding to wait until he confronted them, he plastered a fake smile on his face and walked into the house, greeting Molly in the kitchen as he walked by.“How was your appointment dear?” She questioned, smiling at her new son-in-law.“Fine, just a small misunderstanding about some of my vaults.” Harry replied, face not giving anything away.“Alright, well it’s almost lunch time, why don’t you go call Ginny down; you guys don’t want to be late for your portkey!” Molly encouraged, her smile becoming a bit tense at the edges.Harry refrained from replying, moving to go upstairs to call Ginny. He knocked on her door, waiting for her to call him in. Going inside, he found her lying on her bed, idly flipping through a magazine. “Lunch is ready; your mom wants us to go down.”“Harry! When did you get home sweetie?” Ginny jumped up, running towards Harry. She leaned in to plant a kiss on his lips but he turned his head at the last minute, causing her lips to land on his cheek instead.“Harry?” She questioned, confused. He had never done that before.“Your mom wants us for lunch.” Harry told her again, turning around without saying anything else, moving to go downstairs. The family all sat down for lunch, even Bill and Charlie joining them downstairs as they were home for the weekend. Half way through dinner, Ginny decided to ask about his visit to Gringotts. She would come to regret that decision for the rest of her life.“Funny you should bring that up. They had some interesting news about recent activity in my vaults.” Harry replied, watching her face pale drastically. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that would you?”Silence descended on the table as everyone stared between the two newlyweds, looks ranging from confusion to shock being aimed at them. “I…I…Why would I know anything about that?” Ginny questioned, face paling even further.“Oh no reason,” Harry replied, voice mild. “Just you know, the goblins seemed to think that you made several withdrawals since before the wedding.”“Oh yeah, you know I had to make them for the… you know…” Ginny trailed off, not knowing what excuse to give.Molly came to her daughters rescue, unknowingly proving to her son-in-law that she knew about her daughter’s behaviour. “The wedding! That’s right; she made some withdrawals to cover the wedding costs!”“Huh, the wedding. That sounds fair.” Harry replied, watching as they both seemed to calm down before he went for the proverbial kill. “Only the withdrawals weren’t money. Or I should say not just money. Not only did you take out heirlooms, heirlooms that have been in the Potter family for generations, but also the money wasn’t spent. It was directly transferred into your family vaults and your personal vaults.”Silence reigned around the table for a few minutes before Fred broke it with a strangled “What?”“So Ginny,” Harry started again, putting down his fork and knife, wiping his mouth and turning fully to face his wife. “Care to offer any explanation as to what the goblins meant by that?”“What’s to explain?” Ron suddenly piped up, cluing Harry into the fact that this might extend further than just the women in the family. “We’re your in-laws; your wife is trying to support her family so she took some money from your vault. What’s yours is hers after all.”“Okay, so many things wrong with that, but here are two that jump out at me,” Harry tried to control the anger from his voice. “One, you were not my in-laws yet at the time of the withdrawals, second and more importantly, if she had told me or if any of you had asked, I would have given you the money in a heartbeat! Instead she c hose to rob me, and you supported her in that!”“It wasn’t robbery Harry,” Arthur chimed in. “She saw that we were struggling and was only trying to help, son.”“What the hell are you all talking about?” Bill suddenly exploded, glaring at his parents and Ron. “Of course it was robbery, her going behind her fiancé’s back like that!”“Besides, how could you, any of you, condone her actions like that?” Charlie piped up; staring around him at the people he thought that he knew better than anyone.“Suppose that Harry hadn’t proposed to Ginny, what would you have done, where would you have got the money from?” George questioned, wondering just what was going on, if this was some elaborate prank being played on them.“Please,” Hermione piped up finally. Harry wondered what side she would be on, would she stick with her husband and his family or her best friend. “Harry actually has an obligation to give at least if not all of his wealth to the Weasley family.”Silence met that statement before Harry snorted. “How do you figure that? Go ahead; inform me, I’m listening.” Harry made a show of leaning back in his chair, crossing his legs and giving his undivided attention to Hermione.“Well, since you’re technically a first generation pureblood, since your mother was muggle born, it means that the family you married into, the Weasley’s who are of purer blood than you deserve all your money. They are living below their station while you are living above yours, it’s only right since you married their daughter for you to support them.” Hermione explained, expecting Harry to listen to her like he did each time before now.Harry was silent for a few moments, watching as the family seemed to split into two. Bill, Charlie and the twins were looking at Hermione and Ginny with disgust while Molly, Arthur and Ron were nodding along to Hermione’s words. Ginny was staring at Harry expectantly, wondering why he was making a big deal out of this.“I see, so it’s my duty to give everything my family worked hard for over generations just because I got married.” Harry responded before standing up, placing his hands on the table and leaning forward to make sure that everyone heard what he said next.“I took back all the money and the heirlooms. I forbade the goblins from ever authorizing a transaction unless I was present. I am not spending a knut on this family, not today, not ever.” Harry paused for breath here, collecting his thoughts before he dealt the final blow. “I sent a message to the ministry to stop the marriage application, essentially divorcing your daughter not even a full day after the wedding. From this point forward, I don’t want anything to do with you, your family or anyone related to you. This of course excludes the twins, Bill and Charlie. If I ever see you again, do me a favour. Pretend you don’t know me.”~*Flashback End~*“Needless to say, they didn’t really listen.” Harry concluded, watching as Bruce tried calming himself down. Hulk would not be appreciated in a plane and everyone knew it.“So what did you do after that?” Clint spoke up, coming out of his trance that Harry’s story had put him in.“I divorced her, packed my stuff and went on my honeymoon tour, alone.” Harry replied. “I had to get away from England, at any cost.”“Where did you go?” Steve asked, wondering just how Bruce came into all of this. His question was answered sooner than he thought.“India.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
