Kalina Blue Star
Chapter Three
Isabella smiled and shifted, trying to find a more comfortable postition, "Thanks Cait. Guess the bad guys will be disappointed to know that they couldn't keep me out for the count."
"I suppose they will. Sure did give us a scare Isa. But I knew you would pull through." Caitlyn said with a laugh.
"Is this the part where you lecture me on listening to warnings when they are given? Or some shit like that?" Isabella asked, looking at the redhead.
Caitlyn leaned back in her chair and eyed Isabella, who now had color back in her face, "Well normally I would. However I think that you have learned your lesson, wouldn't you say?"
"Yes, it was like being hit by a frieght train. Moments like that make me wish that I was indestructable like Rogue. Sure would have came in handy."
"Well don't worry. I took care of lightening boy for you. However when you are cleared to fight again, I want you to listen to what people have to say to you, especially if it will save your life. Now Malina said not to keep you up long, that you needed to rest."
"Hell," exclaimed Isabella, "I was in a coma for half the day, I don't need no rest. Besides, tell me about the cut on your neck."
Caitlyn winced and fingered the bandage gently, "Lets just say I had another run in with the opposition and they were spittin' knives. Crazy ass bitch on their side decided to try and carve me up."
Isabella arched a eyebrow, "Oh really and what did you do to her?"
Caitlyn stood with a smile and started towards the door, "Carved her up instead. Get some rest, Isa, and I'll see you in the morning."
"Night."
Caitlyn flicked off the light as she left the room. Stretching her arms above her head as she made her way upstairs, she said goodnight to the members of her team that she saw and made her way to her room, ready to just collapse on the bed. The three hour time difference had finally caught up with her and she was ready to just pass out. Moving automatically, she grabbed a towel and her nightclothes and took a brieg shower, washing off the blood and makeup. Slipping on her comfortable tank top and shorts, Caitlyn mumbled a good night to Andais who was half asleep herself. Sliding into her bed, she pulled the blankets up around her shoulders and fell to sleep.
James stroked her face with a single finger, his touch feather light, "I knew you couldn't resist me."
Caitlyn stared at him, her emerald eyes wide, and shivered at his touch. Grasping what his words meant, she jerked her head away from him and took several steps backward, "Your wrong."
"Come now, love, why try and stop what the heart wants? It would be so much easier to give in." he said quietly, stepping closer to her and grabbing her arm. Even as he was pulling her against him, Caitlyn was shaking her head.
"I don't let my heart rule me. Besides, whoever said that it wanted you?"
He slipped his arm around her waist and held her tight against him, his free hand coming up to tangle in her hair, "Your trembling. Your breath is short. Your eyes are glazed over. Your heart is racing. Tell me now that you don't want me."
Caitlyn opened her mouth to protest, but never got the chance as his mouth covered hers. It was a much different kiss than the one he gave her earlier. Instead of being rough and demanding, it was tender and sweet. Lost in the kiss, her arms came up and wrapped around his neck and she pressed closer, her mouth opening under his. Accepting her offer, his tongue swept in and she moaned softly.
It was her moan that changed it. The tender kiss went to demanding as he plundered her mouth, wanting more. Caitlyn responded eagerly and the two devored each other, locked in the embrace. His hand slipped under her shirt and his fingers caressed her flesh. Caitlyn sighed and allowed him to move them to the bed that just appeared. James laid her on it gently and stared at her. Her lips were swollen, her eyes heavy. His eyes traveled down the length of her body and he felt himself harden just at the sight of her. Laying next to her, his hand came out and cupped her breast, his index finger flicking over her hard nipple. Her response was immediate as she reached out and stroked him through his pants. His mouth desended on her nipple and Caitlyn-
Woke from the dream, drenched in sweat and aching. Her eyes wide, she glanced over at Andais, who seemed obvious to anything Caitlyn might have done or said. Glancing at the clock beside her bed, Caitlyn was shocked to see that she had been asleep for seven hours. That must have been the only dream that she remembered and she shuddered at the thought of what her other dreams might have been. Moving quietly, she got out of bed and gathered up a pair of sweats and headed down to the danger room. On her way, she checked in on Isabella who was sleeping quietly.
Stopping at a bathroom she changed and entered the control room for the danger room. Wanting to work off her frustration and sexual tension, she programed it for level 5 and entered. Shaking her arms out to the side, she waited for it to begin, knowing that this was a mistake since she didn't even stretch first. The first wave of attacks began and she was just a blur of motion as she dodged and attacked. When the smoke faded, there were six broken machines laying at her feet. Feeling the adrealine rush through her body, Caitlyn sank into a crouch and waited.
The computer switched on her, moving from laser blast machines to simulations and Caitlyn found herself faced off against Sabertooth. Taking a deep breath, Caitlyn shifted into her cat-woman form and waited for the attack. Sim-Sabertooth roared and charged her. Waiting until he was inches from her, she leapt into the air and twisted over him. Her arm shot out in a quick jab to the kidneys and then her foot slammed into his ribs. The fake Sabertooth grunted and grabbed her foot before she could pull away. In a blink of a eye, Caitlyn was soaring through the air. Shifting forms, she landed and shook out her mane, a full grown male lion. Her enemy chared her and she knocked him out with one mightly swipe of her powerful paw. Digging into the ground with her claws, she waited for the next wave.
But it never came. Startled, Caitlyn shifted back to normal and glanced over at the open door and sighed, seeing her sisters. A quick glance at the clock revealed she had been active in the danger room for a hour and a half and it was now time for everyone to be getting up and getting ready. Today was the grand re-opening of the Gallagher's Hotel and Restruant and they expected a full house. Arching a eyebrow at her sister's she swept past them saying, "I'll reset it at level two for you guys. Work out for a hour and then find Dias to see what she wants you to do."
Krysta and KeLyssa groaned but entered the danger room and noted the damage and remarked at the same time, "Wonder what crawled up her ass."
Caitlyn made her way back to her room after setting the danger room up for her sister. She had to shower and changed into her hotel uniform and get the desk ready for check ins. Meredith and herself were taking first shift, which was nine to five and after them, would be the two people her uncle hired, while Duncan would have the graveyard shift. On her way up she met Andais who took one look at her sweat soaked body and asked, "Danger Room?"
Caitlyn nodded, "Yeah. Krys and Lys are in there now but when they finish and shower, they'll be looking for you. Things looking good?"
Andais nodded, "Yeah I'm just on my way to the restraunt to make sure that the food for the reception is ready. Oh and your uncle and aunt are here with someone else. I left them waiting into the parlor for you."
"Thanks I'll take a quick shower and head that way." Caitlyn said, jogging the rest of the way up the stairs and to her room. She could have taken the elevator, but this was better excerise. Her shower was hot but quick. She changed into black slacks and a white blouse. Twisting her damp red curls into a bun at the base of her neck, she applied a minimum amount of makeup and grabbed her name tag and took the elevator back down to the ground floor. Waving at Meredith who was setting up the desk, she said, "I'll be there in a minute. Uncle Aiden and Aunt Brianna are in the parlour, waiting on me."
"Take your time, I got things under control. But I should warn you, the reporters are en masse in the lobby, waiting for the banquet hall to open up for the reception and I've already checked in twenty guests." Meredith comment just as the phone rang. Caitlyn nodded as she answered it and hurried to the parlour, having to stop twice and assist guests. It wasn't even eight o'clock and things were already getting busy. She had to grin at that, the Gallaghers did know how to run a business and bring in the guests. Opening the parlour doors, she slipped in and shut it behind her. Seeing her uncle and aunt she rushed over to hug them.
"Uncle Aiden! Aunt Brianna!" she exclaimed pulling back to look at them.
Her uncle was tall, like most of the Gallaghers. He had tousled chatlin hair, which was a shady mix of blonde and brown. His own green eyes were two shades deeper than her own. Her aunt was petite and slender, almost fairy like. She had burnished red curls that fell to her waist. Both of them had dressed business casual for this event, which would be announcing that they would be heading off to Boston, to open another branch of the hotel. And while they were gone, they would be placing the management of the LA branch into the capable hands of Andais McFarland and their niece.
"Mavoreen, tis' good to see you." Aiden spoke, his voice still carrying the accent of the land he left almost twenty years ago. It was his brother that had married Caitlyn and the twin's mother.
Brianna smiled at her, "Caitlyn, you've grown so much since we last saw you. Where are the twins?"
"Oh they'll see you at the reception. They are down in the basement taking care of some stuff." Caitlyn replied, winking. Her aunt and uncle nodded, knowing exactly what she was talking about. Aiden and Brianna, along with Aiden's sister Celeste, were the only one's in the family who knew that the girls were mutants.
"I see how you are, chica. Just ignore me. That's ok I can leave." said someone from a seat across the room. Caitlyn turned and smiled at the woman who stood up. She was wearing a outfit of black leather with a yellow trenchcoat over it. Her black hair was spikey with a pair of pink shades resting on top of her head.
"Jubilee! I didn't know you were going to be here!" Caitlyn said, hugging a girl who had been her first friend at the Insitute when she had gotten there. Of course, Jubilee had left the next year, joining a another group of mutants. Caitlyn couldn't recall their names at the moment, but she was glad to see her old friend, who she hadn't seen in almost ten years.
"Well, after your aunt and uncle decided to let ya'll run the hotel, Professor Xavier asked me to travel with them as thier bodyguard in case someone found out they were turning their hotel over to mutants. For their safety, their stuck with me until your mission is done. By the way, congrats on the mission." Jubilee explained, snapping a piece of the gum.
Caitlyn flushed, "Don't congradulate me yet. We've only been here less than a day and already got someone in the medlab downstairs. But lets not talk about that now. We have a reception to attend to. Are you leaving right afterwards?"
"I am afraid that we are, darling. We have to get back to Boston to close the deal on the building for that branch." answered Brianna with a soft smile.
"Oh." commented Caitlyn, who had wanted a bit more time with her aunt and uncle and to talk with Jubilee, who was just the person who could perk her up. Pushing away her disappointment, she flashed them a bright smile, "Well, thats okay, then. Shall we go?"
The three nodded and they all left together, meeting the twins on the way to the banquet room. The twins bubbled over their aunt and uncle, brushing off the comments about their hair, just saying, "It suits us." After the brief catch me up, they were joined by Andais and the seven traveled to the reception.
Aiden, Brianna, Andais, and Caitlyn all took their places on the platform set up with microphones and faced the crowded room. Caitlyn, who had never experienced something like this, swallowed hard when she saw the mass of media. But Aiden stepped confidently up to the microphones and made his announcement.
"I would like to welcome you all to the Grand Re-Opening of the Gallaghers Hotel and Restruant, LA. As you all know, we remodeled the place and it is looking very grand. I would like to thank you all for coming, for my wife and I have made a announcement. Now you might be wondering who these two young ladies up here with us are, and that is easily answered. May I present the new General Manager of the hotel, Andais McFarland. Her assistant manager, my very own niece, Caitlyn Gallagher. Now you might have heard that there will be a new branch opening up in Boston and this is true. My wife and I will spending alot of time there getting things set up. And while we are away, we are turning over the running of the hotel to Andais and Caitlyn. I know them both will do us proud."
He backed away and the questions began.
"Ms. McFarland, what kind of experience do you have?"
"Ms. Gallagher, do you have the same faith in yourself as your uncle does? After all this would be your first time running a five star hotel and restruant such as your uncles."
Andais stepped up first and answered, "I own a small B&B in New York. I am grateful for the oppurtunties that Aiden and his wife are giving me. I'm sure that I won't let them down."
As she stepped away, she nudged Caitlyn forward, who sighed to herself. Licking her lips, she spoke, "I know that Uncle Aiden believes that I can do this. And I believe it as well. Ever since I was a child, whenever I traveled, I stayed at his hotels whenever it was available. I have spent several summer vacations helping out in Gallaghers of New Orleans. This won't be a problem. After all, a Gallagher must run Gallaghers."
The media laughed at her last comment and she stepped back, letting her family handle the rest of the questions. About to slip away to assist Meredith at the front desk, when she noticed someone with pale blonde hair, stepping away from the crowd. Reconginzing him, she slipped away and followed him outside. He was waiting for her on the steps. Duncan watched from beside one of the vans, ready to help her if it was needed.
Caitlyn glared at him and hissed, "How did you find me?"
James smiled and toyed with a loose curl that framed her face, "I followed you last night. When I found out you were staying here I did a little research, kitten."
Caitlyn felt her heart restrict for that was her mother's nickname for her, "Don't call me that." she growled, slapping his hand away from her curls. A feeling of deja vu swept over her, and she realized that this was very similiar to her dream. A slight flush graced her cheek, causing James to stare.
"Oh does the pretty pussy get embarassed by public displays of affection?" he questioned, smirking.
"This is not affection. This is a annoyance. By the way, how is Falen doing this morning?" Caitlyn asked sweetly.
James's face hardened, and he grabbed her arm and squeezed, "You put one of my people out of commision for a very long time with that stunt of yours, kit."
Caitlyn twisted her arm out of his grasp and waved Duncan off who had started to rush forward. Leaning forward until she was inches away from James's face, she spoke, "I hope you enjoy the feeling since that is what you and stupid group did to one of my girls. Now listen and listen good, pup, get off this property or I will personally throw you off. Don't come back here ever again, don't even think about telling your people about this place unless you want them returned to you in a body bag. I will not have a family enterprised turned into a war ground because of you are your delusional ideas. This place is to be nuetral ground. Got that?"
"Oh I got it. And this isn't over sweetheart. Meet me tonight at the Tar Pits and we'll settle this. Bring your friends if you want, I don't mind. We'll just have to teach you that what you saw yesterday was nothing. You and your girlfriends aren't going to stop us. Nothing can stop us." James growled and disappeared. Caitlyn blinked and stared at the spot he just vacated, "How did he do that? He's not a teleporter...unless he's shifter and teleporter both."
"He's not." commented Finn, stepping out beside her, "I sensed the two of you when things got a little iffy. And just before he disappeared, I got a flash of something else, someone who teleported him out of here. They are powerful. We'll have to be careful."
Duncan joined them, "So you going to meet him tonight at the LaBrea Tar Pits?"
Caitlyn looked at him and shrugged, "Don't know, yet. We'll have a meeting later this afternoon when things slow down. But for now I got to go and help Merry. Ya'll be careful when you go to the airport today. I think we have somewhat of a truce but you never know."
She patted them both on the shoulder and headed back inside. Saying good bye to her aunt and unce and Jubilee, she joined Meredith at the front desk and got to work, something that kept her occupied all day, not giving her time to think of anything else. Later that evening, she was joined in the parlour by Meredith, Andais, Krysta, KeLyssa, Tianna, Duncan and Finn. With the exception of the teens, they were all drinking a glass of wine to celebrate a day well done. The teens were sipping sparkling water, glaring at them all.
"This is so not fair. We should get to have one glass." complained Krysta.
"Ya'll just suck." muttered KeLyssa, sipping her water.
"Hush, we are here for a reason." warned Tianna, noting the concerned look on Caitlyn's face.
"Hey Cait," said KeLyssa, ignoring Tianna's warning, "where did you go during the reception, you slipped out on us."
Caitlyn twirled her wineglass in her hand, looking thoughtful for a moment, "Actually that's why I called this meeting. Aubrie and Malina couldn't join us cause they are serving dinner shift. And I'm not telling Isabella about it cause she'll insist on joining us."
"Joining us where?" questioned Meredith, glad she was finally going to find out what happened earlier that made Caitlyn so quiet throughout the day.
"On a little field trip to the LaBrea Tar Pits."
Tianna jumped up, "But you said Jean told us not to go out. To keep close to the hotel."
"Do you see Jean here? Is she in charge of this mission? No. Now listen up. I disappeared earlier because the leader of Velocity Force showed up. We exchanged words. You'll be happy to hear that the bitched who attacked me will be out of the fight for a while. I got him to agree to leave the hotel nuetral terroritory. However, he wants to meet at the tar pits to settle the score of me injuring his girl and him for injuring mine. Here's the question, should we go?" Caitlyn explained.
Andais looked at her, "Did he say come alone?"
"Quite the opposite, he said to bring you all if I wanted. Which makes me think that this will be a trap. So I want to take our best, if I do go."
"So that will be Malina, the twins, Tianna, Finn and myself." commented Meredith.
"Now wait a minute here. Why not me?" demanded Duncan, not about to let them go out on their own.
"Someone has to stay to run the vans." replied Meredith.
"Bollocks. Finn and myself don't start working until twelve. And if your taking Malina that means you won't be leaving until after nine." retorted Duncan, "Leave Aubrie and the twins to run things and take myself and Andais. You'll need her for communications."
"He's got a point there." Andais said.
"HEY! You can't leave us. "
"Yeah, you'll need us." said Krysta.
Caitlyn sat down and thought, "I could take Finn, Duncan, Andais, Malina, the twins, and Meredith. Tianna can help Aubrie while we are going."
"But I want to go." whined Tianna, looking at the all with a angry look on her face.
"Tianna, I can't take you all. We need Duncan and Finn because they know the lay of the land. The twins are stronger than you together. Andais needs to go to keep us all in contact and to alert us of danger. Malina and Meredith are needed for their experience and power. And I have to go. I'm the one he wants. You'll have to sit this battle out." Caitlyn explained gently.
"Why did I even come if I don't get to go and do something? You'll take the twins because their your sisters but you won't take me because what I'm too young? Thats not fair." Tianna yelled.
"Tianna, chill out. If your too young to go then so are the twins. We can go on favorites here. It has to be stragetic and stragetically for a encounter at the tar pits, you just wouldn't be as helpful as the others." snapped Meredith, not noting the hurt on Tianna's face, but Caitlyn did. But before she could say anything, Tianna stormed out to go and see Isabella and complain.
Caitlyn gave Meredith a look, "You didn't have to be that harsh on her."
"Yes she did and you know it Caitlyn. Tianna is a great fighter but you know when she doesn't get her way she whines and throws a fit." Andais said.
Caitlyn sighed, "Yeah but I don't want her to feel like we don't need her."
"Tianna is going to have to learn that she can't be part of every fight." remarked Duncan, sitting on the arm of the chair that Krysta was sitting in.
Caitlyn nodded and looked at her sisters, "I'm taking you tonight because you both can work with the area of that we will be in. But don't expect to go with us all the time. Sometimes other's will be needed where your not. So don't pull that stunt again. Now I have to go and smooth things over with Tianna because it does look like I'm favoring you over her." She glanced at the clock, "Everyone that is going, meet back here in two hours. That will put us at nine thirty."
She walked out and went searching for Tianna. Everyone else stayed in the room, discussing the upcoming mission amoungest themselves.
