A Thief in the Night

**Sorry this one's so short, but it made sense to stop the action here.

They ordered breakfast when the waitress came back and each stayed silent until Rogue joined them. Her hair was still wet and she didn’t have much makeup on.
"Gutenmorgen, meine Schwester."* He said, rising from his seat slightly in greeting.
"Hallo, mein Bruder."** She replied. Rogue had made the effort to learn a little German in the past few years; Kurt had been delighted. "Was ist zum Frühstück?"*** She asked, signaling to the waitress.
"I'm getting pancakes and sausage." Kurt said, handing her his menu. "I'm just glad I don't have dish duty."
"I'm having a bagel, scrambled eggs and coffee." Kitty said. "The waffles smell pretty good, though." She said, nodding at the table next to theirs. Rogue ordered strawberry belgian waffles, a side order of bacon, and eggs.
"Hungry, Rogue?" Kurt asked, his sister wasn't usually a breakfast eater. "Shopping must have really drained you." He added when she nearly choked on her coffee. Rogue darted a quick look at Kitty who paled slightly.
"Yeah." Kitty added. "It does." Kurt didn't notice his sister's discomfort. He did look over her outfit with a pleased expression.
"You do look very nice, today." He said, admiring the dark trousers and violet sweater. "Not your usual somber self."
"The complete replacement of one's wardrobe gives an unusual opportunity to try new things." She gave him a tight smile. She was also trying to make the best of the situation. "Ah'll go over to the apartment building and look things over today, then Ah'll start compiling a list of the stuff we had."
"I was planning to do the same thing after I returned Amara's stuff." Kitty added. "Wanna go face the music together?" They agreed to go to the Institute together and drop Kurt off. Then the girls would return to the building and search as a team. After their breakfasts were served, the talking stopped. Rogue attacked her waffle with gusto and Kity and Kurt found their own appetites to be substantial. Rogue returned to her room to dry her hair and get her coat. She'd purchased a charcoal, wool peacoat and deep burgundy gloves, hat and scarf.
Kurt drove the Volvo back to the institute, Kitty rode shotgun and Rogue sat behind her. After a few minutes of driving, Rogue borached the subject of Quicksilver carefuly.
"Ah mentioned this to Kitty, but you should probably know too." She said to her brother. "Ah've been listening to gossip and heard again that Quicksilver was definitely involved with Lance's atack on the apartment." She bit her lip and continued carefully when Kurt nodded. "Word is, he was hoping Ah'd get hurt, or worse." This jerked his head around fast enough to make Kitty steady the wheel.
"You?" He asked. "Why does he want to hurt you?" Rogue shrugged.
"Ah suppose he's got something against me, personally." She said. "Seems he's disliked me for a while and he just fed Lance's rage and egged him on a bit."
"Where did you hear this stuff?" He asked, returning his gaze to the road.
"My source doesn't want to get involved in any of this, but Ah think he heard it from Wanda." Rogue caught Kurt's gaze in the rearview mirror. "Ah'll keep listening for more." She said.
"You're just like Wolverine." Kurt pouted. "So mysterious about your snitches." Rogue lughed and tried to make light of his comment.
"You watch too many cop shows, Wagner." Kurt chuckled too, but his eyes narrowed. This brought an interesting perspective to things. He'd have to talk to Logan about it.
