I know, I know, the danger room doesn't work with voice commands (at least in the timeline I kinda placing this story in) but I thought it would be more interesting if it could. Hey, it's MY story after all :P
It had been two full weeks since Lo'Rae's unusual introduction to Earth. She was told that she had actually teleported just above the school grounds and had been lucky that Logan had been outside. If he hadn't been there to catch her as she fell, even her alien strength may not have saved her life after hitting the ground. Logan had run her to the infirmary immediately and she had lain unconscious for 3 days before finally waking up.
Xavier was eager to find out what she was able to do with her powers and so was she but he decided that she needed to take some time to get acquainted with the school, some of the other X-Men and her new home before he pushed her into learning to use and control her powers. She had taken a few personal lessons with him in his study to practice using her force field but so far they were brief and she was always worn out afterwards. She found that these short practices left her far more drained of energy than the rigorous training her father had put her through.
This morning she found herself being cornered by Jubilee demanding that she go on a shopping trip. Jean was standing behind her with one of her ever present smiles that sort of gave Rae the creeps but she was also starting to find her mothering very comforting.
"C'mon, Rae. It will be F-U-N! We can look at shoes, maybe scope out some seriously cute underwear and I hear that they are having a killer sale at Hot Topic! You have, like, no clothes of your own and you can't keep borrowing all mine."
Rae looked down at the outfit that she had borrowed this morning. She was still a little unsure about the clothing people here on Earth wore. Back on Tar'lal she had generally worn her training leathers unless there was a special event taking place within her, or a nearby village, like a joining or battle banquet and then she would wear her dress leathers. The clothing on Earth were softer and she enjoyed the feeling against her skin but she also felt confined, like she wouldn't be able to move fast enough if under attack, when fully covered and preferred to keep herself as closely dressed in human clothing as she did at home. So, today she wore a green tank top with an image of a lizard-like creature Lee called "Kerropi", a short jean skirt and a pair of leggings but her feet were bare, just the way she liked them.
She wiggled her toes and looked up at Jubilee.
"But I don't wear shoes," she protested.
"Well, you HAVE to get something to put on your feet sooner or later. We will look at sandals then. C'mon!"
Rae looked around the kitchen hoping that Wolverine would walk in so she could shoot him a pleading look. In the two weeks since she has arrived, she had surprised herself on multiple occasions upon realizing that she was actively seeking him out. She wasn't sure why but she felt pulled towards him by an unseen force and it always seemed like he was there whenever she looked but this time he was missing.
As if she knew what Rae was thinking Jubilee put her one hand on her hip and pointed a finger at Rae,
"Wolvie isn't going to save you this time. He thinks you need to go shopping too. He said so himself," she cleared her throat and in a deep voice said, "'Jubilee, you need to get Rae out of the house and out of my hair. She's starting to drive me nuts. And she needs new clothes, too.'"
Rae's brows shot up, I'm driving him nuts?
"Jubilee!" Jean scolded.
"Alright, alright. He didn't really say that. Well, he kinda said that you needed to get out of the house and stuff. Get to know more about Earth besides just the school and stuff, ya know."
"Jubilee is right, Rae. You really should get off the school grounds and see more," Jean pressed.
Rae sighed, "Alright."
"YAY!" Jubilee cheered.
"I will get my coat." Jean said with a smile and left the kitchen.

Rae couldn't deny it, she had really enjoyed the shopping trip. Ororo had also joined them and despite the experience being different than any visit to a market on Tar'lal, Rae realized how much she was enjoying this strange new place, with its strange new things. Armed with a few bags full of clothing and a huge smile, she pushed through the front door and caught sight of Logan leaning against a wall, arms crossed over his chest,
"Gals took you shoppin', huh?" He raised his brows and nodded at the bags in Rae's arms.
"Of course, Wolvie," Jubliee answered, skipping up to him and dumping a load of bags into his arms "Help a lady with her bags?"
"I ain't yer damn butler," he growled but took the bags anyhow. "Yours too, darlin," he said to Rae.
Rae looked at the mass of bags Lee had already given him and shook her head,
"I can manage."
"Let the man carry your bags, Rae. It's one of the things they are good for." Jubilee placed one fist on her hip and pointed her finger at Rae.
"Carry yer own damn shit," Logan growled but didn't return the bags to Jubilee, instead he reached out and took some of the bags from Rae despite her protest. "I got it, darlin."
Rae reluctantly handed over a few of the bags and followed Jubilee up the stairs towards the dormitory. Jubilee started chatting to Wolverine about their shopping trip and he simply nodded with an occasional "uh huh" and "yup". He fell into step beside Rae,
"Have fun with the gaggle, darlin?" he asked her.
"Gaggle?" she tilted her head to the side, looking at him questioningly.
"Lady folk. Group of them...never mind," he shook his head seeing her confusion only grow.
"I did enjoy the shopping, yes. I purchased all sorts of wonderful things. I never knew that one could buy so many different items in one place," she beamed at him and he couldn't help but to smile back at her. Her smile was so infectious.
Rae loved it when Logan smiled at her. He very rarely smiled but when he did, it was a beautiful sight. Jubilee continued with her idle chatter ahead of them until they reached the top of the stairs. She stood there with her hands on her hips glaring down at Logan.
"Didja hear a word I said, Wolvie?"
"Huh? Sure, darlin'. Every word of it."
She raised an eyebrow at him and shook her head, “I said that you should let Rae train with you in the Danger Room. She kept talking about training and battles and other stuff. She hasn't had a chance to check stuff out in the Danger Room since she's been here. Bet she could use a good workout."
Train with Logan? I wonder how he is in battle. I haven't really done any real training since I've been here and my body is itching to hold a weapon.
Rae looked at Logan expectantly. He shrugged and grunted.
"Yeah, sure. Meet me tonight. 9 o'clock. Dress...wear something comfortable."
What are you getting yourself into, Logan? Are you even going to be able to concentrate with her around?
He shook his head, both girls standing there. He grunted again, "Where am I takin' this shit?" He gestured to the bags piled in his arms with his chin.
"My room first," Jubilee said pointedly, "I got new shoes I have gots to check out!"
Logan grunted again and followed her down the hall to the girl's dorms. Stopping at her door she opened it and pulled her stuff out of his arms, kissed his cheek with a thank you and shut the door.
Rae tilted her head at Logan and smiled, "I guess my room is next."
She turned and walked to the end of the hall. Rae opened her door and when she held out her hands to take the bags from him he stepped around her and into the room. He looked around the small room as he walked to the bed, dropping the bags on the bed. One of them fell off and landed upside down on the floor. He reached for it, the contents falling out as he picked it up.
"Hermmm," he scooped up the mess of lace and satin and held it up, quickly realizing was it was that he held in his hands. "Sorry," he muttered, quickly handing the wad of panties to Rae.
She simply shrugged, holding a pair up looking at them.
"I don't get it," she said, head cocking to the side. "Lee insisted that I get them. I don't understand the purpose of them. The material is practically see-through."
"Well, erm, they...uhhhh" Logan stammered. How the fuck am I supposed to explain this shit?!
"People on Tar'lal never wore undergarments such as these. I can't see how they would protect one on the battlefield." She looked to Logan, holding the panties out towards him, "What protective purpose do they serve? They just don't seem to be very practical."
"Darlin', I think you need to go have a chat with Jubilee. Far as I know, they serve no protective purpose but a different one," He started to develop a mental image of Rae wearing the pink and blue lace panties and cleared his throat. "I need to go," he started towards the door, "Don't forget about training."
Once in the hall he let out a big sigh. Damn that Jubilee.
**************************************
Logan avoided eye contact with Rae for the remainder of the day. Each time he looked at her he found his mind wandering to her wearing nothing but those panties and once 9 o'clock rolled around he started to wonder if them training together was going to be such a good idea.
Get it together, Logan, it's just a training session. You do this all the time with the rest of the ladies. Yeah, but none of them make you feel the way Rae does.
He shook his head as if the action would send the thoughts flying like drops of water.
It's just been two weeks! She's only been here two weeks...then why does it feel like you've known her your whole life?
When the door to the Danger Room opened and Rae walked in, he stiffened up. He hadn't had any training sessions with her before, Charlie had taken it upon himself to have her practicing force fields with just the two of them in his study and he knew that she had only done some jogging around the grounds. He was curious about what her skill level would be. Raised as a warrior since she could walk? Girl must have some skills then.
Rae swayed into the Danger Room, dressed in a traditional X-Men uniform of blue and gold, her feet bare as they always were when she could get away with it.
"Nice threads, darlin'," Logan commented, trying to distract himself from admiring the way the uniform hugged all of her curves.
Rae grimaced and pulled at the stretchy fabric.
"I don't know how I feel about this. I can see how it would allow for movement in battle but I fail to see how it will provide any protection when taking a hit. The material is far too light."
"I think that the point is to prevent from gettin' hit so you don't think about protection. And Chuck says you're getting better at them fields and those are going to be your protection. ‘Sides, those are made from tougher stuff than you would think."
She pulled at the fabric again before turning her face to him and smiling, "When you are ready, I am ready. What will we be training with today? Staffs or swords? I'm also quite adept with daggers so we can use those."
Logan raised his eyebrows, "Never thought about you needing a weapon. Think the Gumbo has an extra here somewhere."
He opened a locker hidden in a panel in the wall and pulled out a wooden staff made of a dark wood, the middle wrapped with a length of crimson fabric.
"Here, I don't think the Cajun will mind," he handed the staff to Rae who tested the balance and gave it a few swings.
"Yes," she nodded, "I think that this will do."
"Begin simulation: Wolverine 2."
BEGIN SIMULATION
"Watch yourself, darlin'. I like it fast and rough," he winked in her direction and she winked back.
She strikes a good picture dressed like that. Looks just like she belongs with the X-Men but let’s see how she fights. Damnit! Look at how fuckin’ great her tits look in that uniform. Focus, man!
Once the simulation began Rae found herself facing men dressed in robes and wielding swords. She couldn't understand, dodging an attack and whirling on the enemy with the staff, knocking him to his feet then driving the staff into his stomach, how they could move so fast with such flowing garments. A true fighter needed to remain unencumbered. She threw out a foot, catching another upside his head, sending him flying to the ground. She caught Logan out of the corner of her eye, surprised with the claws that had extended from the backs of his hands but not being too shocked by them. She had seen many strange powers from her fellow mutants, each power unique and interesting and Logan she found more unique and interesting than any of the others.
She had already learned that he had a very acute sense of smell and hearing compared to that of a normal human. Apparently her own senses were above that of a human as well but she had a feeling that Logan's were better yet. He also possessed a healing ability and it had apparently saved his life on far too many occasions to count when, by all accounts, he should have been dead. Apparently there were also a lot of mysteries to this strong and ferocious man who lacked the memories of most of his life. Rae found that she liked that about him, that he had pieces of his past that he didn't know about and maybe it was better that way. Having lived for 114 years she knew that there were things she wished she could also forget.
She continued to fight, her heart beating strong in her chest and sweat beading up along her brow. She found herself grateful for the borrowed uniform she wore, understanding now that the makeup of the material allowed the sweat to be pulled from her body, keeping her feeling comfortable. She held the staff true and sure in her hands; it was an extension of her body as well as her weapon of choice on Tar'lal. She jumped and twisted, avoiding oncoming attacks, reposting swords with staff, successfully unarming many of her foes with an agile twist or a well place strike across the hand or arm.
After a time she found herself fighting along Wolverine's side, guarding his back as he guarded hers. Their movements seemed to flow into each other, as if one could sense what the other was going to do next, like two dancers on stage. He would swing while she would duck, she would roll and he jump to the side, guarding her as she jumped back into position.
Finally, the simulation ended, leaving both of them standing there, panting.
"I gotta give you some credit, darlin', you fight with the best of them."
Rae twirled the staff around one last time before holding it out to Logan, "Thank you but I cannot take the credit. When you live on a world such as mine, training for battle is like breathing. This felt wonderful. It has been awhile since I have felt this good."
Logan shook his head at her, "Keep it. The Cajun will survive without it." He started to walk towards the door, "Let's say we call it a night, huh?"
He glanced behind him as he reached the door but found Rae hadn't moved. Instead she was doing what looked like a dance, thrusting and spinning the heavy wooden staff. It was as if an extension of her had been missing this whole time and was finally replaced. It was exhilarating as she blocked an imaginary foe then lunged with an attack. Logan leaned against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest and watched her.
She's amazing. She kept up with me during the whole simulation, not once stopping to take a break and she was as winded as I was at the end. Look how she moves, it's graceful and smooth but I saw how she was handling those warriors and without even using any powers. I wouldn't mind seeing what she is capable of once she has a handle on them.
Logan's eyes began to drift over her body, caressing the curves of her hips as she twisted around in the middle of the floor, admiring the strength of her arms as she held the staff tightly and swung it with precision. When he started to focus on the swell of her chest he decided that it was time to call a stop to her performance.
"Hey, darlin'," he called to her, breaking her from her revere.
She twisted the staff once more before jogging over to him, a bright smile on her face, her usually spikey beet colored hair plastered to her scalp.
"I'm thinkin' it's time to hit the showers now," he hit the door controls and it slid open.
Rae nodded and stepped out of the Danger Room and padded down the hall. Logan's eyes drifted to watch her round ass as she walked.
"Yeah....time to hit the showers. Probably a cold one."
