It had been nearly a half year and there was no sight or mention any where of The Punisher. Work was slow and Matt was fidgeting restlessly in his office chair.
Foggy sighed, “What is up with you lately?”
“Hm?”
“You are constantly out in la la land. Your head is out of the game, both as a lawyer and as Daredevil. And don’t tell me I’m wrong, because I know you’re coming back with more injuries.”
“I just got something going on.”
“Really? I would have never guessed.”
“Look, this is something I can’t really talk about, with you or anyone. Its too personal.”
“Look, I get it, you’re a big boy. But, you need to square this situation away. You’re going to start to loose customers and one of these days you aren’t going to be walking away from an injury.”
“Yeah, I know.”
He missed Frank. It was like a hole in the center of his chest. Aching and empty. And it was eating him alive. What if Frank was avoiding him because he thought that Matt had rejected him by not responding?
Later that night he went out in his Daredevil costume. It was nice to have the freedom to do his acrobatics across rooftops. Like normal, it didn’t take him long to find trouble.
A building had caught on fire, and by the sounds of it, two men were beating another in there. Matt dashed in, senses overwhelmed by the smoke and fire. He couldn’t get a good read on exactly where everyone was. A sharp sting overtook his shoulder. His arm was already numb, he reached over with his other hand and pulled the tranquilizer dart out. Fuck. He was dizzy and his head was spinning. Someone was attacking him, He put his arms up to block the knife that was coming down at him. Bad idea, he was fairly sure he was cut really bad, but was so numb he couldn’t tell for sure. He fell to the ground and it seemed like a really long time till his face hit the floor.

Frank went out for the night, complete in his Punisher attire. The night was humid and busy. It had been a long time since he had been this close to Matt. But, he had to come back, he had to meet one of his arms dealers.
Besides, he had a few different observation missions for the night and had expected a relatively easy night that would avoid Matt. He was about to retire for the night when a building three down from the one he was set ablaze. Of course he would normally check it out, but he nearly ran like his life was dependent on it. Like he was panicked. Instinct had gotten him through life, and his instinct was screaming at him to jump into the burning building. He couldn’t breathe and his skin felt like it was smoldering. After a few moments he found a crumpled up figure laying a red pool of blood. Barely recognizable in the smoke, but surely Daredevil. He scooped the hero up and dashed out of the fire. He was gasping for air by the time he got out. Matt was pressed tight to his chest, wheezing, but steel breathing.
Matt was in bad shape. Sure, he could have found someone to take care of Matt, but he didn’t. He took Matt back to his apartment. The truth was, there were too many crooked people who would sell out Matt’s identity. Matt already had enough problems keeping his identity a secret.
He laid Matt out on a table and got his first aid kit. The mask, gloves and boots were the first things to go. The costume was beyond repair, so he pulled out a pair of scissors and started cutting from under Matt’s chin. He continued down the torso and right leg, then repeated it down the left leg and down the arms. Some areas were hard to pull off where the blood had started to coagulate. Once he was stripped, Frank got a warm bowl of water and towels, cleaning up as much of the blood, dirt and soot off of him so he could assess the wounds.
Matt had a head injury that was still bleeding quite well, but that was normal for a head injury. So, he cleaned the wound out and bandaged it. The rest of his body was covered in bruises and scrapes, but it only appeared he needed stitches on his shoulder, chest and forearm. When he was done, it totaled 38 stitches, 4 boxes of gauze and a couple rolls of sterile wrap. He got a pair of his boxers, they might be a little bit big, but should fit well enough. It was awkward getting them on, but he managed. Frank got a few full sized towels and laid them out on his bed incase Matt bled through his bandages. Matt’s breathing had evened out and Frank scooped him up and laid him out on one side of the king sized bed
Frank showered quickly and went back with a bottle of water to check on Matt. “Matt?” He gently shook his shoulder.
Matt’s eyes fluttered open, “Hello?” He was clearly panicked.
Frank sat down and held Matt’s hand, “Hey, I’m right here, it’s me, Frank.”
“Frank?” Matt croaked, tears forming at the corner of his eyes.
Frank was a bit taken back at the Matt’s reaction, maybe he shouldn’t have brought him back to his place. “Do you think you can drink some water?” Matt nodded and Frank opened the bottle of water and put a straw in it, guiding it to Matt’s lips, “Just drink slow.”
Matt took a sip, seeming to test it out, then continued to drink it until it was gone, “Thank you.”
“Sure,” Frank guided Matt to lay back down.
Matt relaxed back into the pillow, “Are you going to stay here?”
“Yeah, I got to make sure you’re ok.” It didn’t take long for Matt to nod off to sleep. Frank was at a loss what to do with Matt. Matt’s battered body was nestled in his bed like he belonged there. He laid down on the other side of the bed and watched his former bedmate sleep.
It all came back to how stupid he was, not able to keep his mouth in check.

Frank woke with a start, trying to figure out what was going on. Matt was tucked close against him, Matt’s head on his chest. Frank looked around and he was still in the exact same spot he fell asleep in, so this definitely wasn’t his doing. He tried to inch away, but Matt whined.
Matt felt so perfect against him. It had been so long. He didn’t realize how much he missed him. He could deal with their ‘relationship’ another time, but for now Matt needed to heal and was nice to have him here.

Straight up, Matt was in pain when he woke up. But, it barely phased him, he was so happy to be with Frank again. His fingers worked up Frank’s arm, recalling all the scars he knew so well and noting the new ones that crossed the olds ones he must have acquired since they were last together.
Frank’s heartbeat was picking up as he woke up, “Mmm, Matt,” Frank’s voice was deep and soft against his ear.
“I was wondering when you were going to wake up.”
“You are supposed to be resting.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I missed you too much,” Matt noted how Frank’s heart beat sped up.
Frank pulled himself away and sat up, “Matt, we can’t do this any more.”
Matt really couldn’t think of anything that could have crushed him worse, “What? Why?!”
Frank sat for a long while, head hung, “Matt, you need to find someone better for you. I’m a lost cause, you know that.”
Matt couldn’t keep his voice steady, “You don’t get to decide that for me. This is about what you said last time we were together, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, it is.”
That sinking feeling had turned into anger quickly, “What? You get scared and ditch the only good thing I had in my life?”
Frank scoffed, “Good? You’re telling me that the handful of times we spend together a year is the best thing in your life?”
“Yes.”
“Your life must really suck.”
“Yeah, that is the whole point, Frank. My life fucking sucks, you are the only thing I look forward to. And don’t you dare tell me you feel any different.”
“Look, you mean more to me than anything, Matt. But, I can’t do this, I can’t risk your life. I can’t have you get hurt because my judgment is cloudy when it comes to you.”
“Do you honestly think that you put me in any more danger than I am already in?” Frank was silent. “Please, don’t do this.” He awkwardly sat up and swung a leg over Frank’s lap, straddling him. He just clung to him a long while, their bodies melting together. After a few minutes, Frank’s arms wrapped around him and he pressed his face into the crook of Matt’s neck. “You are such a stubborn ass.”
Frank chuckled, “You’re the one who wants me.”
Matt held him tighter, “Yeah, I am.”

Foggy beamed from ear to ear when he seen Matt, “How are you?”
Matt smiled and clapped Foggy on the back, “I’m doing good.”
“You still have someone lined up that can check him out and make sure he’s ok?” Frank asked.
Foggy looked up at the intimidating vigilante, “I’m sure it would have been better if he could have seen a doctor before now, but yes, I’m taking him there now.”
Frank nodded and looked over at Matt. Foggy wasn’t exactly sure what it was. But there was some sort of unspoken exchange between them. He started walking away and Matt followed.
“Matt,” Frank’s voice was low and Foggy couldn’t figure out if it was a question or request. He watched as Matt turned towards Frank, they were silent and still for a long moment, until Frank closed the space between them in three long strides. It took his mind a while to catch up to what he was seeing. Frank’s hands were cupping Matt’s face and Matt’s arms had slipped inside Franks leather coat and around his waist, pulling them close. He felt like he shouldn’t be watching them, but couldn’t pull his eyes away. Frank’s hands went around to the back of Matt’s head, lacing into Matt’s hair. Matt tilted his face up, a smile played across Matt’s lips. Something Foggy rarely seen. And it wasn’t just a smile, It was the most carefree expression he had ever seen on Matt’s face. Like there was nothing more important than the man he was holding onto. Frank wasn’t exactly smiling, more of a mild smirk as their lips met.
And this was starting to get extraordinarily awkward watching the intimate exchange. Weren’t they enemies who tolerated each other? By the intensity of the kiss, he was going to have to assume they were more like lovers who disagreed on the death penalty. Frank broke the kiss and whispered something in Matt’s ear, Matt let out a half hearted laugh and buried his face into Frank’s chest.
“You have an appointment to get to,” Frank stepped away from Matt.
“Yeah, I do.” Matt walked back to Foggy, “We should get going.”
Foggy tried to process the whole thing and stayed silent for as long as he could while they walked, “So…you and The Punisher, huh?”
A deep blush spread across Matt’s cheeks, “Yeah.”
“You know, I don’t think-”
Matt cut him off, “I don’t need any unsolicited advice.”
“What I was going to say is, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you happier. What happened?”
Matt just smiled and shook his head.

A week later…
Matt was sitting in his office, prepping for a couple upcoming cases when Frank’s heart beat caught his attention. Frank came in and locked the door.
“What do I owe this visit to?” Matt cocked his head and smiled.
“Well, I heard from a little birdie that you got your stitches removed yesterday.”
“Really? I think that bird needs it’s wings clipped.”
“He also cleared your schedule for the rest of today and tomorrow.”
“Oh?”
Frank had him backed against his desk, forcing him to sit on it. His hands were busy unfastening Matt’s belt.
Matt held Frank’s face and brought their faces close, “Say it.”
“I love you, Matthew Michael Murdock.”
