Kate had woken up alone in a darkened room to pain pounding in her shoulder and arm. She gasped for air as the agony attacked in pulses. Perhaps adjusting her position would lessen the pain, she thought, and eased herself up. She recognized the room from earlier, and as time went on she remembered the events leading right up to her waking. Again she winced at the pain and decided to investigate, pulling the blue johnny down to see what had caused it to be so frequent. Bandages, gauze-tape, and more bandages blocked the sight of her injury from her, but she had noticed the blue tint of her skin had retreated almost completely under the bandages. She breathed a sigh of relief, but as she went to draw in another breath, the air didn't come, and she recognized the sensation.
Steam clouds rose up from around her and water splashed up from the floor. In front of her was Kurt, his back to her, showering, "Fuck?!" she gasped as she touched her hand to the glass door. Kurt turned around, momentarily taken aback by surprise. "I believe you have me at a disadvantage-" he paused, "Kate." She gave him a questioning look. "I bet you were expecting something cute in German," he laughed and put an arm on the wall behind her. Her body stiffened as he leaned closely, blocking her only exit. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. She was wrestling with the urge to look down. Not that she particularly wanted to see him, but it crossed her mind if it was blue too. "I, ah...." she patted the glass and avoided eye contact, "need to go..." "You don't just get to see me in the shower and take off, liebling." his accent thickened with the last word. His lips curled up at the corners, and his eyes seemed more evil than before. "I-I don't?" she shivered, despite the steam. He looked at her in the eyes and touched between her breasts with the back of his fingers. He traced her curves slowly up by her neck, and then brushed her jaw-line with the tips. Her body shuddered but she did her best to look up at the ceiling. "I don't think this- I don't- don't want to be here." "Don't you?" he purred, running a finger across her lips. She parted her mouth and drew in a sharp breath, "Why else would you be here?" "I honestly didn't even know about here until I got here," she pressed her cheek against the tiled wall and closed her eyes. He pulled back from her, and shut the water off. She opened her eyes to the feeling of cool air rushing in. He had stepped out on the other side of the glass wall and wrapped a towel around his waist. He turned to look back at her, "If you stay in there too long, your fingers will get pruney." He gave her a smile and a headache. Like a flip of a switch, his demeanor had changed and he was more buddy-buddy than whatever he had been five seconds ago. She stepped out, keeping her distance. "What are you?" she asked, unable to suppress her curiosity with fear any longer. He stared at her for a moment, sizing up her intent behind the question, "Soll ich euch allein lassen?" Her brows furrowed, "nein, das ist-" she stopped herself. His ears perked up and he leaned her up against the wall and studied her for a moment. "Your eye is green again-" he sighed. "Hazel" she corrected him, annunciating it to ensure it was in English. He looked again and smiled, "Ach," he bonked himself on the forehead with his palm, "You are right." With that he gave a dramatic bow and teleported out of the bathroom, leaving the smokiness to mingle with the steam. ___________ She was not so fortunate to be able to check out of a situation on command. She was in a strange place, with a thin wet sheet of an excuse of a Johnny, and slightly tense from the situation that just occurred. She pressed her palms on the door and opened it slowly, peering out the crack only to find darkness on the other side. She let the door open all the way, allowing the light to flood the dark. Yellow orbs appeared off to the side and Kurt stepped into the light. "What took you so long?" he questioned, playfully impatient. She retreated into the bathroom and closed the door. No more Kurt for a little while she told herself, at least until she had cooled off. She put her back to the door and no sooner did she think it was over she teleported back out into the room. Kurt was on his bed, propping up his head with his hands. He turned his head sideways and she looked down, noticing the thin barrier between her and him was clinging across her body. She crossed her arms and looked up to glare at him, but he was gone. She looked behind herself, then back to the bed, and behind again. Convinced he had gone, she let her guard down momentarily and turned around only to be nose to nose with luminescent yellow eyes. Her first instinct was to fight, so she threw an arm at him and he enclosed her fist in his hand. The other arm followed and met the same fate. "If it doesn't work the first time, it won't work the second," he chided, wrapping the words in his accent. "It isn't my doing, is it?" she asked, trying to break him from his playfulness. "It can be all me, if you'd like," he pinned an arm over her head and left the injured one to do as it wished. He leaned close to her face and nestled his mouth near her ear, "I am going to think of a number from 1 to 1,000, and if you can guess it right, I'll be a gentlemen, and if you guess wrong, I'll be..... a gentlemen," he pulled away and walked ahead of her. Between the bathroom and the room he must have gotten dressed because he was wearing a pair of loose sweatpants and a grey t-shirt when he walked out into the hallway. He motioned for her to follow him and she slowly did, as if he were leading her to her execution. She was led once again to the room she had first appeared, but this time the man in the wheel chair sat behind a desk. He backed himself up and came around the desk to greet her, "Ms. Leander? If I may, “He extended a hand and she took it, “I am Professor Charles Xavier and as you may have guessed, this is a very special place for gifted individuals." He directed her attention behind her to Kurt. She rolled her eyes and faced Xavier again. "This is the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning, and it is a sanctuary for mutants who wish to learn to control their abilities, or in danger of harming themselves or others. I want to extend an invitation to you, in which you are most welcome to stay here and safely learn to control your new abilities." She cut him off, "Yeah, I don't think they are mine to control, no offense'" "None taken," his eyes fixated on her, waiting for her to continue. "I only 'pop-up' where he is.... ONLY where he is... because I can tell you I had no desire to leave Massachusetts today." "Today?" Kurt snickered. "You came here from Massachusetts," Xavier inquired, intrigued. "Uh, that's what I said." He turned his attention to Kurt, "Now Kurt, correct me if I am wrong, but you teleport up to two-miles, if I am not mistaken," Kurt nodded in response, "so I find it quite incredible to find you have gone over 400 miles to get here." "I didn't do it willingly," she added, her annoyance apparent in her tone. He closed his eyes, as if something came over him, and returned his focused to a confused SydneyKate. "And you spontaneously spoke German?" his interest and amusement was all over his face. "No! What is this? Did you have a pow-wow after the shower?" she shouted. "Kate," Xavier's voice attempting to deter her building hostility, "I am going to ask you to do something, and you need to say the first thing that comes to your mind without thinking about it" She rolled her eyes and folded her arms. "Like Kurt had asked earlier, choose a number, from 1-1000, now-" "394" she replied, only then remember Kurt had demanded the same thing. He sat back in his chair, lacing his fingers in front of his mouth, “You share telepathy with Kurt?" the question was redundant "Well, I don't want to share anything with that, that, demon!" She pointed at him like a thing. Kurt's feelings showed on his face for a moment, but he shot back, "Last I checked, fraulein, you and I were starting to bear a resemblance. ” "Over my dead body!" she yelled back, grabbing a vase off of a side-table and whipping it at Kurt. Kurt teleported behind her and wrapped an arm over both of hers, pinning them to her side. The door opened and Beast had walked in with the same puzzled look from earlier. He waited to get her attention, "You may get your wish." He took his glasses off and rubbed his temples. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
