Disclaimer: Really guys, if I owned X-Men, I wouldn't be writing this :P It'd be a graphic novel. Silly. As it stands, I may no money off of this writing and do not seek to. |
Chapter 2. Stripped.
There she was again, in that ghostly camp, all still and silent. Again, the spotlight swerved to pierce her, blinding her, and the crowds returned, the black shapes, calling to her, pointing fingers in accusation. She struggled, as she always did, but it was hopeless, the black arms dragging her into the shadowy abyss, until she appeared bound to the post again, the firing squad taking aim. She didn't do it! She screamed. She didn't kill them! She struggled and tugged at her restraints, screaming her innocence, begging for mercy, and then the shots rang out. This was where her dream always ended, but not tonight. After the last gun shot, all was black, as if she were blinded. Her own breathing was all she could hear. Minutes passed, and she was aware of a faint tingling in her stomach. Struggling weak, she tried to see, but her eyes were blinded by something, cold and heavy. The sensation in her stomach intensified, becoming a slow burn, and then, something moved, jamming a knife into her, cutting her open. She couldn't move, couldn't even draw a breath to scream, as someone reached inside of her and pulled something out. She inhaled deeply, holding that breath, wanting to let it out, but it stuck in her throat. This time, she woke not with a start, but subtly, like she didn't even realize the dream had ended. She couldn't see, but the room was dark, and she was aware that she was holding her breath still. Releasing it, she sat up, leaning an elbow on her one raised knee, letting the drowsiness wear off. Her orange eyes were adjusting quickly to the darkness, and she could see she was in the Institutes Medical Bay. Gradually, the changes with her body came to light, and she realized her crust was gone. Flexing her three long digits in her lap, she tried to bring it back, to form some new crust on her skin, but nothing happened. Her hand brushed the stitches on her stomach. Someone had operated on her in her sleep. The burns were gone, as was the scar from the surgery. Using her claws to pick the stitches out, she pushed off of the bed, claws clicking on the tiles. Looking around, she saw that she was alone, and was grateful. Only vague, feverish dreams remained of her episode, but she could recall enough. If she had hurt any of the students, she would never have forgiven herself. She should have gone to the Professor sooner. Sniffing the air, she turned with a growl, relaxing when she recognized the shape of Puzzle in the doorway. "Ah, your awake... are you feeling alright Minerva?" He did not flinch at her defensiveness, and for this she was grateful. It was hard to get over some of her more beastial instincts. Slumping back onto the bed, she rubbed her temple with one long finger. "A headache, but I'm more concerned with the students. Did I..." She didn't want to voice her concerns aloud, and Puzzle saved her shame, shaking his head. "All fine. Miss Conwick is drained, but will recover in a day or so" She relaxed visibly, letting out a breath, her large hand feeling her stomach again. She didn't need to ask, Puzzle moving in to hand her a sheet of X-Rays. Even in the dark she could see it clearly. A fist sized chunk of something had rested just below her rib cage, vaguely hexagonal, though it seemed warped. Watching the page, a brief memory flashed, of a dark room, similar X-Rays pinned up on lit board. "The hell is this thing? Why was it in me?" Puzzle sat down next to her, cautiously. "Charles took it apart while you rested. It was filled with an unknown substance, though he found traces of what seems like a variant of Adamantium inside of it. It shares enough of its make up to make a connection, but he couldn't be entirely sure" Another memory, of being blinded, suspended in something, naked and cold. All her skin burnt, stomach pulsing with heat. The memory passed with a distant sound of breaking glass and rushing water, her own feral snarl louder then anything, even as the flash back faded. Shaking her head, she tried to grasp at the memory, to find any detail, but it all slipped from her finger tips like sand. "Was it somehow related to my crust production?" When Puzzle nodded, she rose to her feet, not caring that she was naked. "Where is it?" Puzzle blinked, watching her, her new found determination some what frightening in its suddenly. "What are you going to do Minerva?" He wrapped the sheet around her from behind. "No idea, but I'm borrowing the X-Jet"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
