Chapter 3, New Friends, New Enemies
A few weeks had passed since the Australian had moved into his room and promptly adopted the role of older sister. At school and the Institute, even around Bayville, he was never far, following behind her, usually carrying her shopping or school books or hurrying ahead to do something for her. It made her smile whenever he did so, and when his clones popped up to help, she couldn't resist biting her nail in thought, a devious smirk on her face. Since he had started hanging out with her, his confidence was growing. He talked more, even though he was still a bit shy around new people, and she didn't have to drag him out of the Institute for a mall day or to play a game with the other Mutants. He had even made a friend at school, and was relieved to find he was at the Institute as well. Not having to hide his powers made it that much easier to relax around him. Ian was a head and some above him, but then again, almost everyone was at least that much bigger then him. The boy had fair skin, prone to burning in the sun, cheeks speckled with brown dots and an unruly mop of ginger hair, draping down to his shoulder blades. Bright green eyes, always filled with energy, accented his cheeky grin, the ripped knees of his jeans a testament to his almost constant sugar high, long sleeved baggy green shirt sporting the shadow of a gravel and grass stain that didn't ever seem to wash completely out. It was partially covered by the short sleeved blue and white flannel that he wore loose and unbuttoned on top, faded and ruffled from the years of abuse it took. His sneakers were in no better condition. He almost suspected Elise of setting them up together... Ian's personality was rubbing off on him, and there had already been a few incidents where he had narrowly avoided sitting outside the principals office next to him. This was all still so new to him, but he couldn't deny he was happier now, even if he was still a bit confused and quiet. "Come on Rhaimy! Bells already gone!" He yelled, sneakers squeaking on the floors, Rhaimy panting as he tried to keep up. How Ian had so much energy, all the time, might forever remain a mystery to him. "Slow down!" He panted, trying to heft his school bag onto his shoulder as he rounded the corner... and slammed right into him. Ian had stopped and then taken the full brunt of Rhaimy's barge, sending them both forward and into a pile, taking someone down with them. When Rhaimy had hit the floor, four clones had spontaneously appeared, rolling on the floor, dazed and winded. When he realized, he quickly willed them away, hoping no one noticed... and then, realizing who they had tackled into, he yelped and grabbed Ian, pulling him as he crawled back. Sitting on the floor, covered in strawberry milk, a crushed carton in her hand, was Teagan Baige. The tall girl had arms like a boxer, lean and thick with muscles, black Lycra covering her shapely legs, large chest making the simple plain white T-shirt bulge. The milk had stained her top, which clung to her and gave a view of her bra, short blond hair sticking to her face, bangs dripping. She glared at them, bright blue eyes practically burning, gritting her teeth and growling as she pushed to her feet. "You... just spilled my milk" She clenched her strong fists, the fingerless MMA gloves tensing, toned shoulders squared. Before they could move, she lashed out and grabbed both of them by the collars of their shirts, lifting them easily off of their feet. Rhaimy yelped but froze up, shaking, while Ian kicked and squirmed, an endless tumble of apologies. "Save it door stop! Your both guna cough up every penny ya got to pay for this" She yanked them close, practically nose to nose, eye eyes flashing a bright purple for a second... it was clear now that she was like them. "If I find any of that milk got into my Sound Breaker, not even your friends at the Freak Club are guna be able to help you..." She growled menacingly, her eyes going bright purple, hair seemingly lifting in an unfelt breeze, her fists lighting up, the light traveling down her arms. "Ahem..." Someone behind her cleared her throat, Teagan freezing, the light dimming. "Is there a problem here Miss Baige?" Grunting, she dropped them both onto the floor and cracked her knuckles. "No problem Teach... was just heading home for a change of clothes" She flashed one last fiery gaze at them and then walked past them, revealing the Vice Principal, Miss Valance. Wearing the typical conservative grey suit and dark stocking and heels, she wore her blond hair bound back into a neat ponytail. She pushed her black glasses up and peered at them both with her brown eyes. "You two hurry off to class now. Try not to run into anyone else..." He had made Ian promise not to tell Elise. He didn't want her to worry or get involved... though the guilt began to set in an hour or so afterwards, and when the last bell rang, his head was drooping to watch his feet. As he walked silently beside Ian past the car park outside the school, he heard his friend whistle and nudge his shoulder. "Dude, check it out" When he looked up, he felt his stomach twist. Elise was striding towards them, wearing her same set of trusty black grunge pants and boots, but her old top had been replaced with a new shirt, sleeveless and red, a small black heart over her left breast, a new dark, long sleeved overcoat tossed over it, left unbuttoned, the sleeves bound by Velcro for quick removal. Her long brown hair had been straightened and brushed, falling down to her lower back, the one bleached length falling neatly over her new see-through red glasses. When she saw Rhaimy's reaction, she smirked, as if he had just confirmed something for her. "Yeah, this is why I was away today. Ya like?" She adjusted the new glasses, giving a twirl so the new coat and hair could fan out for him to see. When she had finished, and saw that same blank, dumb struck expression, she just giggled and circled behind them, slipping her arms around both of their shoulders, leading them. "Come on boys, lets grab a burger before we head home" Rhaimy was quiet for the entire trip, letting Ian do all of the talking, which he was usually inclined to, picking at the fries as they cut across the park. He stole a sneaky glance up at her, but she caught him, giving him the smirk, as if to clarify that yes, she knew he just peeked. Blushing, he looked away... and then, his shoulders hunched, brain telling him to panic. Teagan was running laps, her headphones dangling from her ears. She hadn't seen them yet, Rhaimy piping up from Elise's side. "Uhm, can we... can we cut through the trees?" The both of them gave him a look, Elise perking an eyebrow curiously at him. "It's... quicker..." Her eyebrow only arched further, concerned at the way he looked up at her, pleading with her. Even Ian had gone silent, and that was enough to make her worried. Silently, she steered them to the shady copse of trees, and the second they were out of sight, she turned and crossed her arms, giving them a stern look. "Okay, you've been quiet since I picked you up... even by your standards. You two wanna tell me what's happening or what?" Ian crossed his arms behind his back and shuffled his foot, Rhaimy tensing his scrawny shoulders and looking guiltily at the ground, mumbling. "I didn't want you to worry Elise..." Tilting her head, now genuinely worried, she got down on one knee and placed her hands on both of their shoulders, making them look at her. "What don't you want me to worry about?" "Me" Growled Teagan as she stepped into the shadowy copse of trees, smirking and cracking her knuckles, eyes flaring with purple fire. "They're worried about me"While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
