Fall of Angels
Kalina Blue Star
Chapter Two
It was getting late and Caitlyn was worried. They had been at the hotel for three hours, two and a half of them were spent down in the mini med lab. Who would have thought that they would be spending time their first night there. Isabella was laying in a coma, with moniters beeping around the bed to let them know that she was alive. She had also substained several broken bones and a pierced spleen from her fall into the cement. All the other minor injuries that they obtained had been treated by Malina, who was now sitting by Isa's bedside, urging her to wake up. Andais had spent a hour at the most probing the unconscious girl's mind, to see if there was something she could do. All that the blonde could tell Caitlyn was that Isabella was still mentally there, just in a vegatable state. Malina gave her a seventy-five percent chance of waking up that night, but the percentage would go down with each passing day that Isa stayed in the coma.
Devastated by this news, most of the girls split their time between sitting by their comrade's bed or wondering around the hotel like someone died. Caitlyn had just been relieved from her stint of watching by Tianna and headed to the commication center, knowing that she had to inform Professor Xavier of the bad news. Meredith followed, lending her silent support. The two women took seats at the comm station and Caitlyn just stared blankly at it. Meredith nudged her friend, "Hey, Cait...want me to dial them up?"
Caitlyn was jerked from her train of thought where she mentally was beating herself up for getting Isabella hurt. It never dawned on her that it wasn't her fault, that there was nothing she could have done. Meredith and Andais tried to warn her of the danger, but Isabella, being headstrong just ignored them. The redhead slowly raised her head and gazed at her friend, "Huh? Oh no, I can do it. Its my responsibility, I'm the leader. So...here goes nothing."
Her fingers flew over the keyboard as she dialed up a connection that was secure and contacted the Institute. She leaned back, watching as the connection went through. Bobby Drake's face filled the screen after a minute and she stared blankly up at him, not knowing what to say. Bobby knew the minute he saw Caitlyn's face that something was wrong, it was too solemn, filled with failure. At Meredith's nudge, the redhead spoke, "Bobby, is the Professor there? I need to speak to him. We've had some trouble."
Bobby shook his head slowly, "I'm sorry Cait, but he's using Cerebro and asked to not be disturbed, do you want me to get Jean or Scott?"
She shook her head in response, "No, but thanks Bobby."
"Caitlyn, what kind of trouble did you have?" he asked quietly.
She sucked in her breath, fighting back the tears that wanted to fall, "It's bad Bobby. Isabella is hurt, in a coma with broken ribs, and a leg. She also has a pierced spleen."
"Christ. Listen I'm going to go and get Jean and Hank ok. Just hang on a second ok." he said, pushing away from his console. She waited, looking at Meredith with heartbroken eyes.
"Meredith, I never should have agreed to this. Here we are, not even here for twenty four hours and already someone is hurt. Its all my fault. I should have taken more time to come up with a better strategy. Maybe if I had been faster getting to the battle, hadn't been thinking back, I could have prevented Isabella from being hurt. I should have been better."
Meredith opened her mouth to talk some sense into her when another voice was heard, "Caitlyn, you couldn't have known."
Both women turned to see Jean on the screen, looking worried, "In any battle things happen, things you can't prevent. You could have been hurt instead of Isabella, or someone else. When you are in command, some decisions will get people hurt. You can very rarely enter a battle and everyone walk out uninjured. Understand?"
Caitlyn nodded slowly, trying to come to terms with it, "I understand Jean."
"Good, now tell me everything that happened." Jean said with a nod.
Caitlyn took a breath and launched into the story on how they were on the way to the hotel when Finn picked up on strong mutant danger around the area of Sunset. How they raced to the scene to stop them. The details of the fight and Isabella's injuries seemed to pour out of her mouth, she was able to describe everything without thinking about it, she had gone over the same scenerio multiple times over the past few hours to see if she could have done something different. The only thing she left out was Wulf's kiss and Meredith kept her mouth shut about it. When she finished, she looked at Jean imploringly, "So now what?"
"When the Professor gets done with Cerebro I'll tell him everything you have told me. If he has any instructions for you then he'll contact you. For now, I suggest you keep a close eye on Isabella. If her condition worsens, get ahold of Hank or myself and we will make arrangements to transport her here for more advanced care. When she awakens, keep her under observation for several days. Don't let her fight until the bones are fully healed, even if she insists. And I would suggest that you guys keep a low profile for a few days. Try to avoid all contact with V-Force unless is is completely inavoidable. I believe the Professor is trying to find more information that will help you. Should he, I would expect that information within the next twenty four hours." Jean said.
"Alright Jean, thanks. We'll be in contact in a few days to let you know our status." Caitlyn said. Jean said her own goodbye and both cut the connection. Caitlyn turned to Meredith and sighed "Well you heard Jean, stick close to the hotel for the next few days."
Meredith shook her head, "Yeah like your going to listen to Jean. I don't know why Scott stays with her, she's too cautious. Your not going to be able to stick around here, within a day your going to want to get out. As big as the hotel is, your still going to feel caged."
"Will not. I intend on listening to Jean. The last thing I want to happen is someone else to get hurt." Caitlyn protested softly.
"Cait, face it, its your nature. You can't stand be being caged. Its the predator in you. There's no point in denying it."
Caitlyn growled in frustration, knowing her friend was right. Even now she wanted to get out, to do something instead of pacing around here, feeling useless. She pushed away from the console and stood up, "Your probably right. But if I do go out, it will be by myself. I won't risk getting anyone else hurt until we know exactly what we are dealing with."
Meredtih stood with a laugh, "As if you could keep me from going with you. And don't even bothering making it a order cause I wouldn't listen and you know it."
"Yeah I know but I'll have to try you know. Better example for everyone else. Meredith, can you find Finn and ask him to sit with Isabella so that Tianna can join us as I let everyone know whats going to be going on the next few days?"
"Sure...meet you in the lobby?" Meredith said as Caitlyn nodded. Both women walked out of the comm center and headed in different directions. While Meredith was talking to Finn and getting Tianna, Caitlyn was talking to Andais, who had mentally summoned everyone else. Within five minutes, all the girls plus Duncan were gathered in the lobby. Caitlyn motioned for everyone to find a seat and she waited while they did that before speaking. She gazed at each of them, noting the dejected looks that seemed to be on everyone's face. Even though they had come out on top in the fight, Isabella's injuries brought moral down to the point that it didn't existed. She would have to say something that would bring it back up. Meaning a heart stirring speech, something she was never good at.
Taking a breath, she began, "As you all know we had our first encounter with V-Force. And while they hurt us, we hurt them more. We took out two of them, while they only temporaily stopped one of us. I believe with all my heart, Isabella will make a full recovery. She is strong and stubborn, she's not going to let something little like this keep her down."
Tianna sniffed back her tears and glared at Caitlyn, "How can you call a coma little? She may not wake up. She could be in a coma for the rest of her life. Thats not little."
Caitlyn let her rant, knowing that getting it all out was the best thing to do. When Tianna stopped for a breath, she gazed cooly at her, "It could be worse."
"How could it be worse?" Tianna said bitterly.
"She could be dead." Cait said bluntly.
Tianna paled and buried her head in Aurbie's shoulder crying softly. Krysta glared firebolts, not literally, at her sister and snapped, "How could you be so harsh? I thought you cared."
"You don't think I care? I care more than you can imagine, Krysta. However, you all agreed that I was the best choice to be the leader of this group because I could deal with situations like this. So I throw the truth out on the table because I have to not because I like to. Don't you ever accuse me of not caring Krysta when you don't understand a thing thats going on in my head. Everyone needs to understand this, you will not make it out of any battle unhurt. You will have wounded, maybe even fatalities. It is just a fact of life that we have to learn to accept. And as far as I am concerned, we did a damn good job. We went into this fight blind, not knowing what could happen, without knowing the enemy as well as I would like. And only one of us was seriously injured, and she'll make it. We scored a victory. Lets not forget that." Caitlyn said, pausing to take a breath.
Duncan looked at her confused while Meredith and Andais looked proud. Even Malina and KeLyssa looked revived when they grasped that Caitlyn was right. Krysta sulked while Tianna wiped her eyes and Aubrie smiled brightly. Duncan held up a hand, "Luv, how do you consider it a victory, they ran."
Caitlyn smiled slyly, "They ran because they were scared. Before it was just Finn and yourself fighting them. They weren't expecting nine fresh, skilled and highly trained young women to join you. We caught them offguard, even if it was a one shot deal. And because they ran, they have no idea what we are all fully capable of. I know these ladies, and I know how much ass they can kick. The fight might have been brief, but Andais and Finn observed it all from behind. Because of that, they were able to note how they fought, how they reacted to certain attacks. Andais, when this is over, get Finn and the two of you use one of the computers to log what you found. I'll go over it later. With this information and more we will get, I'll be able to devise strategies, with some help, that will avoid anyone else getting hurt. The Professor said we would be working from scratch and we are. So lets show him and the others that they didn't make a mistake picking us."
By the time she was finished, everyone was smiling. Meredith sent Caitlyn a thumbs up and the redhead smiled gratefully. She waited to for their attention to be focused on her again, "Now, I have contacted the Institute to let them know our status. I wasn't able to talk to Professor Xavier but I did talk to Jean. She said she would relay my message to the Professor, but advised us to keep a low profile. Which means no one can leave the hotel for a few days unless its for something important, like guest pick up or something dealing with the management and upkeep of Gallagher's Hotel. Lets not forget that our stay here is a free ride."
Her words had a immediate effect as several of them, mainly KeLyssa, Krysta and Tianna, protested loudly. Krysta crossed her arms under her breast and complained, "I bet you won't stay. You and Meredith will go out tonight clubbin'."
Tianna agreed, "Yeah thats not fair, if you two can go out, then the rest of us should too."
"Caitlyn, you can't keep us here, we can leave if we want." KeLyssa said rebelliously.
Caitlyn arched a slender eyebrow, "Want to bet? You three are the youngest, meaning that while we are out here, anyone older than you is the boss. And unless are on a mission, you three will have a eleven o'clock curfew on the weekends and a ten o'clock curfew during the week. Andais will take over your schooling, so you won't be behind when we get back to the institute."
Krysta looked scandalized when she learned she would still have school and a curfew, "That bites ass."
Meredith laughed, "Oh to be a teenager again."
Aubrie giggled, "I don't know why you are complaining. Those are the same rules you had to follow at the Institute."
"I still say you can't stop us if we want to go out." said KeLyssa bitterly, testing the limits.
Caitlyn narrowed her eyes at her youngest sister, "If...and there will be no second chances on this...you break the rules, you will be sent home to the Institute and I will ask the Professor to send someone else to take your spot."
"You wouldn't." gasped Tianna, looking horrified.
"I would and will. Those rules are non-negotiable. You either stay and follow them or I'll call Logan or Remy and ask them to come and get you, bringing me my replacements. And see the thing is, I don't want to lose you, cause your a great asset to this team. But if I have to I will." Caitlyn said, looking at each girl.
KeLyssa sank down into her chair, "I hate you."
"Lys, that was uncalled for. Right now Caitlyn is not speaking as your sister, but as your guardian and field leader. Show respect." scolded Andais, giving KeLyssa a look.
"Whatever. I'm going to sit with Isabella." KeLyssa huffed, storming out of the room. Krysta looked at her sister, "What has gotten into her? Usually its me that balks at authority."
Caitlyn shrugged it off, burying the hurt down deep, "Forget about it. She'll either get over it or go home. I won't risk the team because one person doesn't want to listen."
Krysta nodded slowly and stood up, "I'll go talk to her."
Tianna jumped up as well, "I'll go too."
They watched as the two walked off towards the basement to head to the medlab. Just as they disappeared from sight, Finn showed up. He joined Duncan, watching as Meredith spoke softly to Caitlyn, who just shook her head. Caitlyn glanced up and saw Finn. She smiled faintly, "Finn, I just finished debriefing everyone. Andais can fill you in as you to note down what you saw during the battle. I need it done as soon as possible so I can go over it and start devising strategies and put together programs for our Danger Room. I want everyone to pratice in the Danger Room daily, as many sessions as your able. In your free time, when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed. Next time we face V-Force I want to be prepared. I don't want anymore serious injuries if we can avoid it. Ok everyone. Now for work assignments."
There was a round of good nature groans and she grinned, "I thought you would be pleased. Uncle Aiden left me a list of positions to be filled and I have figured out where you all can go. Now Andais, I know that your the general manager while we are here, but Uncle Aiden felt that I would know where to put everyone. If you have any objections or suggestions when I'm done, you can adjust what you like."
Andais nodded, "Thanks Cait, but I'm sure you put everyone where they would best be suited. After all, you are a Gallagher."
"Your welcome. Now Aubrie, you and Malina will work in the restraunt. Breakfast and dinner waitressing shifts. Tianna, Krysta, and KeLyssa will handle the housekeeping on floors three to six, one on each floor. Meredith and myself will handle desk duties. Finn, you and Duncan will remain on pick ups. Isabella, when she gets well, will be in the kitchen. Her culinary skills won't go unnoticed here. Objections?"
Aubrie shook her head, "No but can I be there when you tell Krys, Lys, and Tianna that they are on clean up patrol?"
Caitlyn laughed, "No I don't think so. Thats just another agruement waiting to happen."
"Your probably right. Maybe you should tell them during a Danger Room session so that they can destroy simulations instead of actually objects inside the hotel we would have to replace." remarked Aubrie standing up, "Well I think I'll go and get used to the kitchen and what not. Malina, you wanna come?"
"Sure, lets go. Oh and Cait, don't about KeLyssa, you know how close she is to Isa. I'm sure she's just as frustrated as you and is just acting out. You know she loves you." Malina said, patting Caitlyn on the shoulder as she followed Aubrie to the kitchen.
"Come on Finn, lets get started on those notes. The sooner Cait gets them, the sooner we have battle plans." Andais said, pulling Finn with her to the computer room. Duncan stood and stretched, eyeing Meredith and Caitlyn, "You know if someone should head over to Sunset and a club called Thunderstruck, they might find something of interest."
Meredith and Caitlyn exchanged glances and grinned as the Scot walked away. Meredith elbowed Caitlyn in the side, "Oh I like him. What do you say we go and check out this Thunderstruck?"
"Meet you back here in thirty minutes?" Caitlyn said with a laugh. Meredith agreed and the two women headed off to their rooms to get ready. In the medlab, Tianna and the twins were seated around Isabella's bed, complaining.
"I don't see why they treat us like children. I mean, we were chosen to be part of this team and mission." grumbled KeLyssa, staring at Isa's pale face.
Tianna sighed and propped her head on her fist, resting her elbow on the bed, "I know. Its like, you know we are babies. Or something."
Krysta leaned against the wall and eyed her sister and friend, "Guys I think your missing the bigger picture. They are just trying to keep us safe. Its scared Cait, that Bella was hurt and she just doesn't want that to happen to us. Give her a break ok?"
KeLyssa looked at her twin, "And since when did you get so wise?"
"Yeah, because usually your the one who would be on our side." Tianna added.
Krysta moved over to take a seat on the end of the bed, "Since I saw Caitlyn crying over Isabella, apologizing for not being able to save her. Since I saw that she regrets being put in the position that is going to cause her so much pain."
KeLyssa and Tianna both looked taken back. Never had they seen Caitlyn cry, not even after she narrowly escaped New York. Even when the girls mother died, killed by rogue mutants who wanted to kidnap the twins when their powers first manifested, did Caitlyn cry. It was just unheard of. KeLyssa closed her eyes and flashed back to that day, six years ago.
"MOMMY!" screamed a younger KeLyssa, straining against her captor's grip, fighting to get to her mother, who was battling for her life. KeLyssa's twin sister, Krysta, was sagging in her captor's arm, knocked out after trying to set the man's hands on fire. Why these men were trying to take them, the eleven year old didn't know, only that it had something to do with them having mutant powers. It was nothing special to them, after all their mother and sister were shapeshifting mutants, able to turn into felines and any animal at will. When Caitlyn learned she could shift into cats, their parents sent her away to New York to a place where mutants can go to learn to control their powers.
When the twins' powers first manifested, it was decided that they would follow their sister to Xavier's Institute for Higher Learning. They were excited because now they would be with their sister, who they had only seen on breaks and trips up north. KeLyssa ignored the growl to be still and struggled violently to get free, even going as far as biting and drawing blood from the hand that was clamped over her mouth. Only the threat of being knocked upside the head kept her silent. Tears rolled down her face as she watched her mother get battered by a tall brute with bulging muscles and hands of iron.
Gisselle Gallagher ducked under the arm that was aimed at her face and lashed out with clawed hands. She was at a great disadvantage against her foe because it seemed that none of her blows affected him. But she fought on, her arms shifting from one predator animal to another, trying anything that would keep her babies safe. Her body ached and slowed, weakened from the loss of blood that flowed from the numerous wounds on her body. Glancing over, the black haired woman saw one of her precious twins unconcious and the other leaning weakly against the body that held her, tears streaming down her face. They were the reason she fought and would die for. Her skin rippled as talons formed and she screeched, her hands a blur of motion. The man grunted as she scored a hit across his face and blood poured from three wicked scratches that crossed over his eye.
With her opponent momentarily blinded, she pressed her advantage, now scoring hit after hit. But it was brief, he recovered quicker than she expected. And with one last ditch effort, she shifted completely, taking on the form of a polar bear. Her mouth opened and a viscous roar echoed through the room, and she hurled herself at the man, hitting with every ounce of power she could. The man went down, and she began rendering him, her wicked claws tearing him apart. When he laid dead at her feet, Gisselle shifted back and started towards the men who held KeLyssa and Krysta.
KeLyssa began her struggle for freedom again, seeing her mother the winner. Some slight movement behind her mother, caused her to freeze. Her mouth opened but no sound came out. All she could do was stare, blinded by tears as her mother fell to the floor, a neat hole in her back and a matching hole on the front of her body, right through her heart. KeLyssa began screaming, "Nooooooooooooo! MOMMY!"
The man who had shot her mother with lasers that were powered by the power of his brain laughed and walked towards her. She glared defiantly at him, and didn't have time to react to the flash of pale flesh. A gasp was torn from her lips as his fist connected with her chin and she went limp. The new man sneered and gestured towards to the door, signalling them to leave. As he stepped back to turn, KeLyssa managed to lift her head enough to get splattered with blood as four razor sharp claws peirced the man's skin, killing him instantly. The man slid from the claws, revealing a rather short, muscled man wearing a yellow spandex material outfit and hair that curled up. Behind him stood a taller man in a trenchcoat and red glowing hands. Her blue eyes glanced to her mothers body and she nearly passed out with relief.
Kneeling next to her mother was her older sister, ruby red curls spilling over her shoulder. When Caitlyn looked up, caught KeLyssa's eyes, her face filled with a hatred and she snarled, sounding very animal like. The man holding Krysta released her, letting her fall to the floor as Caitlyn charged him, her body changing as she went. Down on all fours, a lithe snow leopard, Caitlyn attacked the man who had a part in her mother's death. Blood spotted the snow white coat as her body twisted. One paw, claws unsheathed, swiped down the other man's spine and she ripped out his spinal cord. KeLyssa stumbled into the short man's arms and Caitlyn returned to her human form.
Ignoring the blood she was walking through she opened her arms and KeLyssa latched onto her sister, weeping in her arms. Krysta stirred in the taller man's arms and woke, whimpering from the pain. When her flame red eyes opened the first thing she saw was her twin, splattered with blood, weeping and clinging to her older sister. Krysta glanced around and swallowed back the vomit that rose in the back of her throat. Catching the lost and empty look in her elder sister's eyes, Krysta glanced over, seeing the dead body of her mother. A sob escaped her throat and she struggled to get down and ran to her sister, clinging to her strong loving grasp. KeLyssa glanced up once and wondered briefly as the three Gallaghers were lead out of the room why her sister wasn't crying.
What KeLyssa didn't know was later that night, fifteen year old Caitlyn cried her heart out in her father's arms after telling him his wife was dead and what she did. And she cried when they went to the Insitute, when she, Logan, and Remy told the Professor what happened when they arrived in New Orleans to get her sisters. That in the past six years Caitlyn would cry when she remembered her mother, but just never in front of someone.
KeLyssa wiped the tears that fell while she was remembering that fateful night when her sister rescued them from a horrible fate. Sighing, she stood and said, "I'll be back. I'm going to try and find Cait and apologize."
She left the room, lost in thought as she tried to sense out her sister, calling on the slight psychic rapport she had shared with her older sister from that dreadful night. Sensing that Caitlyn was in her room, she headed to the elevator, going to the room Caitlyn shared with Malina. She found the door open and her sister leaning in front of her mirror, applying black eyeliner. Caitlyn stopped and laided down the eyeliner when she saw her youngest sister in the doorway and turned, "Something I can do for you Lys?"
Lyssa nodded and went over to the bed and sat down, "I just want to say that I'm sorry for the way I acted in the lobby. I had no right to lash out at you when you are just trying to keep us safe. I guess I didn't fully understand coming into this, that you wouldn't just be my sister, but my leader. I promise I won't ever question you again. I'll obey all the rules too. Can you forgive me?"
Caitlyn smiled and sat next to her, wrapping a arm around KeLyssa's shoulders and squeezed, "I know and your forgiven. I'm glad that you had the courage to come up here and tell me that."
"I guess...so you and Meredith going out? After Jean said not to?" KeLyssa said with a quick grin.
Caitlyn stood with a laugh and walked back to finish putting on her make up, "No I'm going out and Merry is following because she doesn't know any better. Besides we are just going to be walking around, getting familiar with Los Angeles so that things will go easier."
KeLyssa watched her sister and rolled her eyes, "Right...and there is no way you would be stopping in at a club."
"Now what would give you that idea?" Caitlyn said, carefully applying a shimmering gold eyeshadow to her eyelids.
"Umm the outfit?"
Caitlyn looked down and laughed. After carefully lining her lips and applying a murderous red lip color, she spun around, holding out her arms, "What do you think?"
KeLyssa eyed the outfit, dubbed by Krysta a classic Caitlyn clubbin' outfit. Tight leather pants that laced up the side, revealing flashes of tanned flesh. Her feet were covered by spiked heeled boots that laced up as well. Her top resembled a corset, colored a deep burnished gold, with black laces that ran down and dangled over her stomach. Her pants rode low on her hips, revealing the black tiger paw print tattoo on her hip. Caitlyn had changed her naval ring to her favorite that had a cat charm with emerald eyes. Her hair was secured loosely with black pins and several curls framed her face, while the rest tumbled wildly around her head. She looked sultry, yet dangerous and KeLyssa grinned.
"You look like a femme fatale just stalking her next conquest. I love it. Be careful out there, won't you?"
"Promise. I'll be back later tonight ok. I'll have my cell phone on me, so call if there is any change in Isabella, good or bad." Caitlyn said, picking up the small purse that she would carry.
KeLyssa nodded and walked out with her sister, heading back to the medlab. Caitlyn danced down the stairs, striking a pose for those who lingered in the lobby. Finn clapped and Duncan let out a peircing whistle while Meredith and Andais laughed in appreciation. Caitlyn swept her arm out in front of her and took a bow before bouncing back up. Duncan shook his head, "You two make such a sight. Killers, thats what you are."
"Why thank you, Duncan. Now I know that we are ready to go." Meredith said, sliding her cell phone into one of her many pockets. Meredith wore another one of her pairs of jeans that were baggy, with numerous pockets and chains dangling from them. Only this pair had green and yellow paint splashes all over the legs. They matched the green and yellow tie dye halter top that bared her stomach and flame naval ring. She wore black combat boots and black arm warmers that laced up with green ribbons. Her blonde hair was pulled back at the base of her neck with two black and green locks framing her face. Her eyes were bare of sunglasses and lined with thick black eyeliner and gold eyeshadow, bringing out the thin gold circle of her eyes. Her lips were painted black, lined in gold. She looked exotic.
"Ready Merry?" Caitlyn asked after informing Andais of their plans.
Meredith nodded, "Yes I am. Lets go exploring."
"Exploring...ha!" muttered Andais, heading to the office that had been appointed to her. Finn followed, shaking his head. Duncan looked at the girls, "You girls remember what I told you and watch your backs."
"Gotcha." they chorused, walking out the doors. They walked arm in arm down the street, heading towards Sunset Blvd and the Thunderstruck club. After hearing several wolf whistles from the men they passed, the two girls grinned and put an extra sway in their steps, eating up the attention. After walking for forty five minutes, the girls found the club, barely winded. The line inside the club stretched out several hundred feet and sighing they took their place at the end of the line. Caitlyn dug a pack of Malboros out of her bag and offered one to Meredith before taking one herself. Flicking her favored red BIC lighter, Caitlyn lit up their cigarettes and took a deep drag. Blowing out the smoke, she said, "KeLyssa came to my room before I came down."
"Really? What did she say?" Meredith asked, holding her cigarette out to the side so that the smoke wouldn't blow into her face.
"That she was sorry and would respect me more or less here on out."
"Well that was big of her. At least you didn't have to go to her, to talk about the episode. Did she say why she came to her senses?"
"Nope, just that she was sorry." Caitlyn, replied, blowing out more smoke.
Meredith frowned, "Odd. Don't you think so?"
Caitlyn's reply was delayed by a bouncer who had been walking up and down the line. He opened a section of the red rope and motioned them through, "You two ladies can go ahead."
Caitlyn flashed a sultry smile, "Thanks."
They headed inside and were immediately knocked back by the music that blared from the speakers. Before they even reached the bar, sweat dotted their foreheads, brought on by the massive amount of body heat. They edged their way to one end of the bar and ordered apple martinis. While they waited on their drinks, each studied different areas of the club. Their drinks had just arrived and Cait had just taken a drink when an familiar scent invaded her nostrils. Her drink rattled as she sat it down, catching Meredith's attention. Merry looked at her friend, noting the sudden paleness in her face, said, "What are they here?"
"He is...and if I can smell him then he can smell me." Caitlyn hissed, fingering the stem of her glass. Why she felt so nervous at the thought of seeing him she didn't know. The rough kiss he gave her and the lingering attraction she felt towards him floated around in her thoughts but she quickly pushed them away.
Meredith arched a eyebrow, "Something wrong? After all I was under the impression that he was the reason we came here tonight."
Caitlyn shook her head, curls bouncing, "Nothing. Just that he knows we are here. I can smell him but I can't see him."
"Why am I not surprised? Its packed in here. Lets go out on the dance floor, he won't be able to miss us. We can bait him. Dance a bit then head outside. If he sees us, he'll follow. He won't be able to resist." Meredith said, tossing back her martini.
Caitlyn nodded and followed her friend's example, downing the rest of her drink. The two women muscled their way onto the dance floor and began to move to the rhythmn of the music. Their bodies dipped and turned, swayed and grinded against each other. Several men tried to squeeze their way in between them and were coldly turned away. Caitlyn turned, sliding her way down against Meredith's body, head shaking side to side frantically to the music. She worked her way back up, and was surprised to feel hands on her hips, steering her away from her friend. She caught Meredith's shocked expression as she turned to see who had grabbed her. Her mouth fell open as she stared up at the pale blue eyes of the man who called himself Wulf. He flashed her a grin before pulling her tightly against him.
The music changed to a slower song and now they swayed together. While Caitlyn tried to get her bearings back, Wulf, also called James Stuart, watched her. He had been sitting at a table with two of his friends when he caught her scent. Looking up he followed the flash of red hair onto the dance floor. Ignoring the woman with honey blonde hair next to him, he watched, rivetted by her erotic dancing with her friend. Pushing away the hand that danced up and down his thigh, he had stood and made his way over to her, unable to explain his reasoning. And now he had her in his arms, completely speechless. Leaning down, he whispered huskily in her ear, "Surprised, sugar?"
Caitlyn found her voice and replied cattily, "More like revolted. Now remove your paws from my body and back off before I have to hurt you again."
"Oh but I like it when you hurt me." he teased, unable to stop himself.
Caitlyn sneered and pushed away from him, breaking his hold and he let her go, "Since you put it that way, I won't waste my time on you."
She whirled, coming to a halt when a tall woman blocked her way. Noting the hatred that glinted in the green eyes that stared down at her, Caitlyn eased back a step and relaxed, ready for anything. The blonde flashed a grin that sent shivers down her back, "Oh look at what you got me James. A pretty little bitch."
"Hey back off blondie. I haven't done anything." Caitlyn retorted, looking for Meredith. Meredith would have came to her friend's rescue but the crowd had seperated her and now she was exchanging words with the man that was with James and the woman.
The blonde pratically purred and ran her fingers over Caitlyn's face. As Cait watched, she pulled her hand back and her fingers rippled, taking on a silver glint and becoming razor sharp knives, "Oh I think you did. You had your grubby paws on my man."
The hand lashed out and Caitlyn grabbed her wrist, the knives inches away from her face. A hard grin crossed her lips as her hand shifted, claws sliding out. She tightened her grip until the woman let out a soft cry, "No, your man had his paws on me, not the other way around. Maybe you should keep him on a leash." Caitlyn released her so suddenly that the woman stumbled back holding her wrist. Blood leaked from the punctures that the claws had left. James whistled, "Impressive. Not many can stand up to Falen."
"I guess everyone else is just scared of knives." Caitlyn said before slipping into the crowd. Meredith saw her hair and followed her out. The two girls met on the street and looked at each other, obviously checking for injuries. None were to be found and both let out sighs of relief. Starting back to the hotel, Meredith looked at Caitlyn, "So?"
"So he has a mean ass, demented bitch on his side that can turn her fingers into daggers. Almost ripped my face to shreds." Caitlyn replied, pulling out a cigarette.
"Ouch, thats it?" Meredith said, taking the cigarette from Caitlyn's hand to take a quick puff.
"Pretty much. But don't relax now, they are following us. I can hear him. Get behind me, I'm going to try and slip behind them." Caitlyn said as they walked through a crowd. Only Meredith came out on the other end. Caitlyn had shifted into a small housecat and ducked into a alley. A shadow on the brick wall to the side of her caused her to freeze. She darted out of the alley, only to be caught firmly around the neck. Letting out a hiss, she swiped out with a paw and swiped James across the face. Letting out a curse, he dropped her. Shifting before her feet hit the ground, Caitlyn glared at him, "What your girlfriend let you slip away again?"
"Your cute, witty too. Falen doesn't let me do anything. In case you didn't figure it out earlier, I lead Velocity Force." James said, hooking a finger in a beltloop.
Caitlyn arched a eyebrow, "Velocity? Thats what your calling yourself? Imaginative."
"Glad you think so. It stands for the forward movement of mutant rights." James replied.
"The only thing that is moving forward is you guys ruining the name of mutants around the world. Your not helping the cause. Your making it worse."
"And your going to stop me, dear?"
Caitlyn smirked, "You bet your ass I am. If you are determined on destroying Los Angeles, then we will stop you. And we will win. There's no doubt about it."
"I can see that this is going to be a beautiful relationship that we share." James drawled, moving towards her. Caitlyn watched him warily, waiting for him to come closer. The minute he was a foot away, she slipped around him, backing out of the alley. A knife appeared at her throat as she was grabbed from behind. Freezing, she cursed her lack of attention. The low throaty laughter of the crazy blonde from the club filled her ears, "Oh you thought you could escape Cutless? I don't think so, girlie. I'm going to slice your throat open."
Caitlyn didn't respond as the knife broke the skin and drew blood. The sight of her blood trickling down her throat enraged James, "Falen...let her go now. If you kill her I will kill you, comprende?"
Falen pouted and pulled the knife tighter against Caitlyn's throat and still the redhead didn't make a sound, "Oh come on lover, let me spill the blood. Can't you smell it? Hot and fresh, just waiting to flow from her body."
Caitlyn's stomach knotted and she thought, 'My god, we are up against a psychotic killer.'
James strode over to where Caitlyn was standing motionlessly, at Falen's mercy, and he grasped the point of the knive arm and jerked it away from the redhead's slender throat. Caitlyn leapt away, whirling and lashing out with a closed fist. Her fist slammed into Falen's chin knocking the blonde on her ass. Caitlyn hissed and snarled, "Keep that bitch away from me or I swear I'll kill her."
"Try it bitch." yelled Falen, jumping to her feet and leaping over James to get to Caitlyn. James tried to grab her but missed and Falen hurled herself towards Caitlyn, razor sharp arms outstretched. Caitlyn dropped to a crouch as Falen's arms passed over her. Claws replaced her fingers and Caitlyn raked them across Falen's stomach before springing up and slamming her shoulder into the open wounds. Falen cried out and slumped to the ground, blood leaking onto the ground. Caitlyn followed her down, claws arching out for the killing blow. But it never landed and she was thrown across the alley. James stood in front of Falen, watching as Cait landed on her feet. Meredith raced over to Caitlyn's side from out of nowhere.
Taking in the scene, Meredith grabbed Cait's arm and pulled her back onto the street. The last thing Caitlyn saw before rounding the corner was James' enraged face glaring daggers at her. Unable to resist, she flipped him the bird and blew him a kiss. The two girls disappeared into the crowd and Meredith pressed one of her arm warmers into Caitlyn's hand for the cut on her neck and commented as they rushed home, "Any deeper and it would be your body I was taking home."
"Mother fucker." Caitlyn growled, pressing the warmer against her throat.
"Yeah." Meredith agreed, knowing what Caitlyn meant. They turned a corner and dashed into the hotel, surprising Aubrie and Tianna. Tianna noted the blood oozing from the cut and rushed out yelling, "I'll get Malina."
"Jesus, what happened." breathed Aubrie rushing to their side.
Meredith shrugged, "Oh you know the usual. Caitlyn danced with a guy, pissed off the girlfriend, girlfriend tried to slit Cait's throat. Nothing different from home."Caitlyn laughed, "Bless you Meredith. Its nothing serious. Just ran into a player we didn't have the pleasure of meeting earlier. Real bitch of a woman."
Malina, Tianna and the twins came running into the lobby. Malina gestured to Caitlyn to sit down so she could doctor her. Her sharp eyes immediaty noted the depth of the cut and as she dabbed antispetic on the wound she commented, "She wanted to kill you, yes?"
"Gee what was your first clue, Lina? The deep almost fatal cut on my throat or my comments?" Caitlyn said sarcastically, wincing as the medicine stinged.
"Don't bite off the hand that mends you." Malina said mildly.
"I thought you said you would be careful." accused KeLyssa, glaring at her sister.
Rolling her eyes, Caitlyn brushed Malina's hand away as she tried to bandage the wound, "Sorry but trouble found me."
"HA! You went looking for trouble and you know it." retorted Krysta and she snapped, "Let Lina bandage it for the night. We all know it will be healed by morning."
"Whatever." Caitlyn muttered, leaning her head back. She watched her sisters pace and asked, "Any change?"
"No." was the sober reply.
"Actually..." said Duncan, walking into the room from downstairs, "She just woke up and is asking for you."
Caitlyn gave a huge sigh of relief, "Thank god. Ok, enough fluttering around me. I'll go talk to Bella, then someone can sit with her and I'll rest, ok?"
At their nods, she pushed through them, fingering the clear bandages that Malina used to cover the wound. She hurried down the stairs and walked into the medlab. Isabella was sitting up in her bed, weak but awake. Entering the room, Caitlyn smiled warmly, "Glad your back, Isabella."
