Kurt was
aware of only a few things all through the performance: the exact location of
every member of his family at all times, the fact that Erika was moving slower
than usual and making him have to do the same, and the fact Kitty was sitting
front and center, obviously brought down to the first row directly in front of
the rig by someone who knew he would be looking for her. He knew that if she were there, Storm and
Esther and probably Harry was there as well, but Kurt could only see Kitty as
he moved fluidly through his routines, his “disguise” as Nightcrawler making the
crowd cheer wildly. Little do they
know, he laughnwarnwardly, this costume doesn’t come off when the show’s
over… During one of his last flying
passes over the ring, he noticed Logan and Storm, sitting some distance apart
on either side of Kitty and neither looked happy. Now maybe he’ll leave my mother alone! He was so wrapped in his irritation with the
leaning and giggling that he very nearly passed Katja too hard to
his father, making her gasp in shock as Johannes grabbed her wrists harder than
she was expecting. “Sorry!” Kurt
muttered on the next pass, the last of the show. Katja merely stuck her tongue out at him and swung onto the
platform to bow and smile with her sisters and mother. Kurt
lost sight of Kitty as the crowd surged to their feet, clapping and cheering
for the Wagners. Kurt himself had wowed
them earlier with one of his solo performances as Nightcrawler, and as far as
most of the crowd was concerned, he just had not been able to change from his
devilish costume before he had to join the rest of his family in the ring. Odd…it’s the one time I don’t feel
exposed without my holo…if only everyone knew… The idea made him huff a mirthless laugh as he traipsed down the
ladder and followed his sisters out of the tent and towards the performer’s
trailers.

“Kurt!”

He turned
around so fast he nearly overbalanced himself. “Katzchen! How’d you get back here so fast?” he asked,
moving to meet her halfway. He grabbed
hold of her elbows to prevent a collision and smiled down at her. “What did you think?”

“I think
you people are insane! I’d die of
fright before I’d go flying around like that!
And,” she went on, glancing around to see who was listening, “I got back
here so fast because I phased through everything.”

“No one saw
you?” he asked, even though he already knew the answer. Kitty merely gave him an exasperated look
and he nodded. “Sorry. Had to ask.”

“Logan and
Storm are on their way…they’re taking the long way around,” Kitty explained as
Kurt began to lead her towards the circle of trailers and tents that made up
the performer’s temporary lodgings. “Your
father invited Storm to come back and visit afterwards and Logan’s just sort of
coming along…”

“My mother
didn’t invite him?” Kurt smiled grimly.
“Good…”

“You are a
twit sometimes! Logan is not interested
in your mother at all and Astrid loves Johannes so what’s there to worry about?”

“That,”
Kurt said simply. He pointed to two
figures in the circle of light thrown by of thf the flood lights used to
illuminate the grounds. Astrid and
Logan stood talking, Logan leaning against the light pole and Astrid swaying on
her feet, her body exhausted from the rigors she had just put it through. The sparkles on her costume caught the light
and shone brightly as she moved. “See? Leaning!”

“Kurt, you
have got to learn to trust people more…
Hey, Logan!” Kitty called, breaking away from her boyfriend to trot up
beside her foster father. “How’d you
like the show?”

“Just
tellin’ Astrid I loved it. She’s quite
good up there,” he added in admiring tones.

Kitty
blinked and glanced at Kurt, who seemed to be wearing a very self satisfied
smirk. “I thought they were all great…”

Astrid
smiled. “Thank you for saying so! My timing was off tonight…I’m so worried
about Erika…”

Kitty
frowned. “She seemed fine to me…”

Kurt shook
his head. “She was a half a second slow
on each pass. I think she’s just
nervous.”

“Be that as
it may,” Astrid began, but trailed off with a sigh. “Never mind that. Let’s
get back to the trailer and we can have some tea. I’m anxious to get out of this outfit!” she laughed, though it
sounded forced.

Kurt took
Kitty’s hand again as they followed his mother and Logan towards the noisy
performer area. “How’s the wedding
planning going?” he asked under his breath.
“Where did Esther go off to?”

“She had to
get back before the aunts noticed she wasn’t home. They’re more strict than we are in terms of the Sabbath…I shouldn’t
even be out now according to them, which is pretty much true when you get right
down to it,” she sighed. “The wedding
should go off without a hitch tomorrow, unless the sky falls in or something.” She held up one hand and waved her fingers
in front of her face. “I had to henna
all the women this afternoon. Ugh. That was a debacle…” She trailed off and blinked nervously. “Oh.”

“Was?” Kurt followed her gaze. He made an
inarticulate sound of irritation when he saw the same thing she did: Storm was
leaning close to Johannes, looking up at him through lowered lashes and smiling
demurely. As she murmured something,
she pushed a lock of white hair back from her eyes and Johannes seemed to sway
closer to her unconsciously. “What the
Hell is wrong with people?” Kurt cried aloud, nearly lurching from Kitty’s
grasp towards his father.

“Is that
even Storm?” Kitty mused, tugging Kurt back to her side by great dint of
will. “She never acts like that, not
even with…oooooooh.” It all made sense
to her now. “Tit for tat.”

“Excuse me?”
Kurt asked archly, more confused than upset.
“Tit for tat?”

“An
expression. This for that. I know what’s going on!”

“Care to
tell me?”

“Not really…you’d
blow a gasket or something…” Kitty
looked around and spotted a dark area between two trailers, obviously
unoccupied and relatively private. She
tugged Kurt’s hand again and made him follow her. “I think you’re too stressed out lately,” she explained as they
entered the dark area. “Piotr being a
dick and all that, then your mom and Logan…renewing their friendship…”

Kurt’s eyes
glowed in the dark. “Katzchen…”

“Shhh,” she
hissed. “You worry too much…” As she
spoke, she leaned closer to Kurt, forcing him to stand against the side of one
of the trailers. “You need to stop
thinking about things and just relax sometimes…”

“This from
Miss High Strung,” he muttered, but it turned into a gasp as forwent kissing
him and instead dropped to her knees. “Kitty!”

“Shhhh!”
she repeated more urgently. “We don’t
have a lot of time…Logan’s going to wonder where we went soon…” She ignored Kurt’s murmured doubt of that
statement and began to work him free of his performing costume. “Can you even breathe in this thing?” she
muttered to his chuckle.

“When I don’t
have someone doing things to me, ja, I can breathe just fine…” He let his head loll back as she freed him,
her fingers closing around his length to stroke him to hardness. “Kitty, are you sure this is a good idea?”

VeryVery,” she
said definitely. “Shhhh!” She could barely make him out in the dark,
the parts that were not covered by his costume blending into the shadows
seamlessly. His tail lashed as she darted
her tongue out to taste him initially, making her jump as it’s spaded tip
brushed her upper arm only to relax again as he began using it to stroke the
back of her neck idly, almost without his notice. She heard him stifle a groan as she took him further into her
mouth, drawing on him and tasting the salty fluid emerging from his arousal as
she made love to him with her mouth, laving and kissing and suckling his flesh
until his fingers tangled in her hair and he held her in place. Kitty increased her ministrations and was
expecting it when his climax occurred and drew on him until he pushed her away
gently, panting.

“You,” he
said after a moment, “are so evil sometimes.”

“But you
love me anyway,” she replied, standing a little shakily. “Now are you in a better mood?”

“For a
while,” he sighed, pulling her towards him and into an embrace. “I’m still going to worry about my Mama and
Logan.”

“There’s
nothing,” Kitty began, but stopped herself. “Look, Kurt, Storm isn’t going to let Logan get away with this flirting
he’s doing and I’m willing to bet that, by tomorrow, anything you might’ve
worried about will be long over before it even really began.”

“Was Storm flirting
with my father?”

“Um…yeah….”

“Retaliation?”

“I think so…”

Kurt’s
teeth glinted in the night. “Good,” he
purred.

“What?” Kitty tilted her head back to look at his
glowing eyes. “I thought it bothered
you that your parents were…um…diverted…”

“It does,
but Mama is a bit…jealous. She trusts
my father but…” He sighed. “A double standard it seems but it’s there.”

Kitty shook
her head. “I hope Johannes doesn’t try
to hit Logan. That’d be very bad.”

Kurt did
not say anything but merely took her by the hand again and led her towards the
family’s campsite. After a murmured
endearment and a quick kiss, he disappeared inside the trailer to change
clothes and clean up a bit, leaving Kitty with his sisters. “Hey,” Katja said, her face still flushed
from the performance. “You and Kurt
sure took long enough…”

Kitty
blushed. “Um…we were talking.”

“Was it the
same sort of talking that made the trailer shake last night? That was some conversation…”

“Oh, my
God! It didn’t!”

“It did,”
Anja supplied, grinning. “It’s not like
we don’t know what you two get up to…”

“I’m going
to die now,” Kitty mumbled. “Burst into flames and die…”

“Not before
you tell me what you think Logan is doing with our mother,” Erika said.

“Not you
guys, too!” Kitty groaned. “Kurt’s
convinced they’re up to no good!”

“Well,”
Katja said thoughtfully, “there was leaning going on.”

“Gah!” Kitty hid her face in her hands as the girls
giggled.

“We don’t
think anything is going on. We just
think it’s funny that Kurt does,” Anja said through her giggles. “And did you see Frau Sturm and Papa?” She blew out a long, low whistle. “Mama is going to have a heart attack!”

Kitty
raised one brow and peeked over her fingers at the girls. “You’re encouraging this?”

“We don’t have
television here. Got to entertain ourselves somehow,” Erika sighed.

“You three
are…” Kitty shook her head and
grinned. “When I think of the word, I’ll
let you know.”

They fell
into companionable conversation about everything and nothing until Anja asked
somewhat shyly, “Kitty, you’ve lived in the same place as Piotr for a while now…what’s
he like?”

“What?” Kitty’s tone must have been more terse than
she would have liked because all three girls looked surprised. “Anja, he’s a lot older than you…”

“Three
years,” she said with a hint of petulance.
“And there’s nothing going on…I’m just nosy.”

Kitty knew
a lie when she heard one but chose not to call her on it. “He’s nice enough. Persistent when he wants
to be…” She shrugged and left it at
that. If she really isn’t
interested, that should be enough.
Anja seemed disappointed that Kitty was no more forthcoming with details
but did not push the matter. Turning to
Erika, Kitty said, “I thought you did really well tonight.”

“I sucked,”
she said simply. “I was off and…” she
sighed, “and it showed.”

Kitty
noticed the averted glances of the older girls and sighed inwardly. “Well, it’ll take time to get back to your
former abilities. Have you thought of
doing something else in the meantime?”

“Kurti
asked me that, too.” Erika shook her
head. “There’s nothing else I can do!”

Kitty
chewed her thumbnail as silence fell.
The sound of someone’s guitar in the distance, picking out a flamenco
tune, made her brain flash with inspiration.
“You bill yourselves as a Gypsy circus, right?”

The three
girls nodded and Katja said, “Why?”

“I have an
idea… Erika, do you think you could
spend the night with me at my cousin’s tonight?” At Erika’s surprised look, Kitty added, “All three of you,
maybe? I could have you back here early
in the morning since I have to get ready for Esther’s wedding…”

As the
girls ran to ask permission, Kitty looked around and sighed. Logan was still leaning with Astrid
near their trailer and Storm…she shuddered when she saw how close she was
sitting to Johannes, laughing at something he said. Kurt is going to burst a vessel before we’re done here,
she sighed.
