When Remy finally crawled back into consciousness and opened his eyes, he found himself somewhere he did not recognize. Everything around him was clean and metallic, and Remy just knew that he was in a hospital of some kind again. There was a machine beeping on his left and looking down his left arm, he saw some clear liquid being pumped into him steadily. With trembling fingers, Remy tore out the needle in his arm and started to pull off all the other things attached to him. He hated this, had for as long as he could remember; even if he did not remember why he hated it so much.
Finally rid of all the annoying medical pieces, completely ignoring the constant beeps from the machines he had been hooked up to; Remy rolled onto his side and slowly sat up on the bed. Removing the covers from himself, he found that he was wearing what had to be most awful medical gown he had ever seen. Pale green with a floral pattern on it. Remy could only shake his head at the thing. Cautiously he lowered his feet to the floor, quickly withdrawing them again. The floor was freezing cold and the people who had taken him here had taken his shoes and hole-ridden socks. Bastards, Remy thought.
Remy bit his lip and lowered his feet to the cold floor again. He was not going to stay here and wait for whoever had abducted him; ice cold floor or not. Carefully he pushed up from the floor and managed to stand on his feet for about a second before falling to a heap on the floor.
«Merdé, got yourself into some deep shit this time, Remy,» whispered Remy to himself.
«My stars and garters!» said a voice to Remy's left, «What are you doing out of bed, young man?»
Remy turned sharply to towards the voice and did a double take. The man who had spoken to him was completely covered in blue fur from head to toe. Remy hastily crawled away from the man that was walking towards him.
«I'll help you back into bed,» said the man, crunching down to Remy's level.
Remy shook his head and backed as far underneath the bed he had been in, trying to get away from the man. The blue man had an puzzled expression on his face, but at least he did not try to get any closer to Remy.
«I'm sorry, where is my manners? My name is Henry McCoy, and I'm a doctor. This must be rather terrifying for you, waking up in a new place without knowing where you are.»
Remy only stared at the man that had introduced himself as Henry McCoy. There was a pang of sadness running through his body, the name was the same as his brother back in New Orleans.
«May I ask, what your name is?» asked Henry McCoy.
Remy bit his lip, not entirely sure he should tell this Henry McCoy his name. At the same time there was a voice inside him that warned him what might happen if he did not answer the question put to him. Before Remy could however, Henry McCoy smiled at him.
«That's okay, you don't have to tell me. Are you comfortable down there? Or would you like a blanket perhaps?»
Remy nodded and reached out a hand to tug at the covers on the bed. Henry McCoy rose from his position and very carefully moved towards the bed, dragging the covers down to Remy before going back to where he had been.
«I'll just be in the room over there,» said he, pointing to his left, «If you need anything, you just call out, all right?»
Remy gave a small, shaky nod, dragging the covers up and around his body. He was shaking and curled up tight underneath the bed. He kept his watchful eyes on Henry McCoy as he moved to the room he had pointed out to him. He only let himself relax and close his eyes, not sleeping mind you, when he could no longer see Henry McCoy, the blue furred doctor of whatever this place was.

Logan was sitting in the living room, watching some stupid reality show along with Rogue and Bobby. He did not quite understand what it was all about, but then all these reality shows were the same; win by manipulation and playing games with the other contestants. Luckily for Logan it seemed like the episode was coming to an end at last, the players were gathered to cast a vote. Logan guessed that the poor bugger with the most votes would have to leave, but there might be some kind of twist to it for once.
«I hope they kick out Jessica,» said Rogue, «She's so annoying and she really screwed up the last assignment.»
Bobby snorted, «You just don't like her because she slept with Travis when she was supposed to be on team with Benjamin.»
«I do not!» protested Rogue loudly, «She's messed up the assignment twice in a row now, and she's annoying.»
Logan could not help but shake his head, it seemed like this was all that mattered to Rogue and Bobby. He rose from his seat and Rogue immediately turned her attention to him.
«Where are you going?»
«Getting a beer.»
«Can I get one?» asked Rogue hopefully.
It was Logan who snorted this time, «Not on your life, girl. Nor until you're twenty-one. At least.»
Rogue looked scandalized, «But I'm responsible, Logan. You know that!»
«Doesn't matter, kiddo,» said Logan, leaving the room behind him and walking to the kitchen.
There he saw Hank, rummaging through the refrigerator.
«Hi, Hank. How's our guest doing?»
«You scared me, Logan,» said Hank, rubbing his head where he had accidentally smacked it into one of the shelves in refrigerator, «Our guest is in quite a state I'm afraid. When I left to find some food, he was still curled up underneath the bed you placed him in when you came.»
Logan frowned, «What is he doing out of bed in the first place?»
«He tried to get away. He ripped out the IV. I fear that something might have happened to the poor boy before, making him really dislike medical laboratories. He won't tell me his name either and he's absolutely terrified every time I get too close to him.»
Hank took out some ham and cheese from the refrigerator and moved over to the bread box. Logan took a beer out from the very small refrigerator in the corner. The one he had installed with a padlock, just so that no one else could steal his imported beer.
«At least he's awake, right?» asked Logan.
«Yes, that is somewhat comforting. I really feared for the boy when you and Professor Xavier brought him in. I did everything I could for him, but as you noted he is merely skin and bones and I was not sure what that explosion might have done to him. I've done all I can for him now, the rest depends on him.»
«He might do better if he has a room here, in case you're right that something bad has happened to him before.»
Hank nodded, «That might not be a bad idea, Logan. It may also help in convincing him that we are not bad people and that he should let us examine his powers properly.»
«Why would you want that?»
«If your retelling of what happened when you found the young man is accurate, I'm afraid that he has some immense amount of powers within him. I won't know for sure however, until I give him a complete examination and get to assess his powers in the Danger Room.»
«Why couldn't you just give him the examination when he was unconscious?» asked Logan.
«It might not have been accurate and with him unconscious there is no telling what his powers might do when tested like that.»
Logan nodded, «I guess that makes sense.»
«It does, my dear friend. It's also important to know what kind of power he has, in case they are at an Alpha or even Omega level.»
«What does that mean?»
«It means that their powers are so great they might not be able to control them, and instead the power control the mutant. Personally I've never met such a mutant myself, but I do believe that Professor Xavier has.»
«What happens if they can't control the powers?» asked Logan, both intrigued and horrified at the idea of a mutant with that much power.
Hank shrugged, «I'm not sure, but I would suspect that depending on the power the mutant had it would cause either them or their surroundings great harm. They might commit suicide or get killed, either by others or their own power.»
«Jesus, let's hope that's not the case with the kid.»
Hank nodded gravely, «Luckily the boy is with us now and if it is the case that he is an Alpha or Omega mutant, we will help him the best we can.»
«And lets just hope that Sabertooth doesn't come looking for him again. Whatever that guy wants with the kid, it can't be good. Still bugs me that we left him behind there, now we might never know why he was after the kid.»
«Yes, that may be true, Logan. However, I'm glad you left him there and brought the boy to safety,» said Hank and bit into the sandwich he had made, «I never ceases to amaze me how good this is, yet how simple.»
Logan shook his head, «Mind if I go down to see him?»
Hank shook his head, «Not at all, but wait for me. The boy is really skittish and I don't want to cause him anymore distress than absolutely necessary. I'm soon finished with this anyway.»
Logan nodded and sat down opposite Hank, waiting for him to finish. He could not help but worry about why Sabertooth was after the kid. Also he was anxious to see the kid again, he had felt drawn towards him the moment he had laid eyes on the boy running down the street.
«What is on your mind, Logan?» asked Hank.
Logan shrugged and downed the rest of his beer in one go, «Just wondering why Sabertooth was after the kid. He's so young that he can't possibly have pissed off someone like that.»
«Are you thinking that Sabertooth might've been hired to get the kid?»
«Must've been. As much as I know about Sabertooth, which I admit isn't very much, this isn't the way he operates. Sure he's a sadistic bastard, but I can't help but think someone put him up to this. That someone pointed out that kid to him.»
Hank nodded and rose from dinner table, putting the plate he had used in the dishwasher, «It certainly seems possible. Shall we go down to see how my patient is doing?»
Logan nodded and followed Hank out of the kitchen, disposing his beer bottle on the way.

When Remy woke up, he was still curled up underneath the bed he had taken refugee under. He was startled about the fact that he had actually fallen asleep, he must've been more tired than he realized before. A part of him was also very grateful that Doctor Henry McCoy had not moved him during his sleep, but left him where he was; even if it was an uncomfortable position and place to sleep.
Remy wanted to believe that McCoy was one of the good people there were in the world, but he found that he had little trust left inside him. Not that surprising after the whole disaster back in New Orleans. Hearing a door swish open, Remy tried to crunch together even more. He did not want to be seen, did not want McCoy to know that he was awake again. Looking through the bars on the bed, Remy saw McCoy and the man he had seen before the explosion in the alley enter the room.
«So where's the kid?» asked the man Remy had seen briefly.
McCoy smiled and pointed towards the bed Remy was sitting under, «I believe he's sitting under there. Be careful, Logan, he's very scared.»
«Yeah, my nose picked up on that.»
McCoy laughed, «It is always fascinating to hear what your nose can pick up, Logan.»
Logan, as McCoy had called him, came over to where Remy was sitting, but much like McCoy he stopped a few paces away and dragged a chair over to where he stood. He sat down and stretched out his legs in front of him, crossing them at the ankles. Logan did not say anything at first, just sat there and let Remy get used to his presence.
«I know how you're feeling, kiddo,» said Logan after a few minutes, «Waking up at a strange and foreign place, not knowing anyone there. Happened to me too, you see. Lost all my memories a few years back. Well, maybe not a few, more like fifteen years ago now. Woke up on a beach, no idea how I got there or what I was doing there.
«I know everything is scary at the moment, and it should be. If you weren't scared about waking up somewhere you didn't know, I would've had you checked out. This isn't a bad place, however, you can trust me on that. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't a good place. Things will get better, kid, you're safe here. All mutants are safe here. It's a place where mutants like you and me can learn to control their powers or just be around their own kind.
«I came here with Rogue about a year ago, might be closer to two years now, not entirely sure. She was barely sixteen at the time. I met her in a bar, can you believe that? A girl her age has no place anywhere near a bar, yet there she was.»
Logan lifted his head and looked straight at Remy, «I wish there was something I could say to make you trust me, but I know there isn't. All I can say is that I won't let Sabertooth anywhere near you again.»
Remy frowned; who was Sabertooth.
Logan smiled sadly, «That's his name, the guy that was chasing you. No good that guy, but like I said he won't come near you again.»
Remy smiled, it was good to know the feral's name at least.
«I'm Logan, by the way. You might've heard hank say it. No last name though, can't remember it. I'm not entirely sure Logan is my name either, only use it because that's what it says on my dog tags.»
«Remy,» whispered Remy, coming just a little bit out from underneath the bed. He felt drawn to Logan, but he could not explain why. There was just something about the rugged man that appealed to Remy on a very basic level.
Logan seemed shocked that Remy had introduced himself, but quickly collected himself again, «Nice to meet you, Remy.»
Remy rewarded Logan with a small and shy smile, which Logan returned with a big grin of his own.
«I've never liked it much down here, I think I surprised Hank when I asked to come down to see you. Hank said we could get you a room here at the school, if you want to? I bet you'd like it better than being down here.»
Remy bit his lip, a nervous habit he had picked up on over the years, but nodded nonetheless. He was not entirely sure who this Hank person might be, but if he said Remy could move to another room he was not going to argue about it. Logan gave him another wide smile.
«Just wait here for a minute, all right?»
Remy watched as Logan rose from the chair and walked over to the room McCoy had pointed out to him the first time he had woken up. He did not have to wait for long, before Logan came smiling out of the room.
«Come on, Remy. Lets get your clothes together and get you a room that's not here,» said Logan, «Maybe we can find you a room on the third floor? Not too many people there, just me and Hank, but Hank spends most his time down here.»
Remy stared at Logan in shock. He was serious about this, letting him leave this place and have a room to himself. It had been well over a year since Remy had his own room, and now he was just given one as simple as that. This was too good to be true in Remy's mind, surely Logan expected something for this.
Remy knew that no one gave anyone anything without expecting something in return, he had experienced it himself not long after he had been forced to leave his home. A man had given him a few bucks and offered him a place to stay and get cleaned up. Remy had believed him and gone with him to the man's apartment, and in the end the man had raped him and tossed him back out on the street. Remy had fled from the city that night, not wanting to run into the man accidentally.
Remy figured himself stupid, this past year was not the first time he had been living on the streets. He had during his time at the LeBeau-clan forgotten that people most of the time were dishonest and cared nothing about him.
«You coming, kiddo?»
Remy clutched the blanket, but did not move otherwise. How did he know that Logan would not do the same? What if he just wanted the same thing the man had wanted? Remy shook his head and slid deeper underneath the bed again, closing his eyes tightly.
«Hey, what's wrong?»
Remy said nothing, maybe if he pretended Logan was not there he would lose interest and go away.
«Hank, I think something is wrong with Remy,» said Logan.
«Remy?» asked McCoy.
«Yeah, Remy. The kid I brought back with me. Didn't I mention his name was Remy in your office?»
«No, you did not, my friend,» said McCoy, now a lot closer to Remy than he had been before, «Nice to meet you again, Remy. I know you are rather scared, but there really is nothing for you to fear here. I know that Logan offered to get you a room at the third floor, you will be able to get out of here. You are safe here, Remy. No one is going to hurt you.»
«You're lying,» whispered Remy.
«He's not lying, Remy. This is the safest place for you, for any mutant. I already told you that. You don't have to live on the streets anymore, you can have a hot shower if you want and no one is going to kick you out.»
Remy just shook his head, burying his face in his knees. He prayed they would leave him alone soon, he was getting tired and he could stop the emotions slipping through his defenses.
«I don't think this is going to work, Logan,» said McCoy, «I think maybe getting Jean would be a good idea. She has a way to connect with new students and guests.»
«Yeah, I'll go get her,» said Logan.
