Chapter 2, Hard Light
"Erm, its... Rhaimy..." He stammered, rubbing the back of his neck and looking down. Professor Ceti grunted from behind them. "Well, get settled, I'm sure Rhaimy can show you around" She strode out, ducking down under the door frame and slinking off. Elise waited until her footsteps had disappeared, then bumped the door shut with her hip, pointing to the two free beds. "You, and you. Mine" Dropping her clothes, she got a hold of thee bed post, but before trying to move the large, heavy bed, she looked over her shoulder at the still love struck Rhaimy. "Well? Give me a hand here" Fumbling to do as she asked, he didn't even mean for the two copies to appear, taking up places on either side of them. She gave a confused glance and then practically cooed. "Ooohh... now that's gotta be a handy skill to have around! Which is the evil one?" She chuckled, shoving the bed easily up against the second one, which now resembled a Queen sized. Once it had scraped into place, she stood straight and reached down to the two much shorter copies, taking a pinch of their cheeks. "They're identical! How cute. Now which is the real one, hmm?" She laughed as two of them popped and vanished, the real Rhaimy still locked in her finger and thumb, who mumbled and pulled away, nursing his sore cheek. "Ow... that... zapped" He said curiously, his neck still tingling a little from the contact, as his hand was from the greeting. She smirked and snapped her fingers, the digits giving a small flash of yellow light as they struck each other, like a flint. "Yup. My skin emits this stuff when it touches more skin. Don't quite know what it is yet, but its like solid light! Or Hard Light, as I like to call it. Not a nice skill to have during bush fire season though, so me folks shipped me off here, so I wouldn't send the cane up, haha" He blinked, tilting his head. "Your from Australia? You don't look like a farmer..." She waited a moment and then snickered. "I'm not. Lived in Brisbane all my life. Got sent here for slicing the principals tires, hehe. Hard Light can be as sharp or as brittle as I want it" She winked and turned to lift her bags up, dumping their contents onto the double bed and sorting them into piles. Rhaimy could only stare, but luckily caught himself and shook the cobwebs from his mind. He was still slow to think, this new arrival sending his mind into a sort of deadlock. When she realized he wasn't talking, she peeked over her shoulder at him and smirked, something which... pierced him somehow. That grin seemed all knowingly, like she could see into him and knew exactly how he was feeling. "What's the matter? You shy or something?" She giggled, hefting the hastily stacked pile of shirts into her arms and waiting expectantly by the chest of drawers, watching him. After a moment, it clicked and he dashed to pull the drawer open for her, a clone appearing on the other side to help open it and take half the pile, layering it in. She smirked at the both of them. "Wow, this doubling stuff is like a cough for you, huh?" She seemed pleased with his quick reaction, and for some reason that made him grin timidly up at her, suddenly feeling very shy. She perked up one eyebrow, her approval smirk widening, then grabbed his wrist. "So, we guna spend a nice sunny day cooped up in here?" Then she yanked him towards the door, the motion catching him by surprise, a clone falling behind him with a little yelp. She almost swung him into Satyr as she scaled the stairs two at a time. "Elise, wait!" He panted, a little panicked now. He wasn't deathly afraid of socializing, but being literally hauled off into a Frisbee game was a bit too fast for him. She just grinned at him. "Hurry up or I might end up dragging ya kid!" Maybe spending so long cooped up on a plane had made her restless... either that or she was just naturally this active, a prospect that frankly made him nervous. Well... everything about her made him nervous. Just that care free laugh pierced into him and took a firm hold of his chest. Her hand also crackled with that 'Hard Light' whenever it rubbed an inch in his, the friction sparking. As she got them into the bright yard, she went right to the other three Mutants and waved. "Hey, got room for two and above?" She gave his shoulder a shove, which made another clone stumble, getting a chuckle out of some of them. They were a little surprised that Rhaimy was with her, who was almost hiding behind her legs. When they agreed to let them play, she clapped her hands together, which emitted a humming spark, then began to rub them together, the light igniting from between them. It flashed and solidified as a discus of pure yellow light, humming and brightening as it moved. She tossed it to the closest person, who caught it cautiously. "Don't worry, it won't explode... unless I want it to, hehe" Having only exchanged a few timid helloes, Rhaimy backed up with Elise, peeking at her once out of the corner of his eyes. As the Frisbee whizzed by, it made a light humming, burning brighter as it spun, almost growing as it flattened out. The person who caught it was unlucky enough to have it shatter against them like glass, each shard dissipating like little flames on them, their hair frizzing from it. "Oops!" She called out, making another one between her hands. "Sorry about that, its been a while, hehe" Giving it a hard side arm, it streaked with a high pitched drone, fanning out. The game went on for a while, until Elise bumped him with her elbow. "What's up kiddo? Its not guna hurt you! I'll slow it down for you, hows that?" She grinned and tossed it in a wide arched, turning around and coming back at them. She shoved him towards its trajectory, chuckling as he took the initiative. Then she smirked and snapped her fingers, breaking the discus into three smaller ones. Rhaimy jumped and grabbed the closest, landing on top of a clone and then having the wind knocked out of him as two others came down on top of him. She laughed and they helped all of the Rhaimy's to their feet, Elise taking the Frisbees and melding them back together in her hand. "Nice work kid!" He smiled and thanked her, and this time, he didn't dissipate his clones immediately, like he normally would. Even with these people around, and his nerves about exposing his powers, he wanted to try... because she wanted him to. He couldn't explain it. By the end of the game, there was seven of him running around, his white shirt stained with grass, flushed and laughing. The others started to spread out and leave, Elise licking her thumb and rubbing a dirt smear off his cheek, which caused another crackle of hard light. "Hold still kid, ya look like a post game soccer field" The almost motherly attention... he didn't understand how someone who had only known him an hour could be this kind to him, or have such a... strong effect. The simple contact made his shoulders hunch, which only made him look tinier compared to her tall stature. Smirking down at him, he had that now familiar sensation of being read, like she knew exactly what had just gone through his head... and that she approved. "I'm beat... why don't ya show me how they get food around here?" Giving his back a gentle shove, she let him lead the way, crossing her arms and boring holes into his back with that all knowing smirk. He still didn't know what it was about her that effected him so strongly... but for the first time since he had come to the Institute, he had a reason to smile. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
