Attack on Frost Enterprises
Part Two
As she neared the den, she called out to her brethren and her mate howled in response. If it were possible for her to smile, she would do so. She descended to them and shifted quickly, the three shapes – raven, human, wolf – becoming almost inseparable in her haste to be with them. She nuzzled with her mate and the rest of the small pack – including her, there were six wolves – and they greeted her happily in return.
No sooner had she settled down with her mate and the phone ring. Adrienne growled angrily at the atrocious creation, and her pack looked to her to be informed of what to do. She shifted back to human form, flipping open the phone and answering.
She sighed, hating these impromptu meetings for they cut into her time as the pack leader, but it would be in her best interest to follow the heinous orders of Creed.
Within fifteen minutes – twelve more than when she was expected to be there – she arrived at the hotel, shifted where she would not be seen, and walked calmly into the building, her arms folded across her chest impatiently and a frown upon her lips. She hated this building – no doubt animals and trees had to die for its existence – and she hated that she missed out on time with her wolves.
All in all, Adrienne was not in a pleasant mood.
-
“Well, you’d fucking know if your snob ass didn’t try leading the way all the blazing time.” Creed grabbed him by the coat and yanked him back, completely unconcerned with the wings it covered. He was growling on a constant level now, not able to keep himself quiet at all, and received some very hard looks as they exited the elevator and entered the lobby. Thankfully Adrienne was there waiting looking as pissed as he felt. “Come on.” He grumbled walked past her without greeting and heading straight out the door.
-
Jarred allowed himself to be tugged back and stayed submissive and as far away from the perturbed Creed as possible during their ride in the elevator. Angry feral, closed spaces- not Jarred's favorite situation to be in.
When they reached the lobby and exited the cramped space he spotted Adrienne almost immediately, her sticking out like a sore thumb among the happy people surrounding her. “Wow- she looks pissed,” he stated simply to Creed as they made their way to the exit. “Kind of like someone called her away from her puppies.” Creed passed the girl without so much as a glance but Jarred offered up a smile. “Long time no see, lovely. How’re the beasties?”
-
Oh, fantastic. Not only had she been called away from her family, but she had to deal with yet another of Creed’s annoying servants.
“More civilized than you and your loathsome kind could ever hope to be.” She said to him, glancing about at the creatures milling about them. Disgusting, the whole lot. With a scoff, she turned away and followed Creed outside, her boots emphasizing each step. As far as she was concerned, they could not get out to the fresh air fast enough.
“What do you require of me?” She asked simply of Creed, getting to the point and forgoing any formalities. It is best to learn her mission as soon as she could, saving time later on.
-
“I’ll let ya know when the time comes, darlin’.” Creed stated in a no arguments voice, punctuated with a deep growl, as he led them down the street toward a subway entrance. He ascended the stair like death it’s self, people dodging out of the way of the angry feral who could not hold his tongue, or rather his chest that rumbled with every foot fall. Skipping the ticket booth completely, he climbed onto the B train without being stopped and not waiting to make sure his subordinates had made it, he knew they would cause they knew what would happen if they didn’t. Taking a seat, the nearest passenger was three seats away and sliding further down still, he felt it safe to finally speak. “We’re headin’ for the business district.” He growled in short as if that explained it all.
-
"I see we're a happy camper today," Jarred said sarcastically as they exited the building, just barely above a whisper, and took a particularly long drag from his cigarette. But, despite his murmured words, he kept his mouth shut. He wasn't stupid enough to pick a fight with Creed watching. However, the thought that this girl imagined herself to be a mangy wolf just because she chose to live with them was hilarious. Instead he smiled and held out a small candy cane, which was black and white. “Peace offering? From my kind to yours?”
He followed along behind his boss and to the left, letting Adrienne walk beside him in Creed’s wake or trail behind the two men. Jarred kept a safe walking distance far enough behind the larger man so as not to trod on his heels, but still close enough to pass by the dumbfounded ticket clerk so that the pimply-faced boy knew who he was with. Creed had made more than enough spaces vacant for the three, but Jarred decided to take a seat on his right and position his coat so any feathers wouldn’t be poking out. “And of course we won’t be standing out at all… What do we need from there?” His smile was polite and inquiring and Jarred hoped he wouldn’t get his head bitten off for asking.
-
A glare was her initial reply, along with pointed silence. She followed along behind the boss, walking with a cat-like arrogance. The appearance of the candy cane - black and white striped, no less - caused her pause. The last time she had tasted candy, or even looked at it for that matter was... she could not remember. This troubled her a bit and the mask of cool confidence dropped momentarily. She actually smiled - rather, a mere upward lift of her lips - but it was enough to pass for a pleasant look.
"Do you offer all the girls you meet candy, or am I the only one?" The tone was pleasant, not condescending or insulting, another rare thing.
But the boss was waiting and, all too soon, the alpha wolf was back in place. She continued onto the subway - after first snatching the offered candy - and stood againt one of the railings. She would rather become an ant again before sitting on the disease-infested seats.
After tucking the candy cane into the sleeve beneath her arm, she watched Jarred and Creed silently. Jarred, the helpful angel, had already asked the question in her mind, therefore, there was nothing she needed to say.
-
Creed eyed them both warily for a moment, this new found understanding between them playing on his nerves. He did not need his subordinates to be friends, hell it would be better if they hated each other. “We’re gonna wait till night fall and break into Frost Enterprises and get the equipment I need to hack into the Academy’s computer systems.” The news would no doubt go over nicely with the wolf queen, who wanted nothing more than to return to her pack, but Creed didn’t give a shit, he needed full access to the school’s files.
-
Jarred leaned back against his seat and gazed up at the ceiling, trying to ignore the nasty old and ugly people sitting around them. Honestly, not a looker in the bunch? The crap that sat around them was a true testament to how thoroughly this planet was going to Hell while run by the un-gifted sort. “Do we get cool black latex outfits and black glasses like in the Matrix? A trench coat and all? You wouldn’t even need to get Adri one, she’s fully equipped.”
He smirked and returned his gaze from the ceiling in time to catch a particularly fetching troll sitting in front of them checking him out. Jarred instantly lost his smirk and seemed to turn a shade of green when the old woman actually winked at him. Turning his gaze back to Creed beside him, he asked in a mock whisper, “Are we there yet?”
-
Nothing would occur until nightfall... good. In the meantime, she could hunt with her pack; her young pups were growing up quickly, and needed proper training in the art of acquiring food.
"Any shifts I shall need?" She asked Creed, somewhat guarding the phrasings given how crowded the horrid subway was. She knew he'd get her meaning, nonetheless.
Truth be told, she did not have that many acquired. Wolf, raven, tiger, snake, tarantula, ant, and mouse.
"I am not. I lack the sunglasses." Adrienne said to Jarred, no hint of a smile evident in either tone or expression. She was cooly and distantly neutral once more.
The animorph glanced from Jarred to the old woman, inwardly amused by his disgust. As payback for the candy cane, Adrienne leaned over - thankful for the trench coat which hid her body from the lecherous gazes of those behind her - and whispered in the woman's ear. The old woman's eyes got as big as saucers and, soon after, she moved far, far away from them, hiding in one of the far corners.
Adrienne stood back up as though nothing had happened.
-
“Knock it the fuck off, both of you! You shut your fucking mouth and you sit your scrawny ass down.” He looked at each of them in order, waiting for compliance, and grunted as he got it. “The only reason we won’t have a low profile is your mouth.” He growled, looking at the boy to his right, Jarred always had a trap big enough to fit all of New York into. Turning to Adrienne, he snipped, “and don’t even think about taking off, you’re with me until we got what we need, got it? Your little mutts can just wait.” He huffed once, hearing no arguments and turned to the man sitting close to them who had been staring the whole time. “And what are you fucking staring at, meat?”
-
Watching in amusement as the man wore a look as if he were a deer trapped in the headlights of a Mac truck and then, in the next heartbeat, jumping up and practically running to the farthest corner from Creed, Jarred was barely able to suppress a laugh. Sometimes it was worth getting Creed worked up some just to see an innocent passerby get scared shitless. However, while such strong outbursts were not uncommon around the feral mutant, Jarred figured it would be a much safer course of action to just shut up and wait for them to reach their destination, sending Adrienne a questioning glance every now and then but reserved to ask her later about the old woman.
-
She sat down when ordered, offering neither a glare nor a response of argument. She crossed her right leg over her left and folded her arms across her chest in a typical defensive manner. The reference to her wolves as 'mutts' did not sit too well, but she'd rather hear an insult than see them dead.
"You did not answer me." She said to Victor. She liked to be prepared for their missions, whether or not they did was not her concern. Already, she was calculating those creatures she already possessed. Wolf and tiger were brute force; raven and mouse made superbly sneaky spies; tarantula and snake were a natural choice for a stealthy kill. She did not include 'ant' in the list for hell would have to freeze over before she'd become that again. She shuddered at the very thought.
A nod was sent Jarred's way indicating that later would be a better time for questions. No matter the relationship they had, the both of them had an unspoken bond; an understanding. They knew when to talk and when to keep silent. Now was a time for the latter.
