Chapter 19
Fight
Laughter echoed through the room as a smile spread across Ororo’s face. It was the first time anyone had seen a smile on her face like that.
“It’s good to have you home Ororo.” Hank spoke as Ororo hugged other people.
“Yes the students have been bothering him nonstop.” Karma eased herself out of Warren’s arms. As Tabitha and Evan started the music, Rogue pulled Remy out onto the floor and they started dancing. Soon other couples joined, Peter pulled Amara out on the floor which caused some smiles. Warren grasped Karma’s hand and pulled her out onto the floor as she shook her head. Although what surprised most was when Ray walked over to Tabitha and grasped her wrist taking her out onto the floor. Megan, Jubilee, and Kitty were chatting in a small circle. Ororo wondered around the room talking to some of the teachers and students. The whole time she could feel Logan’s emotions, although mostly that consisted of his awareness of her.
“So, I guess this means you and Logan are an item huh?” Gabriel leaned against the food table. Ororo evaluated him carefully she had yet to interact with him since everything. “Thank you by the way. For saving me from myself.”
“Yes,” Ororo glanced over all the food through the bond she could feel that Logan was curious and possessive but he did not move from his spot. “Your brother, rest his soul, helped as many people as he could.” Ororo picked up a drink and looked around the room. “Loosing Scott, Jean and the professor.” Ororo sighed, it was still an ache but not as bad as it had been. “It’s why I kept the school open. Everything that they did was to help mutant and human relations. We grew up believing that there could be peace.” Ororo turned her back on the room to look out the window. “I am not foolish enough to believe that it will be easy. I am brave enough to face whatever the world throws at us and keep resisting the harsh reality that they tried to shove at us.” Ororo turned back to the room only to realize that the music had stopped and everyone was listening to her.
“Ororo,” Turning to Rogue she saw that the girl had a giant board in her hand. “I know that the professor was here for a short time but I want to do this in memory of those we lost.” Ororo nodded at Rogue as she opened the folded presentation board. On the board was the mansion but there were many other buildings as well. Actually the closer that Ororo looked the more she realized that there were buildings connected to the mansion. “We all know that you have been getting requests for people to come here. People who are not students, those that need a safe place to go and even humans that want to support us.” Ororo nodded reaching out and tracing a finger over one of the glass hallways that connected two buildings.
“This is amazing.” Rogue nodded.
“I figured that we could name the buildings. I mean we will need a college, eventually. I’m not sure what else we need but I know that with enough mutant and humans working together we can be a self run community and an example for the world.” Ororo walked over to Rogue, hugging her.
“They would all be proud of the woman that you have become.” Ororo was still hugging Rogue when it happened.
When the full scale attack began.

Dark Flag Ship
“Commander, we have arrived!” A mutant clad in red leather stood at the controls, hands over them, controlling the ship with his mind.
“Fantastic!” The commander a woman clad in blue leather stood and walked forward. “It was a gentle journey. You are getting better at it Gadget.” Gadget nodded and closed his eyes.
“Commander Fox they are awaiting your command.” Fox placed a hand on her hip. The Artificial Intelligent Robots (AIR) that she had brought to defeat these mutants that had hoped for peace.
“Commander Fox,” The strong voice came from behind her and it was a voice that she despised even if their goals were similar. “I can ensure that they reach the ground in one piece.” Commander Fox laughed flipping her long red hair, although the laugh had no real mirth to it.
“No, Erik I have no need for you to do that.” Commander Fox refused to use his mutant name which she could see annoyed him. Turning her bright green eyes on the mansion she smiled. This was the last moment that these mutants would have in their relative ‘peace’. She was here to collect the powerful ones. Running over the ones in her head. Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Shadowcat and Magma. Anyone else that they collected was a bonus. “Your only job is to immobilize the Wolverine.” Erik sighed but otherwise made no comment. Eternal Fire was the future of the world, they didn’t need to fight the humans because the destruction of the humans was already assured. Their leader Apollo, Fox always found this amusing, how in front of all of the other mutants he posed as a god. Fox knew who he really was, had known him forever. She knew his childhood, his dark side, and her favorite was his cruel side. It was easy for him to cause the death of a whole family when one member had caused him just a bit of grief. It was what they had decided to do now with the X-men. Well, sort of. Fox let her hand fall from her hip as she stepped up next to Gadget.
“Release them.” Gadget nodded his eyes still closed and a rumble began in the darkest part of the ship as rows upon rows of paneling opened underneath the ship and the AIRs fell to the ground. Fox let the smile slip across her face. ‘Not long now my dear Arthur. We will have what we require my lord.’ That was his name Arthur not Apollo but either way it didn’t matter she would have what he asked for within the hour. Fox turned and her eyes focused on the cage before her, inside was a wolf. “It was so easy to make you believe your family was in trouble.” The creature growled at her the intelligence clear in its eyes. “They will never see it coming and I have you to thank. My adorable little Rahne.” Fox turned back in time to see the AIR units descend on the mansion.
As a last ditch effort Rahne lifted her muzzle and howled. It was something she didn’t do often and it echoed and reverberated. She hoped that they heard her anguish if nothing else it might give them a chance. The electric shock of punishment traveled through her a second later and her howl turned into an anguished whimper.

Mansion
Logan and Warren heard the howl and were both moving before the wall exploded. Neither knew what to expect but Logan would know a warning howl anywhere.
“Sam, shield!” Samuel had been doing well with his shields, so much so that when ordered they appeared more as a reaction then conscious thought. For this everyone was glad otherwise the exploding wall would have left everyone almost incapacitated.
Rouge had been preparing for a long time and although there were others that could lead she jumped in.
“Aurora, Northstar, Shadowcat and Pixie scout and assessment. Spyke, Cannonball, Magma and Colossus defense.” Rogue turned as she spoke looking at Ororo who nodded.
“Get to it!” Ororo screamed over the falling debris. Her eyes shifted to Logan the anger traveled back and forth between them. Whoever this was, they weren’t ready for the X-men. “Iceman, Sunspot, Jubs, Booms distraction.” The four nodded and Kurt teleported to the roof then returned. Everyone else ran for the door trying to figure out what was attacking them. Outside was a mess.
AIRs were disk robots that were similar to spiders in that they had 8 arms. Two had already wrapped around Aurora and Northstar, neither held because of their strength. Pixie couldn’t be seen because she had shrunk the moment she realized how large the fleet of robots were. Shadowcat easily phased through them and caused them to run into each other. Magma was throwing continuous blasts of lava and Spyke was tossing spikes at any robots that came to close to the open whole in the mansion. Cannonball and Booms started to work together, shook waves and tiny bombs to blow them. Sunspot and Iceman were working together too, to freeze and burn as many bots as they could. Angel took to the sky and worked with Northstar and Aurora. Berzerker took to the sky, joining in as well. Hank glanced at Ororo and Gambit was using his cards.
“We won’t be able to hold of this many forever.” Ororo nodded they needed a plan. She waved her hand focusing on bringing in fog around the ship that was above them.
“Nightcrawler, get Colossus, Shadowcat and Karma.” He disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
“Would you like me to go as well?” Ororo glanced at Wolverine but shook her head.
“No, I want them to go up and check that ship out while I cover the field maybe giving some cover... and distraction. Jubes!” The spitfire girl came running over.
“What’s up?” Kurt appeared back before Ororo answered she spoke quickly to the four.
“You,” she pointed up to the ship. “Scout out that ship and disable it.”
“Wolsbane might be up there.” Ororo glanced back at Logan, no one spoke for a moment.
“Get her out and anyone else.” It took a moment and Ororo realized that they wanted to catch them. What she wouldn’t give to have Hope or Nathan.
‘Yes?’ The pleasant voice whispered in her mind.
‘Hope?’ There was a chuckle in her mind.
‘We are close but when I reached out I realized there was trouble.’ Hope was quiet for a while. ‘Anything I can do to help?’ Ororo breathed out in relief.
‘Yes can you let everyone know that these ship robot things are trying to capture us.’
‘No problem!’ Ororo winced at Hope’s excitement but was glad to have someone that could reach everyone privately.
“Our telepaths are on their way back. Nightcrawler go now.” The four disappeared in a puff of smoke.
‘Magneto is here.’ Ororo was surprised when Hope spoke in her mind again.
‘Thank you.’ Ororo send to her but Hope wasn’t finished.
‘They want you and Logan, not sure why a few others.’ Hope paused. ‘Oh well now that won’t be happening.’ The connection was severed and Ororo shook her head.
“Wolverine.” Logan turned to Ororo and he felt through her, both excitement and worry. “Magneto is here as well.” A growl traveled up his spine at her words and oddly Ororo felt it reverberate in her own. “We both know that the first chance he gets he will disable you.” There was a firm determination in the bond from Ororo. “You take care of coordination down here and I will handle the cover and Magneto.” Worry slipped through to her but she shook her head. “I am sure Logan.” All the people that were still around them watched the one sided conversation wondering if one of them had suddenly developed some kind of telepathy. Without another word Ororo was flying into the air much faster and more controlled then she ever had before. The words she spoke were for her ears alone.
“I remember the truth now. I am in charge of this power I do not fear loosing control and they have no idea who they are messing with.” Ororo flew up using small shifts in her fingertips to adjust the air currents so she could float in front of the giant ship. A smile, a mischievous smile spread across her face.

Meanwhile on the Ship
“Commander, they are taking down our numbers drastically but the bots are beginning to learn.” Fox nodded at Gadget but she could feel them they were not learning quick enough for her liking.
“Gadget release the season 2.” Gadget turned around and shook his head.
“But... But commander they aren’t fully capable. They...” Whatever else he wanted to say was silenced as she smacked him across the face. The other members of the crew stepped back.
“I did not ASK for your opinion. I said to release them now DO IT!” Her voice echoed over the room. “Next time you decide to tell me how to run my command I will throw you off this ship.” As much as she liked Gadget he needed to learn his place. Yes she was a difficult commander but that was because she expected only the best from her team. Gadget stood swiftly and ignored his busted lip and pressed the button that released the second season of AIR’s. These were larger and more brutal then the first season. These had electric shock capabilities. Fox had designed these herself, well really she had designed all 5 seasons. The first two were the only ones that had been created but Apollo had promised he would let her make more if she returned with the X-men. A task she had no intention of failing. Unfortunately there were only 15 of the season 2 that she had time to make. As Fox turned to take her seat she spoke.
“Instruct the season 1’s to protect the season 2 and those that aren’t needed on the protection ring focus on taking....” Fox paused and looked out the window that was in front of her. She paused mid step into her seat and walked toward the window. There outside the window was the weather witch the one called Storm. “What does she think she is doing?”
Storm rose her hands into the sky and as she did mist rolled above the field blocking out the battle that was happening but not around the mutants below that were battling. Storm could feel the currents and suddenly it was so much easier. As if what she had feared this whole time was holding her back in such a way that no one really understood her abilities. All this time mutants had tried to tell her that she could only manipulate the weather. That the right conditions needed to present themselves for her to do what she wanted. But that was a lie, or a misinterpretation of what her powers actually were. Storm’s smile widened.
“My power is not like a weather witch but like a weather goddess.” With those words she pulled her hand back and when she pointed at the ship a hundred thousand shards of ice flew through the air gaining speed until they embedded themselves in the hull of the ship.
Meanwhile
Nightcrawler climbed on the wall while Colossus and Karma kept a look out.
“This ship appears to be almost empty.” Shadowcat was phasing through doors so they wouldn’t make too much noise. “Well there is enough room on this ship for a lot of... people.” Shadowcat was a little shaken by the amount of cages that were in the rooms she was looking in. All so far had been empty.
“Storm said that Wolfsbane might be here.” Colossus was staring down a corridor, this ‘ship’ as it looked like was built like a cross between a blimp and a sub. Colossus had studied many subs and was familiar with the maze like designs but this was much more then just a simple sub.
“I’ll see if I can find her mind.” Karma closed her eyes and allowed her senses to stretch. It was not unlike telepathy unfortunately she was far too far away to actually control any of the minds on this ship. “There seem to be roughly 40 minds on this ship.” Karma paused feeling a young mutant but the mind was strange. “She is in her animal form. There are other mutants here... but... something is wrong about these minds.”
Nightcrawler dropped from the wall. “What is wrong?”
Shadowcat kept an eye out behind them now that Karma was focusing.
“It’s as if... they are all under a spell. All but one... Oh no not going in that one.” Karma opened her eyes but paused feeling another mind. “There is a mind at the end of the hall I almost missed it. He is asleep... or sedated.” Shadowcat ran down the hall and disappeared coming back through.
“Colossus, I need you.” Peter nodded and walked over phasing through with her and returning with a man slung over his shoulder. “They tried to hide him in a closet.” Karma turned to Nightcrawler.
“Take him to the school and get back here quick.” Nightcrawler nodded and disappeared in a puff of smoke with the man only to return a moment later. The ship shook violently, causing all of them to hold on. “That would be our distraction we need to hurry and get Wolfsbane before they bring down this ship.” They all nodded at her words running and following Karma’s instructions on where Wolfsbane was. Once they reached what Karma assumed to be the bridge they heard a woman yelling.
“I DON’T CARE IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT! I WILL GO DOWN TO YOUR SON AND KILL HIM IF YOU DON’T GO DEAL WITH THAT BLASTED WOMAN RIGHT NOW!” Fox was known for having an awful temper when things didn’t go her way and right now it appeared that she was losing her cool.
“When I free myself of you and your masters craziness and my son is no longer in harms way. I promise I will kill you quickly, but painfully.” There was a laugh at Magneto’s words.
“I dare you to try.” There was footsteps and a weird hissing sound.
“I will never understand why Apollo thought he would be of any use to me.” Karma and the others listened intently and she risked a glance around the corner. The room was large with giant bay windows and 5 occupants that she could see. The ‘driver’, the screamer as Karma dubbed her and two men standing by a cage that held Wolfsbane. Karma glanced over her shoulder. Between the 4 of them odds were pretty good that they could pop in and out without too much issue. What worried Karma the most was what abilities the screamer and the driver might have. Turning to her group she leaned in and began to whisper as the ship rocked again.
“Nightcrawler your first obligation is to get Wolfsbane out. We have no idea what condition she is in.” He nodded at her words. “Colossus I am worried about the two that are in the front they are both mutants.” Nodding at her words he did not speak so she could continue. “Shadowcat I think your talents are just right for a distraction.” Karma raised an eyebrow and a malicious smile spread across her face. Shadowcat stood and brushed the dust off of her pretty pink skirt and tank top. Of course there had been no time to change into their suits. With a cute smile plastered on her face she ran into the room.
“OH MY GAWD!” Kitty wished not for the first time that she had a camera attached to her outfit so she could film all the reactions to her craziness. Oh she was well aware of the type of person she was and the reactions she often received. Like for instance the look that was on the one woman’s face.
“Who... what... how...” Kitty smiled and crossed her ankles and folded her hands behind her back.
“Does anyone know where I can get a Milkshake.” The woman’s eyes widened and she looked at her guards.
“What are you standing around for!? Get her!” The woman pointed at Kitty as she stared at the two guards.
“Time for me to go I guess.” Kitty waved as she phased through the floor. The guards looked at each other and then ran from the room. Thankfully completely missing the three companions hiding in a doorway outside.
“Milkshake?” Karma’s eyebrows rose as she looked at Peter.
“You did say it was her specialty.” Karma nodded and hid a laugh as they slipped into the room. The remaining people were watching the battle that was ensuing between Ororo and Magneto. Karma stared pointedly at Kurt and then looked at Rahne when Kurt nodded Karma focused all her attention on the “Driver” Using her ability to take over his mind. It was easy for her to seize minds but it was much easier to make subtle suggestions then to outright take control. But everything that these people had done pissed her off. Karma relied on Colossus to protect her as she gripped the drivers mind and dug her nails in. As she did this the man screamed loosing some control of the ship causing it to dip in the air throwing everyone forward. Karma cared little as she regained her footing and dug deeper trying to control not just him but his powers as well.
Colossus grabbed the woman around the waist and held her tight.
“What the Hell! Put me down!” Fox fought against the intruder that had suddenly grabbed her.
“No can do miss.” Fox’s eyebrows pulled together and she charged up her hand and grabbed his arm sending a wave of volts through his body. “That tickles.” This only angered Fox and she used as much as she could generate and touched him again. The first time had been enough to take down a man but this time she used enough to melt metal. Colossus was shocked and not just shocked but it had disrupted him on a molecular level causing him to not only release her but to fall back and into his human form.
“Shouldn’t touch a woman who doesn’t want to be touched.” She turned to face him but as she did another scream echoed the room. Karma had finally gained control with her physic nails dug deep into the drivers mind. Karma could feel that something had happened so she gave the man one order and pushed it so hard into his mind that was all that would matter. ‘Crash the ship.’ As she pulled out of his mind she barely had enough time to dodge a knife swung at her. “What the hell did you do to Gadget!” The woman fell backward as the ship changed direction. As it did Kurt reappeared.
“Time to get!” Karma’s voice was thick with her accent as she dove at Kurt and Peter grabbing a hold of both as they popped away. Fox turned around to see the ship break through the fog and head for the ground.
“Gadget!” Fox turned and shook the man but he didn’t respond to her. “Gadget!” Again she yelled but it was no use. Fox turned and ran back out the door.

Earlier - Storm & Magneto
“I was wondering when you would make an appearance.” Storm rested one hand on her hip.
“Yes, well, I didn’t have much choice in this instance.” Magneto floated in the air.
“So I am curious, how do you expect to fight me without metal?” Magneto looked back at the ship and raised his hands. From the top layer of the ship rose a large block of metal that broke into a thousand smaller pieces.
“Does this satisfy your curiosity?” Storm smiled and it unsettled her enemy. Never before had she shown any emotion this was certainly a new development.
“Consider me quenched.” Storm rose her hands and the ice shards she used earlier developed in a second, much bigger then they had been before. Without warning they traversed the sky Magneto used the metal to shield him. The extra pieces collided with the ship.
“So the weather witch has some new tricks.” Magneto twisted his arms and sent little metal shards at her curious to see how she would deal with them. Storm’s smile disappeared and she used only the tips of her fingers to change the wind and force the shards around her and back toward Magneto. “Interesting.”
“I am not a weather witch... My name is STORM!” As the last word left her lips it was punctuated by thunder rumbling and a lightening strike that barely missed Magneto. He flew backwards slightly.
“You missed.” Magneto’s words had Ororo laughing.
“Hitting you would kill you.” There was not mirth in her voice this time. “I have no desire to kill you.”
“The good ol X-men leader.” Storm shook her head and cut him off sending another barrage of ice wind and icicles at him.
“No, I don’t believe we should be fighting any more!” Storm pulled lightening to her hand and closed in on Magneto quickly. Quicker then he expected her to be and her hand closed around his outfit right by his neck. Storm’s voice became low so low no one else would hear them. “If we continue this fighting and bickering, the world will turn to ash around us. We will do the humans work for them.” Magneto had flashes of the future the one that Hope showed them.
“And you have a better plan?” Storm could see that Magneto was faltering.
“I DO and I want to have the change to try.” Magneto nodded slowly.
“If I help... and you fail.” Storm nodded for him to continue. “Then we do it MY way.” Storm sucked in a deep breath. Having Magneto on their side it would change everything.
“Provided you do nothing to sabotage it,” Storm rose her eyebrow. “Then I will agree.” Magneto nodded and they both turned in time to see the ship crash. Magneto’s eyes widened just as Aurora stopped before them.
“Storm,” they both turned to her. “Rahne is safe and so is...” Aurora paused and looked at Magneto. “So is Pietro.” Magneto breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that he cared or didn’t care. For Magneto having a child, a mutant child was difficult for him. He had never wanted children because he didn’t want a human child, nor did he wish for a child that would hate him for leaving. Leaving because there was no way he could care for a child at all. After Hope’s vision Magneto had learned that Pietro’s mother had died in childbirth and he was put into the system. Pietro’s mother never spoke a word of who his father was. Magneto was on his way to find him when he had been confronted by the Dark Flag ship. “We have taken care of most of the bots but they have pulled back and are just waiting.” Storm nodded as the three of them headed for the ground.
Ororo looked around, it seemed other than Hank, Wolfsbane, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Shadowcat, Pixie, Spyke and Northstar everyone was present. She knew that Hank would stay out helping the wounded and she could only think that the others were with him. Except maybe Pixie, taking one last look around revealed that Gabriel was limping, Iceman was leaning on Sunspot appeared to have a broken leg and Jubilee had a giant cut on her face. Ororo turned back to the bots that remained they were floating in the sky above the crashed ship. Storm shook her head that would take forever to clean up. A soft sigh escaped her lips.
“If the AIR’s are still in the sky that means the commander is still alive.” Storm crossed her arms at Magneto’s words. “I could kill her quickly by just destroying the ship but,” Magneto paused and raised an eyebrow looking at Storm.
“You just agreed to do things my way. That would be a step back for you.” As she finished her words Logan walked over to her.
“Colossus was in battle with her on the ship. Said that she is basically a ball of electric.” Logan glanced back at the ship that was now smoking and on fire. Billowing the dark black smoke into the air that would no doubt soon bring too much attention to their home. “It disrupted his mutation.” Storm could feel the anger rolling off of him through their bond but she turned to him anyway in disbelief. It was hard to believe anyone could bring that man to his knees. Rubber was good against electricity but they didn’t have that type of power available. Storm turned her eyes to Karma who had been waiting for just that moment.
“I would not be able to control her. The power she wields is far too much but...” Her eyes landed on Gabriel. “He might be able to.” Storm turned to look at him finding him behind her.
“I coul’ ge’ the’ all to blow.” Everyone turned to see Gambit who shrugged his shoulders. “Wit’ a little help of cours’.” Storm smiled and nodded turning around.
“Aurora, Amara and Sunspot.” Sunspot had Iceman leaning on him so he passed him off to Boom-Boom. “The three of you will fly around with Gambit.” Storm eyed Remy up and saw his eyes widen in response. “I’m sure the three of you passing him around can get him in close to those bots.” They all nodded and Aurora placed her arm around Remy’s shoulder.
“Don’t worry I won’t drop you...” Aurora winked at him as they walked off. Storm shook her head.
“As for the rest of us... Bobby,” She turned to look at him. “Karma take him to Hank.” Karma nodded and helped Bobby back into the mansion. “We are going to have attention here very soon.” Ororo glanced up at the giant black clouds and an idea formed in her head. A storm is exactly what they needed.
