There, two chapters within 3 days of each other -- none to short either, if I may add. Amused by some comments, always makes me smile when I get reviews. I'd have to thank my love for this particular chapter, he gave me alot of ideas which I used and feel helped get the story on track. I was surprised he offered to help because he was reading it and died laughing... several times.... usually on the more naughty parts of the story because he can't take them seriously, not that they are meant to be. Anyways, enjoy!!!
_______________________________________- It had taken Kate two days before she was back on her feet; despite the physical trauma she had experienced, she had owed her time, strapped-down, to Beast’s suspicion that once free she’d get herself into more trouble. His instinct to procrastinate had been more right than not because no sooner was she released did she threaten assault- mainly on Scott. “You make it very hard to cut you slack when you prove everyone right…constantly.” Beast had spoken dryly. He watched her struggle to pull a shirt over her head and had winced himself when he was sure one of the maneuvers had torn her stitches. She had wanted to sigh, but taking in that much air would have put pressure on her back… which was sore for the time being. She, instead, settled for rolling her eyes and sucking her teeth, “What am I going to do,” she looked over at Scott who didn’t give her even an arm’s length of space, “leave a bruise on him?” He stared at her quietly, his jaw clenched shut. He had his qualms that she was going to go postal again; he’d be there to say “I told you so” and put an end to it. She finished pulling the shirt down, convinced it was as straight as it was going to be, and tried to back up from the side of the bed. She bumped into Scott intentionally, trying to indicate, though it was fairly obvious, she was set to move and he was indeed in her way. A growl founds its way to the surface and it had slightly delighted Kate to know she at least had buttons to push. He refused to move and pressed his body into hers- remaining an unmoving wall. “Beast, can you do something about this asshole before I-“ “Go ahead,” every word was laced with venom, “give me a reason.” “Holy shit, you’re really angry.” She did her best to sound surprised. “Scott,” Beast had felt like a tired father monitoring his rivaling children. “Yeah Scott, anger leads to the dark side after all. Don’t want you to be wearing black and listening to Linkin Park in your bedroom.” She taunted him, having a sense of security as long as Beast was around. His expression changed behind his glasses and his body tensed up. She noticed it and could feel the tension in the air, “You listen to Lincoln Park, don’t you?” A spiteful smile sprouted on her face and Scott had decided it was the final straw. Without warning, he went to grab hold of her but she reacted fast enough and BAMFed by the door. While taken aback and slightly nauseated, she managed to be proud of herself, “Forgot I can do that,” she looked over at Beast who was only a few feet away and BAMFed again. She fought the sensation to throw up and put an arm on Beast’s shoulder, “I think I actually have control of it now.” “Ah,” he paid little attention, “if only we could work that miracle with your mouth, that would give real cause for celebration.” She fained she had felt insulted and turned her attention back to Scott who had found it hard to ignore her, “Keep it up, Karma will come in the form of a wall.” She BAMFed again and left the room entirely. “Well, this has been all too rare an occurrence,” said Beast; happy to finally have peace and quiet. ___________________________________________ She had found Kurt in the hall, seemingly biding his time, but she didn’t know what for. He wandered up and down the corridor, flicking his tail occasionally, his mind clearly preoccupied. It took him a moment to realize she had found a spot on the wall to watch him from, but once he had met her gaze, he formed a grin and made sure to keep his teeth from showing; nothing to ruin a possibly decent moment. “I see you found your own way out, Fraulein.” Kurt folded his arms, proud of his little prodigy. “Yeah, I did, didn’t I?” She wondered how long it would be until Scott came huffing and puffing. He touched her face and traced an imaginary line over the side on it. Expecting her to pull away or swat at his hand, he held it still to give her the opportunity to play her role. When she hadn’t, he felt inwardly pleased and continued down the line. “What are you doing?” She had entertained his obscurity long enough. “Touching your skin, what else would I be doing?” “But why like that?” “It’s where your skin melts into blue- you can feel the difference.” He felt it was a sweet thing to say but had forgotten that usually indicating that she was deformed was a fluffy-moment killer. She swatted his hand off and held her face, “Shit, are you being serious now?” Had she forgotten the effects of absorbing Kurt’s DNA? “Don’t be like that.” He brought his hand back to her face. “Like what?” More panic than anger present in her tone. “Like you’re disgusted with me, I did not do this to you.” “Really, I didn’t f-“ she was cut when his lips brushed lightly against hers. It didn’t need to be forceful; it was distracting enough in and of itself. He waited a moment for her anger to die down before he withdrew and watched the expressions evolve on her face. “You know what I meant.” He turned and had expected her to follow. When he glanced back to see if she had taken the invitation, he was pleased to see her a few steps behind him; wide eyed and curious. They made it back down the hall and stopped at a tall door. “What’s in there?” She asked in awe of how the door stood out from all the others. “You said you have control, no?” It had been redundant and sounded a bit like a challenge. “I think I do, I mean, I came out here.” She became more and more nervous of whatever was behind the door. “It’s called the ‘Danger Room’,” and the door opened to reveal a big empty space with some sort of windowed room above it. “Really?” She breathed a sigh of relief. “Not what you were expecting?” Kurt knew very well it hadn’t met her expectations, at least not yet. He walked her into the middle of the room and pat her on the shoulder, “Wait right here.” He BAMFed and appeared up in the room that overlooked the rest of the place. She stared up, wondering what was going on, unsure of what to expect. She certainly wasn’t expecting to see Logan appear out of nowhere near Kurt. He gave her a look that she couldn’t translate, but it certainly wasn’t friendly. Kurt BAMFed back down by her side and she remained staring up at the room. “Are you ready?” “Ready?” She looked around frantically trying to figure out what she needed to be ready for. “What is it?” “It’s a simulation, It’ll be easy. Just avoid the obstacles and you’ll be fine.” He stepped back from her and ‘ported onto the ceiling. “Wait, what am I suppose to-“ But before she could finish the sentence he had given Logan a thumbs up and then “Level one simulation,” had announced itself from seemingly everywhere. Worry swept over her face and yet somehow her device remained quiet; she knew damn well that some part of her was exceeding its limit somewhere. “Just ‘port away from them.” Kurt called down to her. She gave him a questioning look as if to ask “from what,” but a large metal arm came down and nearly crushed her. Her instant reaction was to try and run, but she was met by an arm that had been moving horizontally and it knocked her off her feet. “Think of a safer spot and go there.” Another arm made its way to her and she looked on the other side of it, hoping it would remain clear and BAMFed over to it. She clutched her head anticipating failure but was pleasantly surprised when she looked up to realize that she was in one piece and that she succeeded in teleporting. A smile of amazement appeared and she continued to teleport away from danger. Once she realized concentrating on where she wanted to go made it easier, she didn’t have to put much thought into it; it was as simple as blinking. Logan had reached this same conclusion up above; that it had become much too easy, and decided to have some fun. “Level Three Simulation” was announced and Kate looked up immediately at Kurt who was all too amused to explain what had just happened. The amusement was shared with Logan and she knew then and there that things were going to get harder. It no longer was just arms, it was darts, and lasers, and a shifting floor. It was all too much at once and she was easily knocked to the floor. Getting herself up, she ran as a stream of lasers chased her over the floor. “Make it stop!” she pleaded, but Kurt had seen no harm in it. She made her stand in the middle and made eye-contact with Kurt, “Please, stop it, I don’t want to do it anymore.” She pleaded. “Level Five Simulation,” was announced and even Kurt found it impossible to be amused. “Was?” The laser had headed straight at her and in an attempt to block herself she raised her arms and closed her eyes. A Bamf sound echoed out in-front of her and when she looked from her cowering position, it was Logan standing before her with a clean shot in the neck from the laser. The smell of burnt flesh was pungent and she had half remembered wondering if burnt flesh smelt at all like bacon; nope. She gasped, horrified to see Logan fall to the ground and large amounts of blood pulsate out of him. The hole in his neck and the lack of response lead her to believe he was dead- who survives a thing like that? Kurt BAFMed into the control room, but found it hard to take his eyes off of her as she screamed, “Oh My God, Kurt!” The simulation continued and she caught from the corner of her eye an object coming her way. Before she could react and half wishing it had been someone else besides Logan to die, a cloud that smelt of brimstone formed and it was Scott who got hit in her stead and sent to the ground. “End simulation.” A worried voice commanded up above, it was Beast. He had no idea what had happened- just that Logan and Scott were down and Kate was likely on her way. It had taken a minute, but Beast appeared in the doorway with conviction. “Who’s idea was this?” Kurt had joined the small group as one of the members not on his butt. Kate hovered over Logan, quietly crying and touching his neck as if putting her hand over it would have fixed it. “What did you do?” It was Scott who sat up, his hand clutching his arm where he had been pelted. Assuming he was referring to killing Logan, she found it impossible not to sob. “I don’t know.” Her body shook, like she was cold, and her voice wavered, “What did I do?” It hadn’t been a real question, at least one not open for discussion. She had killed Logan, was soon to face the emo-wrath of Scott, and- “She teleported objects to her-“ Beast seemed to be missing the bigger picture; Logan was dead. She looked up at him like he was stupid or blind or both. “Are you alright, fraulein?” Kurt knelt by her side and clasped her hands in his own. She couldn’t look at him, she didn’t deserve his kindness; not now. “Is she alright? She didn’t get hit with a – what the hell are you doing in here anyway, this isn’t a toy.” Scott reprimanded. He straightened himself out and yanked her up by the arm, “You could have gotten serious hurt in here,” he looked passed her to Kurt, “Are you trying to trigger her?” Kurt had felt that though things may have gotten slightly carried away, it was no cause to panic and freak out. “I am terribly sorry, Mein fruend,” he was entirely sincere, “I’ll take it from here.” He gestured for him to release Kate’s arm from his grip. Scott let her go and turned his attention to Logan who had been laying quietly on the floor with a hole in his neck. “That could have been me.” Scott seemed to be looking on the brighter side of things, but it didn’t make Kate feel any better. She had no desire to face the consequences for manslaughter, and she had felt even worse that no one seemed to be reacting the way a grieving friend should have. I’m so sorry.” She wept weakly, her body still involuntarily shaking, “I didn’t know that would happen.” Kurt had opened his mouth to say something, but she had teleported out of the room, and he felt her teleport again and again. “If you’ll excuse me,” he gave a bow and his face had become serious upon his rise. He left the three in the Danger Room and did his best to feel-out where Kate had gone. ______________________________ She found herself in a small town, too tired to teleport any further. It had not gotten dark yet, but the sun was retracting to the horizon and the town was hit with the rich red rays of the sun. It was still cold, despite the sunlight, and her next inward complaint was how she had no feeling left in her hands. She wandered the town until she came upon a camper parked in someone’s driveway. It would, perhaps, beat freezing to death- but perhaps she merited it. She looked through the window and used whatever energy she had left into teleporting inside. It was bare- not even a mattress where the bed was supposed to be, but there was no cold wind inside, and it had felt warmer than her alternative. She sat on the wooden frame and leaned up against the wall, closing her eyes for a moment. When she opened her eyes again, it was a noise that startled her. Her body was shaking from the cold and every muscle in her body ached from it. She turned her head to look around and found something far worse than what she could have imagined- it was Sinister, bemused expression and all, standing in the empty aisle of the camper. She went to speak but found her voice coarse and coughed. “How?” “I may have lost track of you for a while, but as of the last few hours, you’ve been transmitting.” “You lo-jacked me?” Her anger was lost in the chattering of her teeth. “You have a way with words,” he opened up a hand for her to grab and she may have grabbed it if she had been out of her mind, “You’ll die here.” She had felt faintly something in her stomach- a fluttering sensation and had instinctively assumed it was Kurt. “Kurt?” she called out, but looked to find him nowhere in sight- just Sinister and his red eyes. He had looked a moment as well, but upon seeing no one around, had assumed it was the telepathic link she sensed. “I do hope he finds you, Ms Leander, I have high hopes for the two of you.” With that he grabbed her arm without much resistance and guided her out of the camper. The camper’s door had been ripped off and outside were a few familiar faces; none friendly however. She was steered into the back seat of a car and Sinister had slid in beside her. A woman had gotten in on the other side and there were two men in the front- if you could call them that. She looked out the window and saw dissipating smoke on the other side of a wooden fence. She didn’t see him, but she felt the pit in his stomach upon him seeing her. Perhaps rescue was on the way? She had felt hopeful for a moment but then remembered the reason why she left in the first place.w thiWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
