Together with Wanda I enter the doors of the compound. Laughter is coming from the kitchen, and I notice that it’s coming from a lot of different voices. I take a deep breath to calm down my nerves before we continue our way, and Wanda grabs my hand when she feels my anxiety starting to come up. She gives it a squeeze and searches for my eyes with her own, smiling at me when she finds them. “I’ll be with you whole the time moy khart (my heart).” Het statement warms every inch of me, and not sure how to response to it I just give her a smile. She gives me one more squeeze before we continue, keeping a hold of my hand the entire time. When we enter the kitchen I can see that a lot of people are sitting at the large dinner table, the same one where we had seen Daisy and Jemma earlier this day. For a moment everybody goes quiet when they see us enter the room, something that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. I don’t want to be the center of attention, this was exactly the reason why I actually didn’t want to join them for dinner tonight. I hadn’t told Wanda about it because I didn’t want to disappoint her, she does so much for me, this is the least I can do to repay her. Allowing her to have dinner with her friends, her family. But now that I am standing here, having so many pair of eyes staring at me, the only thing I feel is my heartbeat going up and my breathing starting to go quicker than it should. I can see Wanda her head snap in my direction, she probably heard everything I was thinking, and she was probably annoyed at me for keeping something like that from her. Just when I’m at the point of turning around and running out of here, Natasha speaks up: “Are you all going to stare at her like it’s the first time ever you see a female in the compound? Pretty sure I’m a woman, and so is Wanda, Carol, Pepper…” The people blink and turn their heads towards Natasha. Steve is the one who speak up. “It’s not that Nat, it’s just that…” “That each and every soul in here is an absolute moron?” Natasha interrupts his sentence and raises one of her eyebrows at him. “You all met her already, there’s nothing new about it. Now eat before I kick each and every one of you out of here.” I hear a couple of people mumble in protest but they start to eat anyway. I shoot Natasha a quick smile, and she nods back at me. However, the guy sitting next to Steve says: “Well I haven’t met her before. Steviewevie here forgot to tell me there was flesh blood in the compound.” He gives me a big and playful grin which tells me that he doesn’t mean his words in a bad way. I give him a shy smile and hold Wanda’s hand even tighter. “Let’s grab some food milyy, than we can sit down and talk if you feel up to it.” I nod and follow Wanda to the counter where the food is waiting on us. It’s spaghetti. “Seriously guys, spaghetti again?” Wanda says, giving a fake moan of dissatisfaction. “Let me guess… Clint, Daisy, and Val… you did the cooking?” Soft laughter goes around the table after which Vision says: “Actually I also joined them, I am certain that I’m getting better at making edible food.” Wanda snickers at his statement, and says: “Please tell me that the sauce is homemade at the least?” Clint raises his shoulders and lets them fall down again. “I mean, if warming a bottle of sauce counts as homemade then yeah, sure it is.” Carol, who is sitting next to him, laughs and gives him a playful punch against his shoulders. “You should be embarrassed Clint, what would Laura say if she heard this?” She asks. Clint makes a painful face and Natasha replies to the other woman’s question: “She would probably say that that’s the reason why she doesn’t allow him to cook when he’s back home at the barn.” Everybody in the rooms laughs at Natasha’s comment and I can’t help but chuckle along. “Thanks a lot Nat.” Clint says while giving her a annoying look. “Awww, you’re welcome bro.” She gives him the most fake-innocent smile possible and Clint laughs when he sees this. “Lidiya?” I turn my head at Wanda, who looks at me with a questioning look. “Uhm I’m sorry Wanda, I wasn’t listening.” My cheeks are turning red when I realize that my attention was elsewhere. “That’s perfectly fine malysh (baby), I asked you if you are okay with spaghetti?” I nod at her. “Uhm yeah sure, it’s been ages since I last ate it.” Wanda grabs a plate and scoops up some food for me, being careful not to put too much on my plate. It will take quite some time before I can eat proper portions again. “Want some cheese with that?” My eyes light up when I hear her question. “Oh yes please! I love cheese! It was something really expensive when I was young so we didn’t have it often. Sometimes I stole a little piece of cheese from the market.” I tell her, memories flooding my mind. “One extra portion of cheese coming right up.” She smiles, after which she drops a lot of cheese on my plate. When she’s done she makes a plate for herself. I look at the group of people sitting at the table and try to recognize all of them. Obviously there was Clint, Natasha and Carol. Steve was sitting next to the unknown man, and Tony, Pepper and Morgan were also sitting together. Valkyrie was there, Vision, and Daisy. Bruce was sitting next to Sam. It was one big supernatural family.
The two of us walk towards the table. We take the seats in front of Steve and the other guy, they were empty for some reason. “FitzSimmons?” Wanda asks Steve and he nods. “They always leave extremely fast, probably going back to one of their projects.” He explains when he sees my confused look. Wanda is sitting on my right side and left of me is Pepper. She gives me a warm smile when I sit down next to her, but isn’t forcing me to talk to her for which I am very grateful. The voice of the unknown guy draws my attention back to him. “I’m Bucky aka the Winter Soldier, by the way. Ex super soldier who used to be owned by Hydra, a top spy, but now I’m just my awesome self.” I hear Natasha scoff at his words, she is sitting on his other side, and says: “I’m a much better spy than you are.” He simply laughs at her words, not denying them. Natasha clearly already finished eating but she doesn't bother getting up, simply using Clint once again as a footrest. He’s ignoring it while talking to Carol, presumably about the pasta sauce. But all of that didn’t matter, because the guy sitting diagonally across of me is the Winter Soldier… Which immediately reminded me of Strucker trying the program on me and failing. “You’re the Winter Soldier?” I ask him, a little bit shocked about his revelation. I don’t know what I expected of the guy called the Winter Soldier, but it was certainly more… death and destruction. Not this man with brown eyes and a contagious smile. “Yes I am, the one and only. Who is asking?” This is clearly him trying to get to who I am. “I’m Lidiya.” I tell him, his eyes get a little bit bigger when I say this, clearly asking me to tell them more. "I’m 17, I got captured by Hydra when I was 9, when my whole home burned down to the ground but I survived. We don’t know how or why, but somehow being in that fire gave me fire power. Gave me control over this specific element.” I stop for a second, giving myself the time to take a breath. Bucky doesn’t interrupt me, he simply watches me with complete fascination. “They tried the Winter Soldier program on me, wanting to have a fire bender under their control. But for some reason it didn’t work, it never worked. The only thing it gave me was pain. A couple of weeks ago some of the Avengers saved me from Hydra’s claws.” I look for Wanda's comfort in my mind and immediately I can feel her warm presence going through me. I relish it. Bucky looks at me and whistles. “You were capable of resisting the Winter Soldier program? That’s extraordinary. You must have a lot of power inside of you little one, I’m very curious to see where you will end up." I don’t care where I end up, as long as it’s with Wanda. She must have heard my thoughts though because she looks at me with a confused and at the same time warm look. After this she brings her attention to Bucky. “So, how did the mission go?” Immediately Bucky starts talking about his latest mission and Steve joins them within a couple of seconds. Natasha also chips in, even if it's just to point out to Bucky that she would have done it so much better. I simply look at the four of them talking excitedly and take a bite of my food. It’s delicious and I can’t help but feel at home for the first time in years.
“So, since I got back, I think it’s time for game night!” Bucky calls out and while Tony enthusiastically outs his approval, I can hear Wanda moaning next to me and can see Natasha roll her eyes. “You really think that’s necessary Buck? I mean, you just got back.” Steve is making a weak attempt in getting Bucky to change his mind, and as expected the man was having none of it. He makes a dismissive wave with his hand and says: “Come on guys, it’s been ages! And I’m sure none of you had the decency of throwing a drinking game in honor of Lidiya, right?” The last part of the sentence is directed at me and I shake my head at him, while blushing. “Good, it’s decided! Let’s move over to the living area.” People are starting to get up, and since everybody is putting their plates and cutlery into a dishwasher, I follow their example. I can see Natasha and Carol collecting alcohol, while Steve is trying his best to carry the glasses. Wanda sees this and with a slight move of her fingers the glasses start flying through the air in a mist of red. Steve gives her a thankful smile, it was clear that they wouldn’t have survived otherwise. Pepper is giving Tony a soft kiss and I can hear her say: “I’m going to go put Morgan in bed, have fun without me but don’t forget you have a mission tomorrow.” I can see Tony wave away Pepper’s worries and he bends down to take his daughter into a big hug. Daisy and Bruce are waking together towards the couches, talking about some unknown subject. Vision excuses himself, saying that since he can't drink there is no real point in him staying. Val walks towards the stables, not joining us, and Sam tells Steve that he has to stay sober for the mission tomorrow so that he too is leaving the group. I can hear Bucky picking out some music in the other room, and Clint is slowly trying to leave without being seen. “Hey!” Carol shouts out and Clint freezes in his tracks, being caught. “Where do you think you’re going?” She asks him with her hands on her waist. “Oh, just making a phone call to Laura, nothing more.” He does his best to look as innocent as possible but Carol simply orders him into the other room and walks after him, to make sure he's not running away. Wanda and I follow and before we know it, we’re sitting down on one of the very comfortable couches in the living area. Wanda opened her legs, pulling me in between them. That way my back is resting against her chest and I can feel her breathing against my neck. With a wave of her hands there is a blanket covering us and making it all snuggy. Natasha is sitting at my feet, and after giving me a questioning look and me giving her an approving one, she placed my feet on her legs. “Oi, I thought that was my job.” I can hear Clint mope and Nat simply says: “Are you seriously complaining right now about that fact that you’re not getting used as a feet holder? That’s pretty pathetic Barton.” After hearing the group laugh with him, he takes the one person couch next to Natasha and sits down without saying another word. Next to him are sitting Tony and Bruce, honestly I had almost forgot Bruce was here at all because he is so quiet, and then there’s another couch with Steve and Bucky on it. Than last but not least, there is another three person couch which is occupied by Carol, Loki –when did he get here?- and Daisy. It’s a warm group full of people who like each other, and I try my best to be worthy of their judgment.
“So, first: the rules. I will start. I have to sing a song about a team member. The first one to guess who we are singing about wins, and they choose what shot we will be drinking… Everybody has to drink. The winner can skip if he or she wants. However, you win, than you got to sing.” A couple of people sigh at his explanation, and a couple of them nod as a sign they understand. Bucky gets up and starts singing with a big grin on his face. “Okay now putt your ass on my dick, and pose that shit. Okay now freak my shit, freak my shit, bitch freak my shit. I said I’m about the fuck who I’m dancing with…” “Loki!” Natasha calls out and the entire room goes “oooooh!”. Bucky points towards Natasha with a big grin on his face. “Right you are Widow!” She raises her eyebrow at him but doesn’t comment on the nickname. Loki has the biggest of grins plastered on his face. “Well, they always love it. And I mean, you can even fuck them while you’re dancing…” He stops his sentence when everybody makes noise in an attempt to not have to hear what he was saying. “Well, vodka it is people!” Nat says and I can hear a lot of people moan. “Really Nat, starting strong are we?” Carol asks with a grin and Natasha returns it. “Of course, otherwise where would the fun be in this game? And of course I’m going to drink too.” " like it." Daisy comments. Wanda turns towards me and looks into my eyes. “Did you ever have alcohol before?” She asks and I shake my head. “I do want to try it…” She softly smiles at me and turns towards Bucky. “Lidiya has never had alcohol before, so I’m going to give her small glasses to start with.” Bucky simply nods in agreement, but Steve interferes. “Uhm, you guys do realize she is only 17, right? She is not allowed to drink yet…” Bucky gives him an annoyed but playful punch against Steve’s shoulder. “Come on, let the girl have some fun. She’s been through enough shit already and deserves it. Wanda is even giving her smaller portions.” Steve simply huffs his disagreement but doesn’t react and he watches Wanda, who is handing me a glass with a clear fluid inside of it. I smell the drink and I’m met with an intense aroma. Wanda clicks her glass against mine and says “Kambala (cheers)!” after which she downs her drink within a couple of seconds. She puts her glass down and looks expectedly at me. I take a deep breath and drink the glass in one go. Immediately I’m met with a very sweet taste. It’s not bad but it’s not my favorite either. “Go girl!” I suddenly hear Natasha's voice and see the rest of the group cheering me on. When I put the glass back on the table I have a big and stupid grin on my face. “Okay, so now it’s my turn to sing…” Natasha says with an annoyed look on her face. “You know I’m not going to do that right?” I definitely saw that coming. “Come on Natasha, the rules demand it!” Tony calls out and the rest of the group agrees with him. She simply rolls her eyes and starts singing, even though it was a lot more talking than singing. “Looking at me like Captain. They threat me, like Captain. Know where I’m going like Captain. Show up where I want like Captain. Everywhere I go I’m captain.” For a moment it’s quiet in the room, and I can see Carol and Steve looking at each other like they are ready to go for the kill. “… You really had to do that didn’t you, Nat?” Clint sighs and Natasha simply smiles. “I mean, I’m just following the rules.” Everybody is staring at each other, like they are scared to be the first one to talk. “It’s Carol.” The origin of the voice talking is Wanda, and I look at her in surprise. Did she read Natasha’s mind to get the answer? Probably not, I Natasha doesn't let anybody in and neither will Wanda enter somebody’s mind without asking. Expect me… I smile and press myself a little bit closer against her chest. Natasha nods, confirming Wanda’s answer. While Carol has a big grin across her face, Steve looks a little bit grumpy. “Knew it would make you upset old guy.” She says while winking at him, which results in Bucky laughing when he sees Steve’s expression. “You know what Romanoff?” Steve starts but nobody will ever know what Natasha had to know because Carol’s voice yells: “What are we drinking?!” into the room. Wanda smiles and says: “Tequila.” “That’s more like it!” Tony replies and everybody nods their agreement. Wanda presents me with a very small glass this time, once again the fluid inside of it has no color, it’s simply clear. Wanda takes my hand and gives it a small lick, I honestly can’t believe my eyes and my heartbeat is going way up, after which she pours a little bit of salt on it. “First you lick the salt, then you drink and then you bite into this piece of lemon. Got it?” I nod at her, still trying to get my heart rate back under control. “Cheers!” Carol says and everybody drinks their shots. I lick the salt Wanda has plastered on my hand and drink. For a moment it feels as if my throat is on fire and I have to use all of my willpower to not start coughing. Before I know what is happening Wanda places a lemon in my mouth and gives me a wink. “Never forget step three darling.” I blush and bite into the fruit she gave me, after which I threw it in the bowl on the table meant for garbage. Wanda coughs to get people their attention and starts singing. “Black bird, black moon. Black sky, black light. Black, everything black. Black heart. Black keys, black diamonds. Black out, everything black.” Her voice is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t help but stare at her. “Natasha.” The words leave my mouth before I even realize it, and immediately I look down, embarrassed for speaking up. “Yes.” Wanda replies and I look up again, being met by her stunning green eyes looking into mine. “Awesome, good job Lidiya!” Carol says excitedly, giving me a playful wink when I look at her. It’s cute, but it doesn’t do anything to me. “Now tell us Lidiya, what do we have to drink?” I think for a moment, looking at all the options on the table. “What do you think Wanda?” I ask, unsure about what to say. I only know about tequila and vodka, the things they have just introduced me to. “What about some whiskey? It’s more sophisticated, just like you are.” I blush and give her a smile. “Yeah, that. Whiskey.” Everybody drinks and even though I don’t have to, I take a small sip. I’m met with a soft and subtle taste, I like it. I notice my head feeling a little bit weird. Not in an uncomfortable way and nothing too bad, it just feels… Different than normally. “Now you have to sing.” Bucky reminds me, and I look around hoping for a miracle. “Nat?” I say, pleading for her help with me eyes. She simply shakes her head. “I had to do it, and so do you.” “Urgh, traitor. Fine.” I think for a couple of seconds after which I begin. It probably was the alcohol which gave me the courage to actually sing, even though it was quietly. “Apologize, I’m not a mind reader. I need attention, so I’m a crowd pleaser. It was easy ‘til I got a little deeper. Now I don’t know how to deal with you. So I’ma disappear. I’m a ghost, now you see me now you don’t…” I can hear Wanda laughing from behind me, and when I reach the word ‘don’t’ she actually disappears from behind me, which causes me to tumble back a bit. She reappears next to the drinks, saying “I think that’s about me.”She has a playful smirk on her face. Natasha simply rolls her eyes and Loki says: “Hey, I’m also capable of doing that.” He gives me one of the most charming smiles every, but honestly I don’t care. I’m more interested in Wanda’s playful smirk. Carol gives him a sympathetic pat on his shoulders. “Poor Loki, is Lidiya not giving you enough attention?” He mumbles his agreement but I keep my attention on Wanda. “Yes, it’s you. I know you’ve just been but I didn’t really have much inspiration. Sorry.” Bucky holds out his hand and says “No sorry needed, you are actually participating in the game and that’s awesome. I’m really enjoying myself and I have an excuse to drink so all is fine.” I laugh at his words, and Wanda says: “Another tequila shot guys!” She snaps her fingers and reappears behind me, offering me the tiny glass. “I didn’t know you could do that.” I tell her, still wowed by Wanda’s performance. “There’s a lot of things that I can do and that you don’t know about yet.” She whispers in my ear. I’m pretty sure that everybody can see my ears turning red. I take the glass she is offering me and drink it in one go, this time not forgetting the third step. Wanda rearranges the blanket over us so that I'm covered again. “So, my turn to sing… Again.” Wanda is thinking for a couple of seconds, as if she is considering her options. She must have decided because suddenly she starts singing with a mischievous smile on her face. “I’m not shy, I’ll say it. I’ve been picturing you naked. I’m a little faded, you look like a fucking painting.” “That’s about Lidiya.” Tony’s voice interrupts Wanda her singing and she stops, giving him an approving look. “Right you are Stark.” When the realization hits me that that song was about me, my cheeks once again turn into a deep red color. Natasha wobbles her eyebrows at me and I let out a soft chuckle. I bow my head, in an attempt of ignoring the group’s stares. Which isn’t working of course. “Now, time for some margarita’s!” Tony says, and I’m left alone with the lyrics of that song in my head.
I don’t know what time it is or how much time has passed since we began playing that game. All I know is that I must have drank too much, but I did have the time of my life. It was awesome, and I loved spending every minute with Wanda. Right now the two of us are walking to my room and she is supporting me, just in case. I’m giggling every time I fall over my own feet. “Poor malysh (baby), you’ll regret this in the morning.” I'm not sure what she means. When we reach my bedroom she helps me out of my clothes, ingoing my drunken complaints. “I can undress myself red witch.” I moan, but she just laughs at my pathetic attempts. She puts me into bed and joins me, using the blankets to cover us. When she notices I’m actually still awake, and didn't go knock out as soon as my head hit the pillows, -as she expected- she pulls me close to her and wraps her arm around me. With her other hand she shoots some of her magic in the sky. It’s so beautiful, like a tiny bunch of fireworks. No, a bunch of red fireflies would be a better comparison. The red lights are going through the entire room, making everything warm and cozy. I squeal as if I’m an excited two year old, but it truly makes me happy. Wanda laughs at my happy face, taking in how my eyes light up with joy. With that feeling I go knock out, feeling warm and protected by the Scarlet Witch.
Never have I ever, felt so
