Chapter 16
Demons
‘Fantastic!’ Hope jumped around twirling in the room that she had created inside Rogue’s mind.
‘So your telling me as long as I keep this door closed my powers are not active.’ Hope shrugged then turned to Rogue.
‘Hypothetically speaking although it is possible that maybe not.’ Rogue sighed it had been two days of this going back and forth.
‘So should I test it then?’ The exasperation in Rogue’s thoughts was ignored by Hope as she shrugged evaluating the room more.
‘Oh yes!’ Suddenly everything went black and Rogue almost fell over again. Every time that Hope hijacked her she was always in the middle of something and when they returned little to no time had passed. Rogue had been in the middle of eating lunch this time and she laid down the sandwich uneaten.
“Come Rogue.” Hope no older then 12 was pulling her away from the table and as she stumbled after her she wondered where they were going.
“Where…” Hope pulled her out of the kitchen and down the hall. Rogue could only guess where Hope was leading her but it became clear when they rounded the corner and walked out on the balcony to find Remy leaning against the railing.
“Now go try it!” Rogue shook her head and walked over to Remy.
“Remy.” Turning around he smiled and laid his hands on her shoulders.
“Ah ma petite! How goes it?” Rogue had no way of asking if she could try so she stepped closer and kissed him softly on the lips just a few seconds and stepped back. “Chere?” Rogue just stared at him excitement traveled through her, there had been no pull of her power. Rogue grabbed Remy and pulled him to her kissing him deeply. There was no draw of her powers and as she pulled him closer wrapping her arms around him she found that she was no longer scared. Once they stopped for a breath it finally dawned on Remy. “Remy not dead.” Rogue laughed and then couldn’t stop.

It had been two days and things had changed so much between Ororo and Logan. Ororo’s foggy memory were still not clearing up and Ororo was beginning to wonder if it ever would. Ororo was sitting on the porch a warm mug of tea in her hands. Logan told her that everyone had opted to leave the two of them alone. Although Ororo missed the school she was also enjoying the time away. Especially since that moment they seemed in sync with each other. Ororo had no words for it as she sipped her tea she tried to explore her foggy memories but again her head started to throb. Shaking her head she let it fade away.
“Problem?” Ororo glanced over at Logan who stood at the door shirtless in jeans. An eyebrow lifted as she admired him and sipped her tea.
“My memories are not returning.” Ororo spoke and took another sip of tea.
“Well we can explore them together if you like.” Logan said as he picked up the orb and walked over to her.
“Whenever I try my head hurts.” Ororo’s words were soft and she glanced away from him.
“Then maybe we will try mine.” Logan spoke which caused Ororo’s eyes to widen. “I have no desire to hide things from you. You know most of my past already.” Ororo nodded, her own past was dark. It was not something that she often wished to speak of but long before her powers emerged she had done things.
“How would that work?” Logan shrugged at her question and flipped the orb over showing her a button.
“When I gave it to you I was the one pressing the button and placing it in your hand. So maybe whoever holds it gets to go in the other persons mind.” Ororo nodded in the past two days Logan had spoken to her more than all the time they had spent together. When they were apart she felt the agitation in him as her own. The first day it was strange where she could feel him wherever he went and vise versa. They had agreed that it was not something that they would share with anyone else but there were moments where she wondered if this is what it was like to have a pack mentality. Not that they shared thoughts or anything it was like they could feel each other’s emotions an extension of oneself. That was why he could never surprise her now it was an advantage that she enjoyed knowing where he was and what he was feeling.
“What do you find so pleasing?” Logan tilted his head as he spoke. Ororo smiled and sipped more of her tea.
“That I will always know where you are and how your feeling.” The smug smile stayed in her eyes as she took another sip of her tea.
“It goes both ways.” The look in Logan’s eyes was mischievous. Ororo waved a hand and reached for the orb.
“Are you sure that you want to show me your memories?” Ororo watched Logan carefully but there was no concern in his eyes or in his feelings. Logan laughed and leaned forward this side of him was much different then what she was used to.
“Yes darlin.” That was the end of the conversation so Ororo pushed the button and placed it in Logan’s hand.
———————-
When Ororo opened her eyes she was alone in a thick forest as she looked around she found a pair of eyes staring out of the darkness. Normally some kind of fear would have resonated but she knew who it was and felt the warmth from him. Out of the wooded forest stepped a wolf, larger then any wolf she had ever seen with bright blue eyes and black fur. It stepped forward and nudged her hand.
“So my wonderful heart where do we go from here?” She knelt and scratched his head. The beast enjoyed her attention for a moment before turning away from her and strolling into the forest from which he had emerged. Careful steps followed the large creature leading her to a meadow. There in the center of the meadow stood Logan and a large mirror. Ororo smiled and as she drew closer she noticed that the mirror had no reflection. “So what’s this?”
“I figured that this might be the least jarring way for you to experience my memories.” Ororo smiled and nodded in thank you. Logan motioned to chairs that had not been there a moment before. The mirror was large, larger then a Television but smaller then a theater and it was just standing there vertically without any assistance.
“You have a pretty good handle on your mind.” Logan smiled but shook his head at Ororo’s words.
“Its better now that me and…” Logan paused and smiled. “The wolf are on the same page.”
“Its clear to me now that what so many people saw as the animal or beast, is actually the most wondrous part of you.” Ororo scratched the wolf’s head once more and it growled softly. For a moment Ororo felt them both separately but together. They watched from Logan’s perspective what happened.
Ororo watched in silence from moment to moment what happened. Each scene worse then the last but as the last picture faded from view Ororo gently strummed her fingers on the chair. Suddenly she was aware of everything and nothing.
“Well at least I didn’t kill anyone.” Ororo’s words were soft she had been devious. Devious in ways she had thought about rarely on her darkest days but they were swept away. Swept away into the deepest darkest parts of her memories the ones she daren't tread through. Ororo shook her head she never wanted to go back there. Laughter echoed around them, thunderous laughter and they turned together to face a beautiful but dangerous sight. A woman, Ororo, but not her stood or rather floated in the meadow wind blowing around her. Hair straight in the air highlighted with purple and her eyes were purple to match the color of the brewing storm in the foreground. Her arms hung loosely at her side and she wore a purple dress that flowed around her.
“So you don’t want to know what the darkest part of your soul is capable of?” The laughter from the purple Ororo continued to echo in the meadow. Lightning cracked behind her and she lifted her hand stretching the fingers and Ororo looked behind her at Logan and the Wolf who were both frozen she stepped forward to face herself.
“Release them!” Ororo’s anger began to boil over at this impostor.
“I am no impostor dear one. I am you. The darkest part of you, the part that holds those memories. If you want them you will have to come and get them.” The fake Ororo pulled back her hands and threw lightning and it hit Ororo. Never before had she felt the feeling of shock, it was always pleasure never pain. But this time it hit her square in the chest throwing her back into a tree. Although it was just inside Logan’s mind she still felt the pain as if it was real. Again the laughter echoed all around her. “Is that all you have? Are you going to give up?” The fake Ororo glided over to Logan and the wolf. Running a finger over Logan’s jaw she leaned in close enough to whisper but Ororo still heard. “You see she is weak she will never be able to handle your love forever. Me on the other hand I can handle your darkness and your wolf.” The fake Ororo reached for the wolf and a growl rumbled from its depths not wanting to be touched by something that wasn’t real. The fake Ororo laughed again heartily and watched as Ororo stood shakily and her eyes turned white but before she could strike there was a blast of wind. “Keep on trying to conjure that wind darlin.” Fake Ororo used the word that Logan liked to refer to her with. “Hold on to your anger like always.” This time fake Ororo leaned her head on Logan’s chest. “By the way it was a nice idea to be in your head but you don’t have a meadow this pretty in that brain of yours and I wasn’t going to let her leave here without a battle.” Again she threw a buffet of wind at Ororo. Logan grunted unable to speak. “As much as I would enjoy playtime with you I have to take care of her first.” Fake Ororo snapped her fingers, Logan and the wolf were gone.
“What did you do!?” Ororo screamed standing shaking softly. Again the thunderous laughter.
“Does it matter you won’t be around long enough to care!” The wind threw Ororo into the mirror and it shattered around her causing little cuts all over her body. The scream echoed over the room. “Goddess will you not learn that your powers are not something you can conjure they are at your fingertips! Always! Like an extension of yourself! Do not hold back!” Fake Ororo flicked her hand and two tornados descended from the sky Ororo looked around her.
“NO!” Fake Ororo glided in close to Ororo.
“Does that bother you? Knowing you might not have control in the real world? Knowing that your powers are out of control? The school? Oh no the school!” Fake Ororo held her hand up to her mouth her eyes began to glow purple. Looking up at the sky and within seconds the whole scene changed. The wind picked up rain began and within seconds it was a full blown hurricane around them.
“NO! Stop!” The fake Ororo leaned in closer.
“No,” She said to Ororo. “You stop it!” The wind whipped at her and tears rolled down her cheek from anger or hurt it didn’t matter.
“No, I will not loose control.” The answering words came from all around her.
“If you do not let loose then you really have lost.” The words echoed over and over and over again. Ororo’s body bunched up feeling all the anger and rage. When she screamed she let everything go sending out waves and waves of air blasting everything away. Now Ororo was gliding and her body clad in a white dress and it flowed in the air she turned to the fake Ororo an exact opposite. “Finally!” Ororo lifted her hand and stretched her fingers wind flying and raking across the fake Ororo and her laughter echoed again. “Come on you can do better then that! All the weather at your command! Come on get creative.” Ororo’s eyes flashed and again she sent the wind but it was with shards of ice slicing up the fake Ororo. “Much Better!” The fake Ororo spit out blood and then threw lightening which Ororo just caught and threw back. It struck the fake Ororo in the chest throwing her back onto the ground. Ororo floated over and dropped to the ground looking down at herself.
“Why?” Ororo looked down at the other side of herself with cautious eyes.
“So that you would finally have clear eyes.” The fake Ororo coughed. “My preverbal death, the moment you realized your full potential. You kept it all locked away under a mask of ice. Even at the darkest part of your mind you knew that you did not have complete control.” Ororo shook her head but the fake continued. “If you had full control then your emotions would never be a threat. You could get angry truly angry and never have to worry about an F5 tornado or a blizzard. Or the neat creations that you can dream up. Your powers are only limited by the environment and your own imagination.” Again the fake Ororo coughed. “Remember what you have learned take it with you…” Then the fake Ororo was gone and Ororo closed her eyes the memories flashing before her.
—————
Slowly Ororo opened her eyes to three long blades pressed against her neck.
“Logan,” Ororo spoke slowly and he evaluated her with one of his looks trying to determine who had woken up but after a moment he let his hand fall. “It’s okay.” Logan released a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
“What happened?” Fingers caressed her face and she leaned into them, Ororo took a deep breath and wrapped her arms around him.
“I had to face my demons.”
