Chapter 14
Inner Conflicts-- Part 14
Inner Conflicts
Part 14
Kurt stood a few feet away from his table, nervousness coming back ten-fold.
All morning long he had tried to talk himself into telling the others
about Lance.
Well. . .
. .. the tutoring part, anyway.
He took a deep breath and stepped forward.
Evan and Scott welcomed him with their smile, as Kitty continued talking
about some fashion disaster that some girl wore that day. Jean,
surprisingly, was with them. Guess she had enough of Duncan for the week.
Of course, that made things even harder. If she picked up on anything
else. . .
Maybe he should forget about
Th
Then again, Lance had winked at him earlier that day.
What if Lance spoke first.
No! He had to do this.
Kurt looked up at everyone, not knowing where to begin.
"So, how's tutoring going?" Kitty asked.
Well, that was one way.
"Um, fine," answered Kurt, dropping his glance. "A little difficult.
He gets too distracted. Easily." Kurt tried to fight off the blush threatening
to appear. Distracts me, too, dammit. "But his grades
are improving. He should be okay soon." Or at least, I hope so.
Then I can safely stay away from him.
Scott snorted. "Are we ever going to find out who this person
is?"
Kurt. "Funny you should ask," he said, with a nervous laugh. He
scratched the back of his head. "Um, it's. . . it's, Lancevers. . ."
"Who?" asked Evan, unable to decipher Kurt's mumble.
"Lance. . . Alvers," Kurt repeated.
"WHAT?!"
Nearby students turned to see what the scandal was. Seeing nothing
special, they went back to their everyday conversations and lunches.
Kurt picked at his sandwich. "Lance. Avalanche. Few inches taller
than me," Kurt continued, trying to sound jokeful.
"Like, no way!" squealed Kitty. "He hasn't mentioned anything
about that to me." Then she frowned. "Actually, he hasn't spoken much to
me."
"Good," muttered Scott, earning a glare from Kitty.
"Man, that must suck," said Evan. "He bothering you?"
You have no idea. . .
"Nein. He. . . he's focused."
On me, apparently.
Kurt realized it was hard playing it cool when one's mind started thinking
on its own.
"See! He can't be that bad if he's willing to learn," said Kitty, defending
her most obvious crush.
Kurt just wanted to melt.
"I. . . I think it's nice if you two are getting along," said Jean.
"He's not buggin ya, is he?" asked Rogue.
"He's trying to be. . . nice," Kurt responded.
"He hasn't said or did anything to hurt you, has he?"
Kurt froze. "Uh. . .he hasn't. . . insulted me, or anything."
God, this was a bad idea. He shouldn't have listened to Lance's suggestion.
A moment later, everyone got quiet as a shadow fell over the table.
"Hey, Summers," said an annoyingly taunting voice.
"Alvers," growled Scott.
"Well?"
Kurt slowly turned to look up at Lance's questioning eyes. He sighed.
"Ja."
Lance grinned. "Good. In that case. . ." He slammed a math book down
between Kurt and Evan and practically forced Evan to move aside. "I
am having trouble with problem 25. That's what I did. What am I doing
wrong?" Lance flipped the math book to a page and slapped down a sheet with
pencil scrawls all over it. He pointed to a spot on the page before turning
to Kitty.
"Hey, Kat," he said, winking at her.
Kurt, in the meantime, froze. An ugly feeling rose in him.
The same one that rose each time Kitty gushed about how cool Lance was an
how she giggled and got all dreamy like. . . only, slightly different.
For one brief moment, everything seemed normal. His hatred in what
Lance had been able to accomplish because he looked normal.
His first love would always be Kitty. . . and even though he never had her,
he hated Lance for taking her away from him.
But then again, he now belonged to Lance too. After all, the bastard
took a part of him that dreadful night.
Claimed it was love.
Well, if it was love, why was he flirting with Kitty?
Kurt suddenly felt cold.
My God, am I jealous of Kitty now?
He became aware of the strange look that Jean shot him. Oops. He
must have leaked out some interesting emotions.
Kurt immediately began building up his mental walls again, as he tried to
focus on the problem before him.
His attention was diverted again when he felt a hand graze his tail that
was wrapped around his waist.
Glancing down, his eyes widened when he saw Lance's hand by his waist, moving
his pinky up and down, touching his tail. . . as he continued to flirt with
Kitty!
Kurt tried to ignore him him.
It was a little hard considering that Scott was throwing Lance death glares
and Rogue was scowling, making herself look even more gloomy.
And Lance's damn had was now grazing his thigh!
It took most of Kurt's effort to not jump up and move away. To do so
would attract a lot of unwanted attention. But why was no one else
noticing this?
Probably because they were too busy trying to ignore the sappiness coming
from Kitty and Lance.
Kurt spotted where Lance went wrong despite the fact that he was seething
with anger.
A moment later, all anger turned to shock when he felt Lance's hand dip between
his legs.
"Ack!" he yelped, jumping up.
Everyone turned to look at him, including Lance.
Kurt felt his face heat up. There was no way he'd tell anyone what Lance
just did!
"I just remembered I forgot to finish an assignment," he lied. "Um, there,
that's vhere you vent wrong. You forgot to subtract f." K." Kurt pointed
out on the sheet of paper as he laid it down in front of Lance. "I
have to go."
Kurt hurried away, leaving his lunch abandoned.
Lance smirked as he turned and continued to talk to Kitty, much to Scott's
displeasure, and everyone's discomfort.

"Hey, Blue!" Tabitha called out, before stepping out of Kurt's way.
She frowned. Surprisingly, the German teen walked right by her as if
he didn't see her. That's strange, she thought to herself.
She turned to face the direction he had come from and froze.
Lance was hanging with the geek squad.
Could he be considering going back to them?
I thought it proved to much trouble for him. Then again, Kitty was
blushing. He was probably there to flirt with her. Tabitha looked back.
Poor Blue. Still must have a thing for her. She shook her head.

The school bell rang, signaling the end of the lunch period.
Lance got up and said his good byes to Kitty. And just for the heck of it,
Summers.
He turned and walked towards his class, feeling good.
He'll be studying with Kurt again tonight, and he'll be able to continue
his chase.
