I suppose I am back to updating often again - took me a while to get back in the spirit after vacation turned me into a lazy veggie. Glad to see I got another review and glad to see the story 'hits' going up too. I suppose it keeps me from being selfish and just keeping the chapters on my hard drive.
Was racking my brain for things that would only further to entertain my evilness as far as Kurt and Kate were concerned and I think I found a solution. Until next time~ _______________________________________________ Kate was beginning to lose track of how many times she’d woken up in places besides her own bed. This time had to be one of her least favorite; she laid naked, chest-down against a smooth metal table. She didn’t imagine that she’d been there long since the metal was still unbearably cold and her skin just started to tighten as goose-bumps formed. Being placed here may have very well been the event that had woken her up. But where exactly was here? She remembered leaving the mansion, but not much else. The room she was in was large, from what she could see, and walls were bare and the machinery in the room made her feel like she was in an old Star-Trek movie – definitely not in Kansas. She groggily ran through her mind where she was until all doubt was removed by the appearance of Sinister and his evil glowy red eyes. “I don’t remember this being part of our agreement. ” He stopped by her side and lightly ran his fingertips over her back, “There’s been a change of plans.” “I wish I had known that before I went looking for you.” Kate did her best to suppress the urge to give into fear and cry. “I can’t say the same.” He had lifted his hand from her and turned his immediate attention to screen by the head of the table she’d been – she tested to see if she could move her arms; nope – strapped to. “I can’t imagine destroying a fortunate accident, such as yourself.” “Destroying?” She had resorted to singing songs in her head to calm her nerve; her 3rd verse of “this is the song that doesn’t end” seemed to be working. A smirk washed over his face, which she had deemed to never be possible, but there he was – thoroughly amused with something and it was likely at Kate’s expense. “I’m not going to kill you,” even though she was sure a ‘but’ was coming along, it was reassuring, “but I have no desire to send you backward.” “Backward? You mean you won’t undo it?” “Precisely.” He was tinkering with something outside of Kate’s peripheral vision and the uncertainty was trying all of Kate’s denial, “You may prove to be valuable.” “But, Beast said you’re only interested in mutants, you don’t-“ “I believe I successfully have removed you from the shrinking pool of humanity and forged a place for you with those of us who have evolved” “Ok, you’re sounding a bit like Hitler-“ He ignored her, and returned to her side with something in his hands. “You’re not human, Ms. Leander. The fact that you will pass on Nightcrawler’s abilities to your young is proof enough. But I am fascinated by your slight telepathic ability that neither you nor he possessed prior.” He had laid something on her back. It had a lot of weight to it and it felt warm; but it was certainly inanimate. “What are you going to do?” Her voice had yet to betray her, but tears wear steadily leaking out the sides of her eyes. “I’m going to let you go,” he pressed on her back and whatever was on her back had a subtle vibration to it. “And we are going to see if you, like other mutants, will continue to develop your abilities.” “I won’t,” her body was visibly shaking and it wasn’t from the cold, “I’ll gladly die.” “And that is what this is for.” Sinister had grown tired of her empty threats. “To keep that from happening.” “What?” She had the sneaky suspicion that whatever he put on her back she was really, really going to hate. “It’s a device that I repurposed for you. It’s meant to monitor your vitals and keep you from doing what you appear to be so keen on doing – dying.” “This is fucked-up.” She tried to pull herself free, but it was beyond futile. “It can monitor whatever the hell it wants, but I’m not fucking Kurt anymore, so unless you’ve found a way around that- you’re wasting your time.” “I’m aware of your delicate situation with ‘Kurt’” continued to press on her back, “and I’ve made adjustments.” He pushed the bottom of the device down and it pricked her skin. Moments after, clear fibers found their way into Kate. At first, she didn’t know what to make of the situation- it felt like pressure under her skin; it wasn’t painful, but it wasn’t comfortable either. Then as the fibers traveled up and down her spine and fanned out along her nervous system – the pain went from slight to unbearable. She screamed and bucked up against the restraints but it only served to send her crashing back to the table. “Stop it!” she yelled over and over, every nerve the fibers touched sent a wave of pain. “It’s not real,” Sinister spoke lowly, no desire to compete over her yelling to be heard, “pain is only your body telling your brain that it hurts.” As comforting as he may have found it to be, she had trouble comprehending anything he said – nor did she really care to. All at once the pain had ended and Kate had realized that somewhere in the process she had let go of her bladder and now the table wasn’t so cold. Her body was still in shock from the pain and it rendered her unable to focus on feeling ashamed that she had just pissed herself or screamed. But she was very aware of her mind feeling oddly pacified. “Subject BPM, 92. BP acceptable.” A robotic voice called out. It sounded close to her ear, but no one was near her and surely was not Sinister’s voice. “What the fuck?” “It’s programmed to prevent you from hitting brady and tachycardia which you are at risk of since your immune system is set on killing you. As long as you stay within acceptable limits, you’ll be fine.” “If I don’t?” “Defibrillation, tranquilization; anything as a means of preserving you.” He returned to the computer and unlocked the restraints on Kate’s arms and legs. She sat up- her modestly quickly returning to her. “You’re a monster.” “You say this because I’m saving you from death?” “No, I’m saying it because you have a goatee and you’re not giving me much of a choice.” “BPM increase- stand-by” Kate froze – unsure of what it meant. “Why is it doing that?” “System, stand-down.” “System?” “That is what it goes by. Address it as ‘system’ and then a command – no accidents that way.” “Fuck.” She eased herself off the table only to find that her legs had no desire to support her. He place her clothes on the head of the table and made his way towards the door. “I’d get cleaned up and dressed in the next few minutes. I’m sure Cyclops will be escaping and coming to rescue you shortly.” “Cyclops?” She had wondered if it was a monster or a mutant. “Scott Summers.” “I’ll rescue myself.” She grabbed a damp face-clothe that had been on a small side table attached to where she’d been strapped it and wiped her legs down. She felt awkward pulling her clothes on; mainly because every time she moved her back and shoulders throbbed and secondly because Sinister had stood by the door watching her. She was a little put off that her shoes were MIA, but before she could say anything the door had whooshed open. She looked up and Sinister stood in the doorway. “System, online.” “Acknowledged” it called out from Kate’s back. “System, shut up.” Kate yelled at it. “Unauthorized user- command denied.” “What good would it be if I gave you control of yourself?” Sinister jested before he left. The doors closed again and Kate ran to them hoping that maybe they would conveniently be like the one’s at the Mansion. She had no such luck but heard something on the other side of them and resolved to put her ear to the large metal doors. An explosion just a few feet from her head blasted through the wall and sent her backwards on her ass. She looked up to see it was Scott in all his pretty-boy glory but was unable to use the appropriate interjection as the wind had been knocked out of her. Scott wasted little time and rushed her up on her feet. The two had escaped with little or no trouble – but Scott had seemed proud of himself. When they emerged they were on the rooftop of a tall building and it was night. The lights from all the other building’s seemed peaceful in the dark and the harsh wind whipping past the two seemed to only add to the sensation of the worst was behind them. They had been picked up in the X-jet and a rather annoying and nauseating scene between Scott and Jean had taken place then. Kate kept her mouth shut – which was likely to arouse suspicion, but she hadn’t even had time to fully comprehend what had just happened. She was angry and getting angrier by the second. “Subj-“ The device had started by Kate pressed her back into the seat and it successfully muffled the rest of it. She strategically coughed and it seemed to go unnoticed. Now, she was left debating whether to come forward about Sinister’s new toy in hopes that they could remove it, or keep it to herself in fear that it was going to somehow be exploited. She heard her name spoken by someone else and it snapped her out of her thoughts. It was Jean who was bent over her and it appeared she’d been talking to her for some time. “Are you alright?” Sincere concern in her voice. She didn’t answer for a moment, a quick internal debate still raging on, “Yeah, I’m just tired.”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
