Kurt struggled to hold back tears as the wedding march began and the congregation rose and turned to see the doors open for his bride to walk in. Kitty looked absolutely radiant in her dress, and her smile was just for him. He could hardly believe it was really happening. Even with Beast beside him ready to perform the ceremony and the groomsmen and bridesmaids, not to mention the rest of the inhabitants of the mansion watching, he felt like it was just him and his beloved.
She had had butterflies in her stomach waiting to make her entrance, but now that she could see her fiancé and soon-to-be husband, they all went away. She felt like she was walking on air as she glided down the aisle to him. While her mother had been accepting of her choices, her father had not, and so it was Xavier himself giving her away. But even that felt right. Her mother and Moira MacTaggart were the only non-mutants in attendance. Beast and the Professor both smiled warmly as she was handed off to Kurt.
It was an interesting ceremony. They kept the Jewish tradition of breaking a glass under the groom’s foot, though Kurt had led Kitty to Christ not long before he had proposed. They had started attending a church for Messianic Jews, but he still couldn’t get her to go to Mass with him. Kurt had wanted a full Catholic wedding, but Hank was only ordained to perform a generic Protestant one. Now that the day had arrived, he was actually glad: the Catholic ceremony would have taken forever. Even so, he was hardly paying attention to the words, staring at his bride instead. Scott, as his best man, had to poke him after a long awkward silence when he was supposed to be saying “I do.” Inwardly, he sighed, knowing Kitty would never let him live that down.
It was soon time for the reception and everyone hit the dance floor. It was an interesting sight to see Beast dancing with her mom, Kitty had to admit. The party was a lot of fun. Rogue and Gambit caught the bouquet and garter and made a quick, embarrassed exit.
Eventually Kurt and Kitty Wagner took their leave. He carried his bride over the threshold of their hotel suite, beaming. They were lost happily in each others’ eyes, ready to begin their life together.
[A/N: That's all, folks, and thanks for reading! I may write some oneshot vignettes of the other couples on prom night, but right now I have a new idea bubbling and brewing so we'll see what comes out.]
