Chapter 12
Rise of the Storm
Dark Paths
As Gabriel pulled her out into the hall Ororo spoke harshly the way she would have to an unruly teenager.
"Did you ever think that maybe the reason that Charles didn't want you to come to the school was because he knew using your power would age you? Maybe he wanted you to have a normal as a life as you possibly could." Gabriel only tightened his grip at her words.
"Then why didn't he take Alex?"
"I don't know."
"Well since your the 'professor' now you will have to take responsibility for it." It didn't matter what Ororo said Gabriel was intent on destroying the school and everyone with it. By now they had reached the doors and he stopped turning towards her. "You will tell the students that the school is closing." Ororo shook her head.
"This school is the only safe place for them."
"Even though Magneto changed your history you still want to keep this place opened." Ororo narrowed her eyes.
"Magneto saved me and yes I will keep it open because this will be our base of operations." Gabriel smile widened even more, if such a thing was possible.
"Good it will give me all the more pleasure to destroy it." Gabriel waved a hand to someone behind Ororo. Raven stepped forward. "Take her up to the balcony and get Victor to help you tie her up."
"My pleasure." The last thing Ororo was aware of was the hit to the back of her head.

The wind wrapped around her a gentle embrace calling out her name. Speaking a thousand words but they were twisted and muffled by the buzzing in her ears. Arms wrapped around herself, her awareness of her surroundings widened. Releasing her shoulders, arms stretched violently outward pushing the winds and fog away showing what lay before her. Bodies lay everywhere, human bodies, no mutants. The way it should be.
"Beautiful isn't it." The voice was familiar to her, harsh but welcoming.
"There is no beauty in war." The other voice came from her right a gruff low voice that she knew was Logan.
"They deserved it you know." The first voice spoke again. Logan just grunted but did not speak. The only reason he remained was for her. "You have trained the X-men well I think they are ready for the final battle." Ororo smiled and raised her arms.
"The last thing standing between us and freedom is Raven Darkholme." Ororo spat the name out like it was poison on her lips. Ororo turned to face Magneto as another Mutant came running into the field.
"Storm!" Ororo turned her attention to Hope.
"Yes Phoenix."
"Its Vulcan, the blocks that were put in place to prevent him from aging have failed." Ororo's eyes widened and she grabbed Hope's hand. Gabriel had been in the other battlefield too far for Hope's ability to reach. The winds picked up and lifted them into the sky. It had taken Ororo years to learn how to get another person into the sky.
Reaching the other field Ororo landed next to Gabriel. Hope dropped to her knees next to Madelyne and they clasped hands.
"Ororo."
"Yes Gabriel." Ororo dropped to one knee by his head and waited.
"They took her." Gabriel passed out and Ororo looked up at Madelyne whose eyes were closed. Suddenly the world shifted and Ororo screamed.

Stinging was the first thing that came back to her, a slap, another one across her other cheek.
"Come on damn you wake up." Ororo opened her eyes slowly.
"Ouch." Raven breathed a sigh of releif.
"Sorry we don't have much time.”
"How long was I out?"
"Ten minutes." Raven looked over at Victor.
"He is already outside talking to them we only have so much time before he expects you to be up there." Ororo sighed.
"I wish you still had your powers." Raven looked over at Victor and he smiled back at her.
"Wish granted." Ororo looked up at Raven.
"For how long?"
"A day or so. I wasn't going to show anyone because I knew what kind of situation we might find ourselves in." Ororo nodded. Magneto would be very pleased to learn that Raven's powers had returned.
"Can you take my place?" Raven smiled and flipped a switch and suddenly she was Ororo.
"You better hurry though because I am still weak. Whatever plan you have you better put it into action." Ororo nodded turning and running down the hall. The dream flooded her thoughts for a moment as she ran. These dreams were they really of the future. What did Gabriel mean when he said Magneto changed her history. Ororo shook her head allowing the disturbing thoughts to slip away. All that mattered now was meeting Magneto and getting the X-men to join the Mutant Nation. Ororo ran towards the closest window that faced the back yard and opened it. The wind had picked up.
"How goes the battle my dear?" Magneto's voice came from her right.
"Gabriel is a rabid animal not fit for rule." Magneto nodded. "He will bring this place down on itself if we are not careful."
"I want this place unharmed I will make sure Charles's school stay's open. It is the least I can do." Ororo nodded.
"Then we must kill him." Magneto raised an eyebrow. It was something he never expected to hear out of her.
"My dear do you know why I chose you?" Ororo thought this was a weird time for such a question but indulged him none the less.
"Because of my ability with the weather."
"No because of your uniqueness even among our kind. You have great compassion for your own kind. What is it that this one needs?" Ororo thought for a moment.
"He wants to be young again." Magento nodded like he had already come to that conclusion. Then the answer hit her a smile came to her lips as she looked at Magneto. "You don't think that this is a bad idea?"
"Once he is his own age again his perception should change and he should be easier to handle. Besides don't you have someone else who can take control of someone's mind." It was a statement not a question. "Although it seems that Logan is not in the building, it seems he has gone to get our other companion, the Scarlet Witch." This gave Ororo pause. "But he is returning now." Magneto smiled Logan's special metal allowed him to track the Wolverines every move provided they were close enough.
"Then I will see if I can stall him. I could have her help him." Magneto only nodded as Ororo ran for her room where she was sure Mystique would be acting as her. The view from the balcony was a unique sight.
Gabriel was standing in front of the doors and from her position she could not see his face. But from the look on the students faces he had already revealed his motive. His words came to her on the wind.
"Now that you all, well most are out here I think its about time we get that fire going." The dark clouds had finally reached the mansion and the thunder rumbled above them. Lighting stuck behind Gabriel then again getting closer to the mansion. Kitty screamed when she realized where the lightening was going to hit first. "Oh yes I forgot Ororo will go up in flames with your precious school." Jean-paul, Jeanne-Marie and Warren stepped in front of the students. Warren spoke carefully.
"We all knew you were here to create trouble but destroy a home that was designed for mutants why would you want to do that?" Gabriel turned on Wa rren. While Gabriel was distracted Ororo tried to use her mutant powers to stop the lightening but his anger was too much. So she turned to pulling Mystique up and out of the line of fire.
"Figure out what your going to do?" Ororo nodded.
"Stall him until Logan gets back. His powers aren't like Rogue's but if I can get him to use Logan's healing and return him to his rightful age maybe his sanity will return." Mystique looked at her like she had two heads but said.
"What can I do?"
"Be Scott." Mystique raised an eyebrow.
"He doesn't believe that Scott is dead." Ororo turned and looked down at Gabriel. "So lets give him his dead brother." Ororo stepped up onto the balcony.
"Gabriel!" With a great effort of concentration she pushed the lightening that was coming down in front of him making sure she had his attention. When he turned towards her she smiled. "Now that I have your attention there is someone here who needs to say hi." Ororo held out her hand and from the darkness stepped Scott in jeans a black t-shirt and his classic shades.
"Hello brother." Gabriel took a step back.
"You said he was dead!"
"As you can see the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Gabriel closed his eyes a couple of times.
"No its not possible!" Gabriel took another step back then his eyes narrowed. "Good then I get to kill you too!" Gabriel looked to the sky and the thunder rumbled. As the lightening came down Ororo was able to slow it enough to push Mystique out of the way and used the wind to slow their descent to the ground. After this the fighting broke out. Bobby was the first to attack using his ice to freeze Gabriel's feet. As Evan projected spikes at him. Gabriel pulled Amara's ability to melt the ice and used it on the spikes to turn them to ash. Using Evan's abilty throwing it to Bobby, Samuel jumped in front of him using his ability to create a shield. As Rahne transformed to attack Gabriel, Gabriel used the shield bouncing her off of him. Rob powered up and jumped on Gabriel from behind. Gabriel channeled Bobby and turned to ice.
"Hurry up I can't hold him for long!" Samual created a cell around Gabriel and Rob slipped out.
"This can't hold me you know." Gabriel tapped on the shield.
"Stop!" Everyone turned to Ororo as she stood and walked forward. "Stop using your powers on him." Gabriel smiled at her words but the frown faded as Scott walked up beside him. Ororo pushed her powers away and the storm above them quieted. "That's it isn't it."
"Alex!" Gabriel's brother stepped out of the house.
"Gab I will not help you this time."
"Even if it means loosing control of your powers?"
"It is a risk I will gladly take." Alex turned and walked back inside the mansion. Gabriel turned back to Ororo and touched the shield again it shifted but held.
"This won't hold me much longer." Ororo smiled and turned to face the woods.
"I won't need it to." Ororo watched as Logan emerged from the woods on a bike. Ororo projected a calm state of mind as the bike got closer.
"Oh what will you do? Have him run me over." Ororo smiled.
"As tempting as that sounds no." Logan and Scarlet Witch descended from the bike.
"I have heard you need my talents Storm." Ororo nodded and stepped over to Logan.
"Yes but I need something else first." Ororo leaned closer so that she could speak in his ear. "Sorry." Logan's eyebrows pulled together.
"For what?" Ororo raised her hand and placed it on his chest.
"For this." Logan's body jolted as the electric shock traveled through his body. Ororo ignored the collective gasp around her, turning to Gabriel and watched as he got younger. "Now Scarlet." Just like Scarlet had earlier she wove her spell around Gabriel not changing his past but allowing him to see the truth in Ororo's words that his mind would not accept earlier. Everyone watched with baited breath as the Scarlet Witch continued her abilities.
'Logan,' Charles was in his mind again and Logan sat up shaking off the last effects of the shock. 'Where is Karma?' Logan glanced up at Ororo and now more then ever wanted the real Ororo back.
'Karma circled around back just in case Scarlet tried to flee.' Logan felt approval from Charles.
'Once Scarlet is done we will take care of Ororo.' Charles thoughts drifted over Logan’s mind.
'When I spoke with Scarlet she says all that matters to her is money. She doesn't care about Magneto or our cause she just wants to be paid she has a Niece in a private school. Or so she says.' Logan stood up and dusted himself off.
'I believe that the other telepaths are here.' Logan stepped forward and leaned over to whisper in Ororo's ear.
"Can I speak to you for a moment." Ororo glanced at him then back at Gabriel.
"Sorry I didn't have a chance to warn you." Ororo’s words made Logan grunt.
"Better that way. No its about something else." Ororo nodded and followed Logan off to the side.
"Do you trust me?" Ororo raised an eyebrow.
"Yes... Of course." Logan could smell worry coming off of her in waves.
"I would follow you to hell and back. Good or bad. But what your about to do..." Logan shook his head.
"How... How did you know?" Logan pointed to his nose.
"I can smell him in the air." Ororo stepped back. "Charles is gone it is time that the Mutant Nation rose up and be recognized." Logan sighed stepping forward and hugging her. It was at this moment that the Scarlet Witch had finished with Gabriel leaving him on the ground.
"That is not the Ororo I knew." Logan whispered in her ear. "The Ororo I love." Ororo froze in his arms and something flashed before her eyes but it escaped her.
"Oh how touching a scene." Magneto's voice wavered down from above them. Ororo stepped out of Logan's arms. "My dear it is time." Ororo nodded raising her arms to the sky her eyes clouded white.
"Ororo." Squaring her shoulders she looked at Logan as he called for her.
"Your either with me or against me." Logan closed his eyes, was he going to do it again. He loved Jean but it is not the same way he feels for his Ro, for Ororo.
"With you always." Logan stepped forward and grabbed her hand. Ororo smiled and rose them both up to stand next to Magneto.
"My students." Ororo's voice boomed like thunder and echoed for all of them to hear. "It is time for us to rise up and be accepted as Mutants. As a nation separate from the Humans who have judged us." As she spoke Hank, Alex, Rogue, Karma, and Victor exited the Mansion. "Time for us to bring the fight to their door." Hank shook his head. "Time for mutants everywhere to stop fighting." At this point Ororo turned to Magneto. "It is time to put our differences aside."
"Storm is right." Magneto's voice wasn't as loud as hers. As he spoke another man emerged from the school who went to stand next to Mystique. "We need to put whatever differences that we have aside to win this war."
"A war is coming." Magneto paused and looked down at the man who spoke. "Will you fight it by letting those around you believe in lies? Like Storm? Or Mystique or Scarlet Witch?" Magneto lowered himself so he could look at the man who spoke.
"Charles." The man smiled at him but it was a sad smile.
"Erik. Don't use her this way." Both sets of words were whispered.
"She is the hope for a better future is she not." Magneto's words sounded empty to Charles.
'No I am.' The words were spoken in everyone's mind including Magneto's. Magneto turned around to face Hope. 'Scarlet Witch return Ororo's mind to its proper form.'
"What?" Ororo dropped from the sky with Logan. "What are you talking about?" Ororo stepped forward.
"Will I get..." Scarlet Witch suddenly stopped then nodded and started to weave her ability around Ororo.
"Stop!" Ororo was dragged into a tunnel of light.
'Erik.' Magneto turned back to Hope. 'You hate humans. Hate the way they treated you.' Hope stepped forward and placed her hand in his. 'Let it go.' Magneto tried to pull away.
"Out of my head child." Hope reached out and grabbed Charles's hand.
'It is time you saw what your plan will bring.' Hope turned to Charles. 'For each of you to see what your plans will bring. First Erik.'

Huge towers rose into the sky under a shield so large that it shut out the stars. Below the streets were empty odd for an early night.
'Erik.' Suddenly the three were standing on a street, an empty dark street.
'What have you done?' Magneto spoke quickly and glanced around.
'This is where your path will lead the future. Watch.' Hope pointed to a child running through the street, a little girl bright blond hair and green eyes.
'Where is her family?' Charles stepped forward.
'Gone. Killed for being Human.' Charles turned back to Hope and then looked at Erik. Hope pointed again making them watch as three mutants came running around the corner following the child. One of them was holding a flame, another was blue and the last had large wings.
"Lady Stormwise said to kill the humans in this district unless they show signs of evolving." The mutant with the wings flew in front of the child. She screamed and fell backward crawling back into the mutant that was blue.
"She is a child. She might not evolve yet." The blue mutant leaned over and pulled the child's hair.
"We can take her to the camp." The one with the flame threw up his fireball and juggled it back and forth.
"Oh so they can test her. Why not test her right here?" The flame the guy was holding got even bigger.
"Burn! Snake! Bird!" The three turned around to face a woman with white hair young but not someone any of the watchers new. The scene changed and the three were closer to the woman.
"Yes Lady Stormwise!" The three of them bowed to her.
"Take the child to the camp you know the rules."
"Yes milady." The one with the wings spoke and picked up the child taking off.
"You two." They both turned back to the Lady.
"Head back to base."
"Yes Milady." They walked away and the Lady waited patiently.
"I know your there." From the shadows stepped a man, no older then any other day. "Hello Father." The word came out as a harsh whisper.
"Hello."
"What do you want?" The lady turned fully to him.
"To stop doing this. This is not what your mother would have wanted." The Lady laughed at Logan's words.
"My mother was at the front lines of this war and you were right next to her." Logan growled at the lady's words and she growled right back.
"Yes. I was, I was next to her the moment she gave birth to you and the moment she died. I loved your mother." Magneto stepped back. "But Erik did something to her that was not your mother." The lady laughed harshly.
"Erik always said you were a rabid animal but you are my father that is why you still live. Besides the war is going our way."
"You call slaughtering babes in their cribs war? Putting all the children in camps away from their families to see if they evolve? And when they do you think showering them with attention is going to change the fact that they hate you!?" The woman stepped back and placed her hands on her hips.
"We are the evolved species and until all the humans are gone this war will not be over." Logan looked away from her and his claws slowly extended.
"Then I will do what I never wanted to do." The woman looked back at him.
"You can't kill me father. You never could." Logan stepped forward impaling her on his claws. She looked up at him astonished.
"Your right I can't but I will give you over to the humans." Men in army suites surrounded them.
"No." The woman fell backwards onto the floor and one of the soldiers snapped on a collar.
"She won't heal as quickly as me." Logan turned to the man who was in charge.
"Why did you come to us?" Logan looked away.
"Because this is not what she would have wanted." The man's eyebrow rose and he shook his head.
"Who Ororo the woman who died killing the X-men." Logan looked away. "My biggest mistakes was thinking that she was okay." Logan looked up at the sky. "Ororo... I am sorry I couldn't save you..." Logan looked back at the General. "Magneto was the one who killed her."
"That's why he is our hero."The general said and Logan laughed.
"He hated all you humans the only reason he killed her was because she killed Mystique." The scene before them froze.
"Wait what happened to me?" Erik spoke softly as Charles stepped forward.
"Erik." Hope spoke and pulled both of their attention to her. "You loved her and you will again because her powers have returned. But she will join the X-men because of her son."
"How do you know all this?" Erik asked and Hope smiled.
"Because of my mother and father. Their souls are strong at the school and they are allowing me to show both of you what will happen." The scene before them unfroze.
"The only one that could have gotten through to Ororo after... He left." Logan walked into the darkness.
The scene changed to day where Logan stood in front of a gravestone.
"You have a lot of nerve to show up here." Logan didn't turn to face the person behind him.
"Ah wanted to see you." Rogue reached out her un-gloved hand resting on his bare arm that he yanked out of her reach.
"Don't touch me." Logan’s words were harsh and Rogue stepped back.
"I've had it under control for years." Logan grunted. "We could really use you now." Logan grunted again. "Why do you hate us?" Logan turned to Rogue and his eyes turned cold.
"Hate... I don't hate you." Logan sighed and looked at the graves. "Jean, Scott, Ororo, Hank, Peter, Karma, Aurora, Bobby, Kitty, Samual, Evan, Ray, Nathen and Roberto. They all are dead. Some killed by Ororo, some by Magneto." A growl sounded behind him.
"Can't mourn them forever pup." Sabertooth stood behind him, Logan returned the growl but there wasn't much behind it.
"Charles wouldn't have wanted this." Rogue spoke and stepped forward. Logan growled much more viciously.
"He is the reason that Ororo is dead!" Rogue stepped back but Logan did not elaborate.
"I have done what I can for your war. I turned my daughter over to the humans." Rogue gasped.
"You know what they will do to her!" Logan nodded and he turned to Sabertooth.
"Will you do me the honor of one last battle?" Sabertooth nodded and as he jumped at Logan the scene disappeared.
"What did I do?" Charles sighed. Hope looked at Erik.
"This is the less bleak path of your direction." Erik looked at Hope and shook his head.
"How can I believe you?" Hope grabbed his hand and pulled back his sleeve.
"The camps, you would have the same thing that was done to you done to innocent children whether you realize your actions or not you are responsible for this." Flashes of children in camps sped by, flashes of children watching their parents murdered and flashes of those same children dying or evolving and being just as cruel as those before.
"That is not what I want!"
"Even those with the best of intentions don't always know the right path." Hope turned to Charles.
"Now it is your turn." Hope held out her hand to Charles. Slowly and carefully he took her hand.
