Chapdizzle One
This is, essentially, a prequel to Survival and covers how Rogue and Kurt got together…and yes, we do mean that kind of together. As with survival it’s written in role-playing format alternating between Rogue’s and Kurt’s points of view with sections quoted from the previous character’s post in bold. If you want to see back to the very beginning there’s a fic that’s prior even to this, but as it’s entirely smut-free it doesn’t really qualify for affn. You can read it at http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3247153/1/ if you’re interested. As always, reviews, including critiques/constructive criticism are greatly appreciated.
Rogue
She
leaned against the wall, tapping her foot somewhat impatiently. She told him
that she'd be ready to get the hell out of there as soon as she was done with
her interview. Last thing they needed was Bobby discovering their little retaliatory
prank while they were still around to set it right. Well, while the two of them
were, at least. Kitty was still about, but there was no way that she could
carry all of that shit back upstairs by herself, and really there was no way
for him to make her.
She grabbed a set of keys and headed toward the jeep,
looking at Logan's
bike for a moment before hanging the keys back up and reaching for the spare
key that he thought no one knew about behind the key rack. Really.
First thing he should have done after she absorbed him was re-hide his keys and
his booze. She grabbed a pair of helmets and headed over to the bike, waiting.
How hard was it for him to be on time? It was his idea to
go to the club anyway. He was lucky that she was waiting around at all. Crowded
environments were really not her forte. Tucking the thin mesh scarf into itself
again so it wouldn't fly off once they got on the road, she sat one of the
helmets on the bike and tapped her foot some more. The guy could fucking teleport, why did it seem like he was taking
his good old time moseying on down? She flipped open her cell phone. If he
wasn't there in less than a minute, she'd call him and see what the hell the
holdup was.
Kurt
*bamf*
Kurt popped into existence sitting cross-legged on the
hood of the jeep he figured they'd be taking, absently waving away the already
dissipating cloud of purple-grey smoke from his teleport as he looked around
the garage...and stopped, head cocked and blinking bemusedly as he caught sight
of Rogue. Foot tapping, cell-phone open, and obviously
waiting impatiently for him by Logan's
bike. Logan's bike.
"Nothing like a little bit of danger to spice up an
evening, hm?" He hopped down off the jeep and
bounded over to grab the helmet she'd left on the seat of the bike. "Good
thing I have an almost non-existent sense of self-preservation," he added,
grinning at her and eyeing the bike appreciatively...which had absolutely
nothing to do with trying to avoid spending too much time eyeing her appreciatively,
of course.
"Ready for an exciting evening at Bayville's most hip
and happening hotspot?" he asked, bumping her companionably with his
shoulder as he slipped the helmet on. He knew she was only humoring him, of
course, but that didn't mean they couldn't have fun, just that he'd have to
work a bit harder at it.
"And if you're driving there," he added,
"then I call the trip back. If Logan's
gonna have my hide for a hearthrug over being on his
bike without permission then I at least deserve to get some of the fun of
driving it."
Rogue
She was almost done dialing when he popped in, sitting on
the Jeep. She snapped the phone closed and cleared her throat. "Nothing
like a little bit of danger to spice up an evening, hm?"
She frowned, feeling the need to remind him that he'd talked her into going to
a dance club. There was already plenty of danger in the evening. "Good
thing I have an almost non-existent sense of self-preservation."
Picking up the other helmet, she nodded. "Good. Fucker had me up at the
crack of dawn today. Least he can do is let me borrow his bike."
In retrospect, the whole early morning training thing
hadn't been all that bad. Sure, she would have liked to have slept. Sleeping
was good. But by the time the run came around, she was awake and able to get
the damned thing over with relatively quickly. Which was
always good. That didn't mean that she was looking forward to having to
do it again the next day. No, not in the least. Logan was still an (insert
expletive here) and there was very little that could change her mind about that
at the moment. Stealing his bike helped, though.
"Ready for an exciting evening
at Bayville's most hip and happening hotspot?" She rolled her eyes and pulled her helmet on. Yeah, she'd been
looking forward to it all day. As long as looking forward to it still meant
"trying to find a way out of it." She shrugged, deciding against
slapping him upside his little blue head for bumping her like that. She was
being sociable. No need to ruin it. At least not until they
got there. "And if you're driving there, then I call the trip
back. If Logan's
gonna have my hide for a hearthrug over being on his
bike without permission then I at least deserve to get some of the fun of
driving it."
She opened her mouth to object, taking a second to pull up
the mask on the helmet so that he could hear her loud and clear. "Who
found the key? Who was here on time? Who has actually driven this thing before?
With Logan
on it at the time? Besides, he'd have your hide for a hearthrug just because
it's soft. The bike has nothing to do with it." She swung her leg over the
motorcycle, gesturing for him to get on as well and frowning. She should have
really thought out the whole skirt thing a little bit better when she'd had the
grand plan to take Logan's
bike. Oh, well. She'd live. Pushing the mask back down, she turned her head a
bit toward Kurt, throwing out a muffled, "Ready?" before starting the
bike up.
Kurt
"Good. Fucker had me up at the crack of dawn
today. Least he can do is let me borrow his bike."
"Probably better than you'll get from Scott if he
ever finds out you've given Jean a virtual venereal disease," Kurt
answered, hitching up the baggy cargoes he was wearing over his uniform.
Without his tail threaded through the seat of the pants to hold them up his
decided lack of ass and hips always presented something of a problem, even with
a belt. But it was just plain safer keeping his tail stuff down a pant leg in
that kind of crowd, especially with the distraction of music and dancing. Not
to mention that he had to have someplace to stick his wallet; there sure wasn't
a helluva lot of room in that verdammt spandex
bodysuit for it.
But his fashion challenge du
jour was entirely beside the point! Tonight was about dragging Rogue out to Kathmandu and ensuring that she had fun, whether she wanted
to or not, and he just smiled endearingly - because of course how could he not
be endearing - when she rolled her eyes at him. She just didn't want to admit
that she was going to have a great time, obviously.
Unfortunately, his attempt to call dibs on driving Logan's bike back got
pretty much the response he'd expected, but it had been worth a try.
"Who found the key? she
asked, even going so far as to push up the helmet's mask so there could be no
doubt that he caught every word. "Who was here on time? Who has
actually driven this thing before? With Logan on it at the time? Besides, he'd
have your hide for a hearthrug just because it's soft. The bike has nothing to
do with it."
"But he doesn't have to flay me for that!" he
objected vehemently, choosing to ignore the rest of her comments for the
moment. "He's more than welcome to enjoy the velvety-softness without the
bloodshed," though that might just be the most disturbing image he'd managed
to inflict on himself in...at
least a week.
"As for the rest," he protested half-heartedly
as she climbed on, her skirt hitching up to display even more stocking-clad leg
than she usually did, "I wasn't late, you were
just early. Due to your overwhelming enthusiasm for our night
out, obviously." He wouldn't bother to touch the rest of it, he'd
just lose anyway. Being cute and fuzzy only got you so far, after all.
"Of course," he added, shifting his helmet and
wincing slightly - verdammt thing wasn't made to accommodate elegantly tapering
ears for some strange reason, "I could have been down a couple of minutes
sooner if I hadn't bothered to brush my hair...which I might as well not have,
given I'm gonna show up with helmet-head
anyway." As he climbed on behind her he didn't bother to add that he might
as well not have bothered given it was going to look the same once he turned on
his inducer even if he'd shaved it all off.
"Ready?" she asked back over her shoulder
pretty much as soon as he'd settled into place, but before he got a chance to
answer the bike was roaring to noisy life beneath them and he settled for
scooting up close and settling his hands at her hips, giving her a quick
squeeze in answer. Oops, and one more thing. Leaning in tighter and reaching
his right hand across her stomach he activated his image inducer, shuddering
slightly at the static-y surge along his fur. There, all fit for public
consumption and ready to get his party on now.
Rogue
"Probably better than you'll get from Scott if he
ever finds out you've given Jean a virtual venereal disease." She
snickered. Yeah, the early morning training sessions? Totally
worth it. And then a little argument about whether or not Kurt would be
driving back, and they were good to go. "But he doesn't have to flay me
for that!" Or not. She was tempted to offer
him a little cheese to go with his whine, but Kurt did a good job of digging
himself into a hole rather quickly. "He's more than welcome to enjoy
the velvety-softness without the bloodshed."
She raised an eyebrow. "I bet he
is."
She climbed onto the bike, briefly considering running
upstairs to change into pants, but deciding that it really didn't matter anyway
and the sooner they got the whole thing over with, the better. "As for
the rest, I wasn't late, you were just early. Due to your
overwhelming enthusiasm for our night out, obviously." And
another eye roll, not quite as visible from the way
she was positioned, but still there. And that's what really mattered. "Of
course, I could have been down a couple of minutes sooner if I hadn't bothered
to brush my hair...which I might as well not have, given I'm gonna show up with helmet-head anyway."
She held up her right hand and rubbed her thumb and
forefinger together. "Tiniest violin in the world.
Playing just for you." She pushed the visor down
and asked if he was ready, not really waiting for an answer before starting the
engine up. He responded by squeezing her hips and reaching across her stomach
to turn on the image inducer. Tilting her head just enough to make sure that he
was no longer blue, she nodded and headed out of the garage.
